Calistoga is very quiet right now. The entire city has been evacuated. I am at the motor lodge along lincoln avenue and behind me, we have watched glowing fires disappear, looking east near the silverado trail. Hopefully, that is some good news. We are waiting for the latest from cal fire once the sun comes up. However the weather conditions are pretty good for firefighting. It is a lot cooler compared to yesterday. Not a lot of wind to speak of but the official count is 113 structures destroyed and that number could go up as firefighters explore the areas that have already burned. By the afternoon, the entire city population of calistoga, 5300, was being evacuated. The fire had crested the hill where they are. People had to evacuate immediately. We got back to the house a couple weeks ago and we were evacuated for 17 days and there we go again. It is dad. Those evacuation orders are in effect in napa and sonoma encompassing about 70,000 people. No idea when they will be able to return home and for many of them, no idea what they are going to be returning to we will be covering it all. In calistoga, back to you. It is so devastating, seeing all those homes earn and all the residents do not know what they are going home to when they are allowed back in and you were on this alvarado yesterday and you did touch on the weather. Tell me the difference in conditions that you are feeling this morning. It is a lot cooler this morning, which is very good news for firefighters and there was more fog. I came in to look at the road closures from the western side and up north of this area and it was cooler. You could see some moisture in the air and not a lot of winds to speak of. We could have some good news from cal fire. We have had this 0 containment number since this fire broke out early sunday morning and hopefully they were able to come up with some containment lines overnight. That is horrible. We can see ash falling down in our shot and stay safe. There are large chunks actually. Im going to put my mask back on. Sounds good, we will check back with you in just a bit we have seen some impressive displays of winds in the fire zone that has been sending embers flying for miles and it is how the fire got so big, so fast. Lets go to meteorologist mary lee in the Weather Center and will the winds died down . They seem, where she is. We have better conditions improving for today as we are looking at lighter winds and also seeing onshore flow and with that high relative humidity values, i have been watching it rise this morning, it is 17 to 34 and temperatures are in the 60s, so definitely cooler compared to yesterday morning and winds are light. So hopefully, that is helping firefighting efforts. Northeasterly winds are still there but they will take a turn out of the southwest through the day. More of that onshore wind component is coming. The problem is that could test containment lines and pushed the fire in new directions. Really, we are watching the conditions right now as we look to the glass fire. Lets talk about those hazy and smoky skies. The spare the air alert is extended through today and all the way through friday due to all of the smoke, so unhealthy to very unhealthy air for parts of the north bay especially closer to the glass fire and unhealthy air for sensitive groups for the rest of the bay area. Because of that marine influence, temperatures will be cooler and you will notice that along the coast and bay although still hot in mind for today. 75 for our high in San Francisco, 86 in oakland, 83 in san jose and will should heed for concord. We will talk about the rest of the week and show you the smoke forecast coming up in just a few minutes. Lets check in for the latest on road closures due to the fire with gianna. First, there, we are learning police have made an arrest in the evacuation zone in Sonoma County. We are not tolerating anybody leaving an evacuation zone that does not belong there. Rest assured, we have a lot of deputies patrolling. They are patrolling or neighborhoods. Cal fire says the 17year old was hopping fences near a high school on montecito boulevard and officers found the teenager in the backyard of a home and placed him under arrest. Roads are closed because of evacuations and you do not want to get caught up. Here is gianna with what you need to know as you head out. You do not. You want to avoid those areas if you can. There are closures in napa county and you have closures in the Sonoma County area due to the wildfires. Avoid that area if you can. I have the latest information in regards to those closures. The side of silverado trail, it is near. It lane and south to meadowood lane and in between. Pickett road, those are all closed in around the napa county area and the calistoga area. Try to avoid that area if you can. Parts of 29 are open between deer park and pine street. Try to leave them open for fire crews and emergency crews and people trying to leave the area. Part of highway 12 around calistoga and trinity