His treatment comes as more members of his inner circle also test positive for covid. Good morning to you. Reporter well, good morning. He said, going well, i think. Thank you to all. Love. President trump arrived at walter reed at 6 30 friday night, less than 24 hours after testing positive for covid19. Earlier, he walked out of the white house wearing a mask as he headed to marine one for the short flight. White House Press SecretaryKayleigh Mcenany said the move was done out of an abundance of caution and at the recommendation of his physician and medical experts. The president will be working from the president ial offices at walter reed for the next few days. Before departing the white house, the president taped this video message. Im going to walter reed hospital. I think im doing very well. But were going to make sure that things work out. Reporter in a statement, the president s physician, dr. Sean conley, said he was given an infusion of regenerons antibody cocktail, an experimental treatment which has shown promising results in some clinical trials. The president and first lady were diagnosed after one of the president s closest aides, hope hicks, tested positive on thursday for coronavirus. Were rounding the turn. Reporter hicks had been on the road with the president who traveled to five states during a busy week of Campaign Events, including tuesday nights debate. Mcnenty claimed white house officials authorized the president s travel thursday to a new jersey fundraiser where he met with dozens of donors. The white house operations made the asummit it was safe for the president and others. Reporter white house staff are scrambling to identify those who might have had contact with mr. Trump. I fully expect that as this virus continues to go on, other people in the white house will certainly have a positive test result. And weve got the mitigation plan in place. Reporter here at walter reed, the president is staying in an enormous medical suite with all the medical bells and whistles. Its been described to us as a mini hospital and a home ways, the home away from home. Thank you so much. Vice president mike pence tested negative, and sources say he is working from his home at the u. S. Naval observatory. His doctor says there is no need for him to quarantine. Well wishes for the president and first lady, melania trump, are lighting up social media across the political spectrum. First daughter ivanka trump who tested negative for the coronavirus tweets, you are a warrior and will beat this. I love you, dad. Former president ial opponent Hillary Clinton writing, quote, we wish the president and first lady a speedy recovery and hope for the safety of the white house staff, the secret service, and others putting their lives on the line. And during a Campaign Appearance with democratic Vice President ial candidate Kamala Harris on friday, former president barack obama turned his attention to the first family. We also want to extend our best wishes to the president of the United States, the first lady. Michelle and i are hopeful that they and others who have been affected by covid19 around the country are getting the care that they need, that they are going to be on the path to a speedy recovery. Mr. Obama went on to say, quote, were all americans, and were all human beings. The white house says all of President Trumps Campaign Events have either been canceled or moved on line as he undergoes treatment for the coronavirus. Its a dramatic shift for a campaign that has relied until now on inperson rallies and gatherings across the country. It also raises questions about the two remaining president ial debates and even how joe biden will proceed with just one month to go before election day. Ed okeefe has more from washington this morning. Good morning to you. Reporter elaine, good to see you. Good morning. As one senior aide to joe biden put it, what were going through right now is, quote, the definition of Uncharted Waters and how the the two president ial campaigns navigate 31 days until election day remains an open question. Joe biden boarded his Campaign Plane friday and flew off to michigan only after two covid19 tests came back negative. Good afternoon. Reporter speaking outside a union hall in grand rapids, he wore a mask the entire time. Sending my prayers for the health and safety of the first lady and the president of the United States after they tested positive for covid19. My wife jill and i pray that theyll make a quick and full recovery. In is not a matter of politics. Its a bracing reminder to all of us that we have to take this virus seriously. Its not going away automatically. Reporter biden said the president s illness is a reminder the nation needs to improve access to covid tests. Its not just the folks in the white house or who travel with me that deserve regular testing, its folks in the meat as tteported just rocessing cd 661,000 new jobs and an Unemployment Rate of 7. 