The glass fire is raging dangerously close this morning and now shifting winds raising the threat of new fires and bringing suffocating smoke back to the bay area. Fire crews are racing against the clock by air and ground trying to knock out the flames before the wind picks up. Yesterday afternoon air tankers made drop after drop as the fire raced up the hillside off highway 29. This is aerial video by cal fire looking on the palasades Mountain Range below. It shows the fire coming close to homes in the mountains. A lot of people live around here. Its scary. How many times . A new fire, you are evacuating. Its scary. This is not the only concern. A big orange glow above summit lake road is sounding the alarm and hot spots can be found on the western hillside of napa valley. Those in surrounding areas remain evacuated until fire danger passes. Crews are everywhere waiting to see how the wind will push this fire. Lets get a check on the wind with mary. This is a big concern, watching the winds take a turn out of the north and northwest. That does mean critical fire weather conditions, a very high fire danger with a red flag warning that will be in effect from 1 00 p. M. Today until 6 00 p. M. Friday, and that does include the glass fire. North bay mountain elevations above 1,000 feet under the red flag warning. The reason is the gusty winds. We will watching those pick up with lower humidity values. The heat will be on for sure. There are the areas highlighted in red under the red flag warning. We are also dealing with the heat, a heat advisory for most of the bay area from 11 00 am today until 8 00 p. M. Today due to dangerously hot temperatures, 15 to 25 degrees above average. A spare the air alert with smoky skies and unhealthy air quality. I will let you know what you can expect as we head through the week and when we will see relief from the heat and also these extreme fire conditions coming up in just a few minutes. Good morning. Highway 12 closures are still there as well between Mountain Hawk drive and trinity road. Highway 12 at arnold drive. Those closures remain. These are just the major larger roads through there. There are smaller surface streets in neighborhood areas shut down in and around those areas. Other than that your morning drive is off to a good start at the golden gate bridge. That is why this is such a big concern for us. Also, looking at futurecast wind gusts, you see winds as we look at the north bay and higher elevations. Here is what you can expect as we look to the glass fire this afternoon. Firefighters will be up against daytime highs in mid 90s to triple digits, humidity values down to 10 to 20 and with northwesterly winds 10 to 20 sustained and gusts up to 30 Miles Per Hour. So we are looking with that eastern zone, especially that southeastern zone of the glass fire, those are locations to really watch as the fire could be moving in a new direction with those winds taking that turn.