road are also impacted. We will look at it in my next report. The main buildings around the schools in the Deer Park Community have burned to the ground. Several wine country districts are canceling classes and even Virtual Learning because of all the evacuations. Not just the bay area dealing with devastating wildfires. Another Massive Wildfire is tearing through homes in shasta county. Three people have died in those flames. The zogg fire is burning out of control, more than 31,000 acres of scorched. There is 0 containment as crews battled dry and gusty winds. Firefighters are also battling conditions in butte county and the north complex fire came roaring back to life and is threatening several times that brody devastated in 28 teams including paradise. Crews are trying to stop the flames before they jump highway 70. Still coming up, sales are skyrocketing, how the pandemic actually helped one Company Triple is business. We have a spare the air alert that remains in effect today. That is im voting yes on prop 19 to help californias most vulnerable. Over 24,000 homes were destroyed by wildfires in less than two years. Too many of those victims are also hit with a sudden tax hike after their forced to move. Its wrong. Prop 19 limits taxes on wildfire victims and limits taxes on seniors and severely disabled homeowners. Join firefighters and Emergency Responders in voting yes on 19. O we are taking a live out to calistoga and take a look at this car and all of that ash falling from the glass fire. This a large chunk of ash is here, looking at and healthy to very unhealthy the air to parts of the north bay especially closer to where that fire is burning. I want to show you Current Conditions because were looking at lighter winds thankfully so. We are seeing relative humidity values increase as well and that is a very good thing with onshore winds that will be kicking in through the day. That should help firefighting efforts and we will see those light winds as we go through our day today. With that change in the wind direction, that could test containment lines and pushed the fire in a new direction, so we will watch that closely. To the virus, a grim new milestone, John Hopkins University is reporting 1 million coronavirus deaths worldwide in the u. S. Alone, it accounts for 20 of them. In california, the Positivity Rate is still trending downward and there were fewer than 3000 new cases reported monday. The governor warns the virus is trending upward and that spread is likely. California health and Human Services secretary doctor mark ghaly will give an update on with 19. He is scheduled to announce changes by some bay area counties and their tier status. And with flu season around the corner, the governor is encouraging everyone to get the flu shot by demonstrating that himself according to the centers for Disease Control and prevention, flu season starts in the fall with the peak in february. The virus has put the brakes on many companies. Sales for one business has actually been skyrocketing. Instead of shutting down at the start of the pandemic, the orange countybased Ebike Company decided to have everyone work separate shifts around the clock. The Company Built and sold 50 bikes every week but now they are building, packing, and shipping 151 per week. We have about four times more compared to what we started with. And has almost helped your business because more people want to get outside and they want to get some exercise and they want to go together as a family. . They source parts from 11 Different Countries and engineers build batteries from scratch and mechanics hand cut and mold offenders and chain guards write out what. Mary lee is tracking the forecast this morning and how the winds are still playing the factor. We have light winds this morning and out of the northeast but eventually out of the southwest and looking at hazy and smoky skies with that lighter condition really keeping that smoke in our area. A spare the air alert remains in effect all the way through friday. And we are closer to where the glass fire is a burning. It is unhealthy for sensitive groups for the rest of the bay area. Lets check out current aqi values. Looking at good air quality for San Francisco, redwood city, san leandro and oakland, moderate for san jose and for livermore, and unhealthy air for healdsburg, santa rosa, and closer to the glass fire, and healthy to hazardous air quality. Moderate for san rafael, concord, and vacaville. We are getting a lot of viewer photos and this is another one that darrell shook sent in from his neighborhood in santa rosa and you can see the glass fire in the distance in the hills and we are telling everyone to please be safe. We love seeing reviewer for this but we want to make sure you are okay and that you are safe. Even if you are not under evacuation orders but you feel unsafe, it is always better to leave. Make sure you are okay. That is the most important thing. Lets show you a live look with our san jose