9 . Im grateful for all those who were able to get their jobs back to work again. But theres fewer jobs than wed hoped for. Reporter joe biden, Kamala Harris, and her husband also tested negative friday and plan to stay on the trail. Bidens team goes to Great Lengths to protect the 77yearold candidate. He spent most of the summer addressing supporters from a basement tv studio. The limited inperson events he holds include just a handful of covidscreened staff, reporters, and invited guests. Can i take my mask off . I guess i can, all right. Ed on, friday the Biden Campaign took down all negative ads before fridays announcement, though, the former Vice President relentlessly criticized President Trumps handling of the coronavirus. Tuesday shed the president had been total he said the president had been totally irresponsible. How does joe biden move forward with messaging now . You know, that remains an unanswered question and one i think theyre going to have to assess day to day. The fact that they pulled thetive advertising yesterday afternoon the negative advertising yesterday afternoon before we got word that the president was headed to walter reed is a sign they understand that, you know, they have to be very careful now in the coming days about exactly how they proceed. Theyre spending tens of millions of dollars and about a dozen battleground states on television, across social media, pushing a message that raises doubts about the president s leadership, not only of the pandemic but of the economic recovery that is under way. Thats been the central focus of the Biden Campaign. So do you keep that up over the next 31 days, or do you to find a way to shift . Thats what they havent sorted out yet. Now the Trump Campaign, not only does President Trump have covid, but his Campaign Manager has tested positive, as well. What does that Campaign Look Like now if we have any idea about what it does over the next 30 or 31 days . The fact that theyve canceled all inperson events, that theyre going to hold virtual events, something they have not done much of, and that not only does the president , his Campaign Manager have covid19, so does the chairwoman of the Republican National committee. So essentially the top three political figures in this campaign, especially the candidate himself, sidelined for by this at least for the next few days if not the next few weeks. It, again, is an example of how this is completely unprecedented. One thing we know, at least through last night, the advertising, the fundraising appeals continued. The Trump Campaign was still sending out messages asking for money and, you know, attacking joe biden just at the time the Biden Campaign said they were pulling back that kind of advertising. I have a feeling through the weekend well get a better sense of how the two continue to operate. The other big question, do they debate in midoctober in miami . Can they make that late october debate in nashville . As of this morning, two members of the Judiciary Committee have tested positive for the coronavirus. What effect does that have on the Supreme Court confirmation hearings . Guys, nobody has answers this moning because weve never been here. Its mike lee of utah, republican, tom tillis of North Carolina last night, announced that he has it, as well. Tillis locked in one of the most expensive reelection campaigns right now down in the tar heel state. They are two members of a committee that is set to meet a week about a week, ten days from now, to consider the Amy Coney Barrett nomination. Notably both of them said that they would try to be back within ten days, which is about the time left before that Committee Hearing begins. Of course, doctors say this thing doesnt end in ten days. It can go on for several weeks. So again, another thing just completely up in the air. Uncharted waters all around, ed. Thanks for keeping us up to date. Well, the u. S. Is not making much progress in lowering the coronavirus numbers. This week, 25 states reported more cases than the previous week. On friday more than 54,000 new cases were reported. Thats the most in a single day since midaugust. There are now more than 7. 3 million known infections in the u. S. The death toll has climbed to more than 208,000. Here to discuss the president and more is cbs news contributor dr. David agus. Good morning, doc. How are you . Im good. Thank you. Yeah. Reports are that President Trump is experiencing mild symptoms, lowgrade fever, and a cough. What will his treatment at walter reed look like . When he started and tested positive and started to have mild symptoms, the first thing they did was give an experimental drug, a cocktail. Two mono cronal antibodies, they were cloned and made into a drug and administered so he could fight the virus. They would block the virus from getting in the cell. Then yesterday evening he started a daily course of remdesivir, another intravenous antiviral medicine, as well as what we call supportive care, make sure he has enough flurkid make sure the numbers are correct in the hospital. The president , 74 years old. He is technically obese. How does that factor into his treatment and his prognosis . Both of those are certainly risk factors. His biggest