But there is good news coming from the fire lines. Crews have nearly doubled containment from yesterday to 17 . We have Team Coverage on the glass fire. We begin with kpix 5s john ramos. Evacuations continue in napa county, and now the clearer air may actually cause problems for firefighters. This morning napa valley got some of its beauty back. The air cleared and fires on the west side were mere wisps of smoke compared to a week ago. Todays fire fight was in the rugged area east where an evacuation warnings became an order. The heavy smoke layer was gone and a steady stream of military style aerial attack helicopters took advantage of it to make drops on the fire line. But napa county fire chief says the smoke actually helped slow the fire during the past week. The smoke from not only this fire but fires burning north of us essentially shaded this fire out so it didnt get as warm, didnt get quite as dry. So that did help us to experience a more moderate fire behavior than we did the first couple days. Reporter so now with blue skies, the fire may actually become more active again. The visibilities increase so that means that the smoke layer isnt laying down on the fire. So any time we get a little bit more visibility,t allows more airflow. The fire does start to flow a little bit more actively. Reporter some who evacuated their home say it was the smoky air as much as the fire threat that drove them away. Curtis left angwin in a hear but his home is still standing. Its nice to see blue skies psychologically, but i think it does invite more fire. Do you sort of dread seeing the better air right now . Heres one up there. Weve also got a good plume coming off our creek fire. Not to be overlooked, theres the glass fire. Were not out of this but were getting a lot of help thanks to an onshore flow. The current air quality readings are all good with the exception of fairfield. Even in napa. You get further up into napa valley, all bets are off. This is a good sign for now.