camera. Right now, the south bay is 64 degrees and 64 for livermore and 63 for concord and oakland is 61 and 51 in santa rosa and 57 for San Francisco. So the strong ridge of High Pressure is in place and the heat dome will be the dominant weather feature through the work week and you can see that cloud cover going up and over upressure. Ridge of high we will start to see a bit of onshore winds as we go through the day and temperatures will be a little cooler and you will notice that along the coast and the bay. Take you hour by hour on future cast, skies are clearing but still those hazy and smoky skies for sure and then through tonight into tomorrow morning, we will see that fog returning along the coast and the bay. The future cast, we have a some smoke concentration and hazy and smoky skies with our atmosphere. And through the work week, that is why the spare the air alert remains in effect all through friday. Daytime highs for the south bay are just a little bit cooler, 92 in santa clara and 93 in san jose an idea for morgan hill. It is still hot but not as hot as yesterday but still dealing with triple digit heat for concord, Pleasant Hill, and mid to upper 90s this afternoon. Around the bay on the coast, you will feel more of that onshore flow and the ocean breeze. 75 in San Francisco, 86 in oakland for the north bay, highs in the upper 80s for santa rosa and still triple digit heat in sonoma. Here is the extended forecast. Warm to hot conditions as we go through the workweek and finally, cooling off for the weekend and into early next week. That is look at your weather. Lets look at traffic. I am monitoring the road closures in the north bay as well as some slow in conditions for your morning commute. Here is the minutes freeway. There are delays around southbound 880. You can see that line of red is a slow ride out of downtown oakland, down to 23rd avenue, where they have alternating lane closures. It is in the clearing stages. They hope to have everything wrapped up by 6 00 but things are still pretty slow. 22 minute drive time now from macarthur maze. You can also use 580 through oakland freeflowing in both directions. Not this portion of 580 for the altamont pass. It extends all the way to north flynn, where we had an earlier accidents. It is still very slow, 205 to 680, about a 45 minute drive time. There are brake lights around the dublin interchange. The bay bridge has metering lights on and they were turned on about 20 minutes ago, so a slow right out of the east bay into the city and i am getting supports from richmond. And a fog advisory remains for the golden gate bridge. Theres plenty of visibility out of more and into San Francisco. That is a look at your morning drive. There is more than 60,000 people told to get out. They stressed the nearly b,12 million up and down the county east of santa rosa. And a lot of them have had to flee their homes with the fires exploding we have seen scenes like this of them trying to get out as flames surround the road. This is where many people have come. A lot of folks in the last couple of hours have found other places to go but this is an evacuation zone and do to with restrictions, what youre basically seeing is rvs and then cars with tents next to them. They have to remain distant in order to do that and there are two options on the Sonoma County side, one around sonoma raceway. As far as fires are concerned, it is pretty much the quieter side for that was not the situation yesterday. That is why there are so many people being evacuated. Again, there is still a certain level of threat and about 113 buildings have been destroyed including homes and many more of them have been damaged and 8500 of them are currently threatened as a result of those fires. We will drive you through the burn zone and we did see a lot of patrols around. Police are making sure, they are checking to see if we are there. Folks can feel confident later. Pg e crews were there to make sure power lines were safe and the polls were safe. That all being said, it is not safe to go back in the zones and they want to make sure that officials know that you do not it looks like a big wave coming over the hill, a wave of fire. It was crazy. It is dangerous to go back in there. It gets in the way of the Public Safety resources who were in there, trying to fight the fires. When it comes to schools, they are closed. Here is a list of the districts that are closed, Kenwood School district, Linden Valley union School District, all Santa Rosa City schools are closed and today and tomorrow, and Sonoma Valley unified School District. They are closed and that includes Distance Learning because as you can imagine, if you are a student, and youre staying in an rv, it is more difficult. Youre in a car or a tent next to a car, at the fairgrounds, that is difficult for you to be able to do Distance Learning. So School District are being accommodating of that. We will have the latest on the fire and be sure to bring that to you as well. In