risk factor is being male. Being male is the biggest risk factor of all of them. They put him at higher risk of complications which why theyre doing aggressive therapy. Antiviral and the monoclonal antibodies to block the virus. Former Vice President joe biden was, what, ten feet away from the president , also Chris Wallace closer to him than the audience members. How concerned should people be about or doctors we should say about joe biden and his risk to coronavirus . You know, theres always risk. You can never bring risk to zero, especially when someone has the virus. What we do know is that on tuesday they were all the day of the debate they were all tested which a probe went to their nose, and there was no virus there by a very sensitive test. That doesnt mean they didnt have the virus, but it probably means they werent infectious. Im not as worried about joe biden. Obviously the problem with this virus is it doesnt discriminate. If you get enough particles, you will get sick no matter who you are. A lot of people are questioning this contact traysing. The president is around tracing. The president is around a lot of people, has been in the past. And exposure certainly is where everyone is looking right now. How important is it going to be to follow that that line of Contact Tracing . Critical. Weve seen a number of cases now within staff and the white house and outside the white house, and you know, theyre actually going back to video. You say who did the president interact with at close distance for a long period of time without a mask, those people need to be put into quarantine as part of the Contact Tracing program, and tested on a regular basis. Otherwise, they can go out and potentially be asymptomatic and continue to spread the virus. If you want to stop it cold, you have to contact trace, and you have to act on that data. All right. Dr. David agus, thank you. Jeff . Thank you. Not since when president reagan was shot in an assassination attempt nearly 40 years ago has there been this level of concern over a president s health. The white house has not been forthcoming about President Trumps condition. Well turn to cbs news senior political analyst john dickerson, he is also the author of the hardest job in the world the american presidency. Good morning. So good to see you. Does the white house believe the lack of transparency here is helping them . Good morning, jeff. Well, its not clear exactly what the white house believes. They are being mildly transparent. So they are letting information out. And in this age where everyone president is this constant communication with everybody through twitter, we actually know more than in a lot of previous president ial instances where president s really hid their medical conditions. You think of eisenhowers heart attack, they lied to the press about that. Kennedy was sick and lied about it both as a candidate and the president. This isnt full transparency on the president s condition, but we do know a fair amount. Were being kept up to date, although theres issues with transparency in this white house that are broader than just the specifics of this case. John, what did you think of the video that was sent out of him immediately before he left the white house and went to walter reed . Well, it was striking in the sense, again, you know, this is a president who is in constant communication through his twitter account. And when he said i think im doing very well, that tiny little hedge, perceptsible only with a microscope, but a tiny hedge from the president , i think im all right, is striking for somebody who is reelectle relentlessly posite in cases often and perhaps where its not warranted. It was a sign of how this is different from Everything Else weve experienced in this presidency. He said i think in a tweet, as well. Hedging in a couple different ways. John, when you look at the timeline of events right now from last saturday in the rose garden through the debates to then what happened at Campaign Events on thursday, what stands out to you the most . What stands out is as that evidence comes in that it might be an event at the white house, its an extraordinary thing that this many months into a pandemic there was a possibility that there was a spreader event at the white house, the most potected building on the in the United States arguably. And it raises its not only just extraordinary as a matter of history, but obviously it connects with the central critique of the president which is that he has not taken the pandemic as seriously as a national matter. And now here the pandemic comes home where it wasnt taken seriously enough at the white house. Weve seen plenty of events like this, the president has constantly downplayed the need for masks. And now were seeing the result that all of his Public Health officials have warned people across the country that if you dont remain vigilant, this is the kind of thing that can happen. John, the white house says that the president is fully in control as hes treated in the hospital. Talk about when or if the 25th amendment might be invoked. It certainly has been before. Theres certainly plenty of protocols to take care of allowing the president to keep doing his job, unlike Ronald Reagan in 1981, a fastmoving, surprise event. He was a very young president at the time. This is slow slow rolling, a lot of procedures in place. The 25th amendment to kick in, it would probably, if we even get to that, and were a long way away, it would probably occur in the way that it has with george w. Bush and even it was sort of used with Ronald Reagan, although he did kind of a fancy thing to get around it. And that was would essentially be with the president s consent, hand over control to mike pence for a period of time, and then it would come back to him. Its been a while. Good to see you. Thank you so much for your time. Good to see you, jeff. 22 minutes after the hour. Heres a look at the weather for your weekend. The white house describes the move as being taken out of an abundance of caution. Last night mr. Trump tweeted, quote, going well, i think. Hes expected to be hospitalized for a matter of days. There is conflicting testimony about the moments before Breonna Taylors Police Shooting death. On friday the Kentucky Attorney general released about 15 hours of grand jury recordings. The rare release of the proceedings comes after public outcry that police where police, rather, were not directly charged with killing taylor and when one member of the grand jury asked that the audio be released. There is often talk of the wage gap between men and women, but not about how it compounds over a lifetime. Because women make less, take more time out of their careers to care for their children, and invest less than men. Even women who successfully save for retirement can find themselves with a Million Dollars less in assets than their male counterparts. Thats something one wall street titan is on a mission to fix. The downturn has been historically the steepest and fastest that weve seen. Reporter Sallie Krawcheck has some experience with economic downturns. As the most powerful woman on wall street, she had a frontrow seat to the great recession. How does the recession of 2008 differ from today . This downturn happened so incredibly rapidly. We went from bull market to bear market in record, literally record time. The other difference with there downturn, its a shecession. It is impacting women, unfortunately, more than men. The last one, 07, 08, was more evenly distributed. Reporter because women hold a large share of jobs in leisure, hospitality, and retail. Sectors that were hit hard by shutdowns. And making covid19s impact on women worse are lost earnings due to the gender wage gap. More than 10,000 per year. Women make 82 cents to a mans dollar. Its slowly getting better. To be frank, its decades away from closing for white women. 100plus years for black women, and 200plus years for latinx women. When youre ready to say that is awful and im so upset about that, well, the gender wealth gap, wealth is how much money we keep, and that gender wealth gap is 32 cents for a mans dollars and just a singledigit number of pens for black women, moving in the wrong direction. Reporter she says closing that wealth gap will take more than bigger paychecks. There have been two big drivers of wealth in our country. One of which has been real estate which people of color have been redlined out of. The other which has been investing. And women and people of color have been kept out from that. Reporter per solution the First Investment platform designed for women by women. Reporter created in 2014, the investment platforms mission is to get more money in the hands of women. The investment gap, dont know that one . Its that thing where women arent getting their fair share because the investment industry and almost all its tools were built for men by men. We have an investing algorithm, as other Digital First investing platforms do. Ours is the only one that takes into account youre a woman. You might say why does that matter . Ill tell you why because we live longer, because we earn less, because our salaries peak sooner. Reporter we keep less. Therefore we keep less. Reporter helping other women build wealth, an idea that took root early in her career. Certainly the early 80s, working on wall street sounds like it was hell. It was when i was there, when i was junior, you know, they were trying to run me out. It wasnt even hidden. There would be xerox copies of male genitalia left on my desk. Really . As a means of humiliating me, embarrassing me, and trying to force me out. Reporter still, see that cli she climbed becoming the cfo of citigroup and head of the Wealth Management division. You know, with that lack of diversity, does anyone really think the financial crisis of 07 and 08 would have been worse if there had been more women and more people of color . Nobody does. [ chants ] reporter the mission became more pertinent when the me too movement gained momentum. Recognizing the societal gender imbalances, one of the drivers is money. Weve received negative messages around money over our whole lives, that were not good at math, were not good investing. Those messages have been harmful, even before the pandemic. Reporter still, conversations about money are uncomfortable for many women, although they are more likely than men to be living paycheck to paycheck. 