petaluma, kpix 5 the finals are here and the league is harnessing Technology Like never before. . Live from the bay area studios, this is kpix 5 this morning. Right now, on kpix 5 and streaming on cbsn bay area, and entire town evacuated. We are live in the north bay to see how the weather is affecting the wildfires. Homes consumed, wineries are burned to the ground take a look at the destruction this morning. A battle in the buckeye state. Of residential face off like no other. We have a preview of the first state. We are continuing to follow breaking news, the wildfires in the north bay. The glass fire is burning in napa and sonoma counties and has scorched more than 36,000 acres. Theyre at 0 containment at this point and the governor has now declared a state of emergency. This puts into perspective how fast this fire truly is. Right now, you can see the active wildfires including the glass fire froms case and all of that smoke. The big area of concern right now is in napa county, the entire city of calistoga is under a mandatory evacuation order. We are excited and exhausted. We have been bringing you live coverage all morning long. Lets go out to anne makovec, who was here with the latest evacuation orders in calistoga. We are dealing with ash. There are large chunks but the good news is it is coming straight down we are not seeing those whipping winds that we saw yesterday and the temperatures are cooler but you can see here behind me, this started glowing again after looking like it was dampening down a little bit. You can see that is the rate on silverado trail, east of the city of calistoga, where i am standing. There are some winds in the canyon, whipping that up. We are waiting to hear from cal fire later on this morning as to how much progress they were able to make on this fire overnight. Here is a look at the same view, couple of hours ago when we did see more fire activity on the ridge and that is concerning firefighters , if it can come down the hill to the city of calistoga, the mandatory evacuations here started yesterday morning and by the afternoon, the entire city was being cleared up the population is 5300 but normally, it is close to harvest and you see a lot of tourists in the area. The fire has crested the hill near the edge of silverado trail, so police had to fan out throughout the city limits, telling people to evacuate immediately. You are standing in your driveway and looking at your house, thinking will i ever see it again . The uncertainty is what is really the scariest part, not knowing. Reporter all told, about 70,000 people are under evacuation orders from this fire in here and napa and in Sonoma County. There is no idea when these people will be able to return home or what they will be able to return home to. We know that 113 structures have been destroyed but that number is sure to rise as firefighters are able to get into some of those burnedout areas. Lets go live to emily turner, who is on the other side of this huge fire, on the Sonoma County side and what are you seeing over there . . When it comes to the flames, not such a situation compared to yesterday. That is more on the napa side. Now they are more about evacuees because yesterday, the way the weather patterns were with that red flag warning weather, the diablo winds were pushing the fire down towards the valley floor into santa rosa proper and all of those areas were evacuated one after the other. The winds have shifted and that is why they are sending flames over where anne makovec is. There are so many evacuees and they opened two shelters, one of them at the petaluma fairgrounds and the other is further north excuse me, further to the south at the santa rosa excuse me, the Sonoma County raceway. It is much quieter but as you said, 113 total buildings have been destroyed and many more of those have been damaged and still, 8500 structures are threatened. We were over in the burn zone earlier and we had several patrols and lots of police presence, making sure that those neighborhoods are safe and locked down. They wanted to make sure we were okay to be in that area. We saw pg e crews there to make sure that they were going to be okay and that they were able to take care of some of the power lines and the power poles but at this point, it is still not safe for folks to go back in. It is dangerous to uit gets in the way of the Public Safety resources who were in there, trying to fight the fires. There are schools that are closed in the area because of many are evacuated and unable to do even Distance Learning, so that also has been canceled. Here are the lists of those close, Bennett Valley union School District, Kenwood School district, Lincoln Valley union, and all Santa Rosa City schools and Sonoma Valley unified School District. To give you an idea, of why that is the case, you can see behind me that there are rvs in the distance and that is because people are camped out and that is due to covert restrictions and they cannot necessarily be in an actual