61 of women in a recent survey said they would rather talk about their own death than about money. Yeah, this is the shame that we as a society have imposed on women about money. If we put that shame on them so that theyre not talking about it, then how do you know what raise to ask for . Reporter a new membership answers those questions by giving access to career and Financial Advisers and rounds up extra change from charges into a savings account. Money membership is even impactful for women who dont have a lot of it . Yeah. We worked to keep the price very approachable. A dollar a month at the entry level. This is the price of a portion of a latte a month in order to get the learning, the education, the ability to save more quickly, and eventually to invest early on. Reporter small steps she hopes will help women gain more money and more power. Ill tell you while money is womens numberone source of stress, the taking of action, right, the getting that Credit Card Debt paid off, the investing, right, the having a plan for how you pay off the student loan debt, the building of savings is the numberone driver of confidence in her future. Reporter like the men she writes about, lynn cheney has led a life under a glaring spotlight. Second lady of the United States, former chair of the National Endowment for the humanities, and prolific author. From contemporary novels to Childrens Books. And now history. Its amazing if you think about it. In this little part of the world, 60mile circle east of the blue ridge mountains, these four amazing leaders came. Reporter the virginia dynasty is about four of the first five men who served as president and how for the first 36 years of the republic, accepting john adams single term, all the men elected were basically neighbors. George washington, thomas jefferson, james madison, and james monroe. People are very familiar with George Washington and thomas jefferson. Much less so with monroe and madison. Why is that . Madison has been consistently undervalued. Reporter cheneys book gives equal attention to four figures who received unequal attention in history books. She calls madison, the fourth president , the intellectual force been the constitution and the bill of rights. He was followed by another man also unfamiliar to many today. What should people know about james monroe that they dont know . He was a pretty good president. He had a very stable cabinet. He had a reputation, probably it was somewhat justified, as not being quite as clever as his predecessors. But he learned along the way which was a good thing. Reporter monroe, madison, and jefferson also competed mightily for the attention and respect of the first member of the dynasty. Our first leader and a bit of a loner. Washington was austere. He tried to make friends but had a very hard time doing it. People talk about, you know, the loneliness at the top, the loneliness of leadership. And i think that was part of what made washington the way that he was. He was somewhat isolated by the role hed played in the revolution. Reporter why did so many men who lived so close together come to lead the nation for more than 30 years . In part, their elite educations. In part because they all benefited heavily from a southern Economic System that relied on enslaved labor. We asked chainy about that. You dont deal with slave holding much in this book, why . Thats not the focus of the book, though i certainly do deal with it. I think in fact it was an important purpose of the book to point out on this these men, though they were slaveholders, accomplished something quite amazing. They came forth with the ideas and the ideals that became the most powerful weapon for doing away with slavery. Reporter cheney doesnt talk a lot about the four mens childhoods. Her own children have grown up in a political machine. Ones become parts of it. Wyoming congresswoman liz cheney currently has the thirdhighest position in house gop leadership and made headlines this summer. Your daughter has been critical of the president over his coronavirus response. Shes taken a great deal of heat from some of her republicn colleagues about that. Have you talked about that . Well, i think if i were to talk about lizs decisions, i mean, how would you feel if your mother were advising you on how you could best appear on television . Probably wouldnt like it much. Im sure liz wouldnt like it much. Moreover, she knows a lot more about it than i do. Reporter but youve been on the battlefield plenty of times, and she is now. That is correct, but shes the active member of the family. Reporter cheney says the focus of her activity these days will remain on writing. At 79, she rarely misses a day. What is next for you . You know, im not sure. I wrote Childrens Books for a time. I did that when dick was Vice President. I thought it was a good way to stay out of trouble. So maybe another Childrens Book is in the future. If my mother were advising me how to look on television, she would tell me before doing interviews with the former second lady to comb your hair. And look somewhat presentable. So my apologies for that. Our thanks to lynn cheney for sitting down with us. You were blushing a bit. Just a bit. That was pearl jam bassist jeff ament in a clip from cream, a documentary about the upstart 1970s rock magazine with a big chip on its shoulder. Cream was a gritty rival to the more polished Rolling Stone. But the small bed of journalists wrote and lived like the very rock stars they covered. As Anthony Mason explores. Reporter in the late 60s, a raucous brand of rock and roll was thriving in the motor city. Artists like mc 5, iggy pop, and alice cooper. You couldnt be soft rock in 68. If you were seals and croft, they would kill you. Reporter in the midst of the gritty music scene was born a magazine as irreverent as rock itself. Cream magazine, if you want a free copy clear out the offices. Dont cost you many. Send a letter to where, 3729 in detroit michigan, the motor city. Reporter cream started above a record store on a detroit street corner. How would you describe the culture at the magazine . Chaos. Reporter what did it mean for a band to be in cream . For one thing, that was the magazine. Reporter alice coopers debut record, pretties for you, caught the ear of creams legendary critic lester bangs. He reviewed our first album as a tragic waste of plastic. Which i always i always loved that review. I always thought that was such a great review. The tragic waste of plastic. Reporter you werent offended . No. It wasnt worth the vinyl that it was pressed on, right . We really didnt put rock stars on pedestals which Rolling Stone tended to do. They were much more irreverental to artist. Reporter jan was 19 when she joined cream in 1970. I just kne i that was where was supposed to work. Reporter had you done much writing before you started there . Oh, no. I wrote poetry in my bedroom at night. Reporter her first cover story was on Smokey Robinson who just split off from the miracles. In 1966, it was smokey, me, and unrequited love. What a threesome. You were my dear abbey, my ann landers, my prime confessor, you had more impact on a teenage dilemma than clearasil. Reporter the mascot, boy howdy, was drawn by cartoonist r. Crumm. But its spirit came from the creative tension between lester banks and editor dave marsh. You can strike a balance between approaching music as politics, approaching music without being able to separate it from politics you cant the thing is if you separate it, whats the point . Reporter they literally came to blows at one point. Yes, they did. It was a marvel to watch. It was the Keith Richards and mick jagger songwriting. Thats how we made a magazine out of the fires of ire. Reporter as film director Cameron Crowe who wrote for cream remembers in the documentary what they got to argue about is how to love the thing they loved. Out of that came like desperate reckless, raw, unforgettable, coverage of this thing that they were both in love with. Tyou cannot make friends wit the rack stars reporter in the film almost famous, bangs played by phillip s see mower halfon offers advice these people are not your friends. They want you to write stories about the genius of rock stars. And they will ruin rock and roll and strangle everything we love about it. Lester and i before we would go out to do a story, we would look at each other, and we would really like work each other up remember, rock stars are not reporter but she briefly basically a rock star when she donned kiss makeup for a story in 1975. What the crazy part was that kiss agreed. Reporter how did it feel to be on stage behind all that makeup . It felt amazing. You really did feel bigger than life. I think it was the story that made me a better writer because i saw what a musician feels. Reporter cream flourished through the 70s, but when publisher barry kramer died of an overdose in 1981,faltered. By the end, cream was done. Whatever the thing that was cream had in its heyday, could never be copied. Reporter when you think of that period, how do you think of it . It was some of the most fun ive had in my life. I say to myself like Close Encounters of the third kind where a bunch of people started making mountains out of their mashed potatoes, and we experienced something similar. We all came together. And i really treasure that sense of being one with all the people i was there with. Wow i wow. Had such an impact. Rock stars are not our friends. Makes me almost want to aatch almost famous and the director i think of the song camel camelot. For one brief moment that was cream. Great cast of characters. Oh, yeah. Lebron james leads the way for the Los Angeles Lakers in game two of the nba finals last night. He finished with 33 points, and the lakers beat miami 124114 to take a 20 series lead. At first glance it looks and sounds like a typical game, but in this unusul