Evacuation Center and they have been told to come here and maintain distance. If you have an rv, you can come here but also there are people in cars who are parked next to an empty spot and theyre sleeping in tents or sleeping in their cars. There are some they have had other places to go. We are waiting for an update from cal fire and from santa rosa fire further in santa rosa at 11 00. In petaluma, kpix 5 a spare the air alert has been extended through friday. The air quality yesterday was up and down all day long. Lets go to meteorologist mary lee for the air quality and the heat and the winds we have a lot going on today. For sure, so tracking the hazy and smoky skies, not just today but through the work week, which is why the spare the air alert remains in effect all the way through friday. I want to talk about Current Conditions where the glass fire is burning and watching at least improving conditions. We are watching the winds subsided significantly since yesterday morning. That is a very good thing. There are light conditions with those winds and also watching relative humidity values rise. 17 to 35 and we were talking about the cooler temperatures in the 60s in that area. Even though we will continue to see light winds today, we are going to see the winds out of the northeast eventually out of the southwest with that onshore flow and with it, that could test containment lines with that shifting wind direction and could push the fire in a new direction that we are watching that closely. Lets talk about our air quality. Unhealthy for the north bay and unhealthy for sensitive groups for the rest of the bay area with a spare the air alert in effect. Closer to the glass fire, i have been watching very unhealthy air to even hazardous air quality and temperatures are going to be cooler compared to yesterday and you will notice the difference along the coast and the day, upper 60s for pacifica, mid80s in oakland but for inland locations, were talking about 90s to triple digit heat. I will show you that smoke forecast in just a moment but now is check in with gianna for a look at road closures due to the Massive Wildfire burning. We have an overview of the areas where we have a number of road closures due to the wildfires infounder of castello di amorosa, he was shocked at the power of this wildfire. I thought it was over this old grotto trails, so i thought we were fine but i was wrong. I should have stayed up all night. I am sorry i went to bed. I am tracking hazy and smoky skies and it will continue all of the way through the work week, which is why the spare the air alert has been extended through friday. Unhealthy air for the north bay, unhealthy air for sensitive groups and for the rest of the bay area and checking current air quality conditions, aqi values are good for San Francisco, redwood city, san leandro, and oakland, moderate for san jose and livermore, and for healdsburg, santa rosa, unhealthy air but closer to the glass fire, looking at very unhealthy air to even hazardous air quality. Margaret for san rafael, concord, and vacaville and vallejo and san pablo and for berkeley is the same. We have been getting a lot of your photos. I told them to really please be safe, even if you are not under mandatory evacuation orders, but if you feel unsafe it is always best to leave and we want to make sure you are okay and safe. That is the most important thing. Lets get to live with our roof camera and we are tracking some clouds and fog. That is the onshore flow, the Pacific Ocean breeze slowly kicking in. Temperatures are running in the 50s to the 60s at this hour but that he dome is still in place with a strong ridge of High Pressure. You can see cloud cover is going up and over that strong ridge and will be the dominant weather feature through the work week. Take you hour by hour on future cast, we are looking at those hazy and smoky skies and as we look to tonight, we are going to see that fog rolled back along the coast and especially around the bay and that will be the case through the rest of the work week. Were talking about that concentration forecast we are looking at those hazy and smoky skies today as well as tomorrow and actually through the next several days. Daytime highs today are a little cooler compared to yesterday and even for the south bay, looking at 92 for santa clara, 93 for san jose unot quite as hot as yesterday but still for the east bay, dealing with triple digit heat for concord and Pleasant Hill and the trivalley in the mid to upper 90s and around the bay, you will notice that cool down in San Francisco come in the 90s and now in the mid70s this afternoon. Mid80s in oakland and alameda and highs for the north bay in the 90s for petaluma and napa and triple digit heat in sonoma and there are temperatures in the upper 80s later today. Areas the extended forecast of what you can expect as we are looking at heart conditions with those hazy and smoky skies and we are cooler for the weekend and into early next week.