year, the nba, the nfl, and Major League Baseball all currently playing without their usual crowds are using some form of artificial fan noise. Youve heard it for the nba, the sound scape is created by a team of four sitting inside a control room. We wondered exactl how theyre doing it and sent our own Dana Jacobson to get some answers. Lakers on the move. Five straigh denver misses. Reporter highstakes drama. Series on the line and reporter buzzer beaters. It goes heres davis for reporter the crowd goes wild. [ cheers ] Anthony Davis has won it for the lakers reporter or does it . From the sound of it, you might forget that this years nba playoffs are unfolding in a fanfree arena. Thanks in large part to mark dittmar and firehoue productions. Were taking human voices and trying to make it sound like an actual crowd in an 18,000seat arena. Reporter and unique human voices in that theyre reacting to everything thats going on. Correct. [ boos ] reporter it was almost impossible to imagine when the nba suspended its season in march. The leagues biggest star, lebron james, said it would never happen. We play games without the fans . No. Impossible. I aint playing. Reporter mark dittmar heard lebron loud and clear. I was like, thats a giant bummer. You know, again, this is reporter understatement. I woke up the next morning and this this crazy idea of what if he didnt know there werent fans. Reporter carlton myers, the Vice President of live production and entertainment for the nba, was wondering the same thing. We wanted to create the environment that the players are used to. Knowing that if the players feel comfortable, theyll play better. Reporter what was your initial response to his idea of how they could help bring that regular arena sound into an independent arena . My response was, lets do it. You know, lets try it. Figure out a way to bring this experience home for the fans and for the players. The start of the idea was putting a multichannel sound system like actually we have sitting around us right now, around the court. Reporter it feeds into ten large clusters of speakers all facing the court. How do you create this . Because you didnt get 18,000 people in an arena and start recreating the sound. A lot of this is sound effects libraries. Reporter they spent weeks building an Audio Library with layers of sounds. [ chants ] and a system to deliver them. Theyre launchpads with buttons in eachve vertical row a set of information. Murmur might be one row one through eight. The game director is talking to them some. Narrating the story. But they are somewhere between playing a video game, playing a Musical Instrument reporter audio sweetener nathan allers lets hear the bass murmur reporter join us from the nba bubble in orlando to show how it works. You have eight additional audience levels, the basic audience pregame kind of level, that being level one, level eight being basically everybody in an arena on their feet cheering, clapping. [ cheers ] we can really kind of scale up the sound and scale it back down. Reporter they first demod the technology for myers at a gym near firehouse productions in new yorks hudson valley. Had the speakers set up and everything. As they started layering the sounds, you just got the feeling that you were in a building with 17,000 people. And at that moment i knew that it would work. Reporter in orlando, each game was an opportunity to improve. So the more practice those guys have in doing games, the better they get at it. Theres a lot of nuance to basketball, so you have to learn certain situations. And theyve really learned how to sweeten those situations to sound extremely natural. We layer on like a big reaction or multiple reactions based on what may happen. [ cheers ] lets go, you know, build it up, and lets go really big. [ cheers ] thats relatively close to the level we were at when doncic hit the three point in overtime the other night. Pulls up threepointer bang bang its good if you just listen to the crowd, it certainly sounds fake. You can hear that it is synthetic, and you get the basketball bouncing up and down, you get the players yelling at each other and all that. Turnover, here comes now its so far down in your brain that it sounds completely realistic. Hammers it home reporter it even surprised Toronto Raptors coach nick nurse. Doesnt feel that much different. I know thats kind of hard to believe, but it really doesnt. The refs ask early on if we were going to have like ref you suck and things like that. One team came forward and said, our fans boo, we want booing. Reporter and the nba took those specialty sounds a few steps further. Adding ones associated with each teams home arena like in miami. [ cheers ] the p. A. Announcer when theres two minutes left in the quarter, he says two minutes, dos minutos. We got him to record that for us and when it happens, when theres two minutes left, in any quarter, we play it. Say hi to all the virtual fans reporter thats right. They even added fans. What we wanted to do was figure out a way to still give fans the opportunity to access the game. Theyve been excited to be involved. I not the players get a little bit of energy from looking up in the stands not in the stands, but on the screens and seeing fans there live. Runs to the corner it just shows you what this business can do when, you know, posed with a problem like this. Down the lane reporter veteran playbyplay announcer Kevin Harland called the first two rounds of the nba playoffs for tnt. The crowd is kind of like the broadcasters and the broadcasts symphony. Its like the orchestra that fills in the back of a call. Lebron james on first blush, just turning it on, you think, my gosh, there is a crowd. It feels normal. Yeah. You have those moments where you pinch yourself like can you beieve we created this . Yeah. It happens all the time. Family members call me up and say, you know, i turned on the game. It sounded great. It looked great. You know, theres fans in the stands. Im just like, yeah, i guess we did do it. Did they ever. I love that quote our fans boo. I mean, you know . Rig right. Ive been impressed across all leagues, nba, nfl, nhl. Impressive. There is a musicality to sporting events, right . A crescendo when theres a play happening, when the announcer talks about, you know, making a basket or in football, a touchdown. You need that crowd noise. Great piece. Sound engineers. Yes. Paramedics are used to traveling by ambulance and even by helicopter to deliver emergency care. Soon they could be taking to the skies over england in jetpacks. Rylee carlson reports. Reporter this could be the future of remote medicine. A paramedic with a jetpack reaching places helicopters cant, helping critically ill patients much quicker. Englands Great North Air Ambulance Service is hoping to launch the first jet suit paramedic. Nobody in the world would expect that as an air ambulance we could get to someone in a jet suit in a matter of minutes and get some pain relief or ultimately in the worst case, save their life. Reporter on a test flight in northwest england, the jet pack navigated rocky hillsides in just 90 seconds. A journey Officials Say would take 25 minutes on foot. The suit is covered in five mini jet engines, can reach 32 miles per hour, and flies for about five minutes. Were not talking about big distances, but were talking about steep gradients, thats the difference. Reporter the designer, gravity industries, is in talks with paramedics to make modifications to the suit. Theyre hoping to reach their first patients by jetpack next summer. Rylee carlson, cbs news, london. Cbs this Morning Saturday will be right back. We begin this half hour with a relic of history revived by the pandemic. If you walk through some italian cities, youll see a curious design feature windows that can discreetly open to serve food and drink to people on the street. Now in the Renaissance Capital of florence, those wine windows are back in service. Chris livesay shows us why. Reporter good morning from florence. A city thats no stranger when it comes to pandemics. Throughout the centuries, it survived successive waves of the plague. And now that experience is coming in handy, especially when it comes to wine. In a city as jawdroppingly beautiful as florence, youd be forgiven for overlooking this or this. More than 150 socalled wine windows. Tiny hatches dating back to the renaissance. Now in the covid age, theyre having their own rebirth. I think its its great. And its a way to social distance i suppose. Reporter they were likely invented as a way for noble families to discreetly sell wholesale wine in small portions, says this historian. Theyre all over the place, arent they . The tiny openings prevented merchants from selling in bulk. As she discovered, they acquired another use during the black death. Merchants specifically used them to socially distance from customers on the outside. According to this medical book from the 1600s. So they never came in contact with each other. Thats what the wine window did. It created that distance between the buyer and the seller. An antiplague safety measure forgotten over the centuries. That is until florences most recent plague covid19. History repeated itself. Not stopping at wine, this was one of the first to reopen its bucetta. You let them know youre here, you tell them what you want [ speaking Foreign Language ] you pay, and out comes your ice cream. Irresistible to florentines fresh out of lockdown. So the idea worked . Yes, yes. Once we really have really long cue. Reporter bars and restaurants caught on. Now reopening wine windows long sealed shut like this. Why do you want to open it . [ speaking Foreign Language ] its fashionable . Once the worsthit country in the world, italy now ranks among the healthiest in terms of new coronavirus infections. Businesses can now open their doors, but if this modernday plague locks them down again, some can open their windows. Now the plague of 1630 lasted three years. History shows that pandemics have always been tough to beat. History also shows that social distancing is effective. For cbs this Morning Saturday, chris livesay, florence.
