As we recently reported latinos make up 18 of the citys population but 51 of those are tested positive for the virus. Many are frontline workers who go home to a crowded multigenerational household. Today the city announced a program to try to solve that problem. 28. 5 million will be allocated to the citys Latino Community to combat the virus. The money will go toward covid 19 testing, including Community Popup hubs, food support, housing subsidies and even eviction prevention. We have to do a better job to address the disparity. Mayor london breed was on a forum today that focused on San Franciscos flattening of the curve over the last six months. There is still this disparity which means weve got to be aggressive and very deliberate about what we should be doing with this particular community. New data suggest the economic boost from businesses reopenings is right now there are lots of tenants and landlords who are struggling to make ends meet rita Company Called his number is launching a first of its kind rent guaranteed program. That means if the tenant cant cover rent for reasons other than covid, the landlord still gets paid. Susie steimle shows us how it works and what the limitations are. Reporter for roughly 10 million small landlords across the country cash flow for monthly rent is critical to keep them afloat. Some landlords are worse off than the tenants. Its called the insta rent guarantee. If you find tenant through zumper you can guarantee you wont lose out if your tenant cant pay. If they are not paying that rent we end up covering you up to 12 months. They dont guarantee rent after that 12 month period. Zumper is trying to limit the likelihood of a failed relationship within the unit to ensure they dont have to actually cover the rent. Zumper will only cover apartments that are less than 110 of the media market rate or 4000 a month in San Francisco. The tenant has to have a credit score of 650 or higher and an income of three times the monthly rent and no history of evictions to qualify for coverage. And if youve lost rent due to covid19, or any future recession, it wont be covered. It is a tremendously stressful period for many people who are confronted with individuals who, for a number of reasons are not able to pay their rents. At 4000 a month the landlord would pay 80 a month to ensure that rent. If the tenant skips out at the end of the lease it doesnt quite pencil out. On the 11th month if you paid close to 1000 and all you are going to get is potentially one month of rent paid by zumper if the tenant doesnt pay, then you overpaid for that insurance policy. For others, its purchasing peace of mind, which can make all the difference when inviting someone to stay in your home. It is a lot of stress and anxiety, so how can we help out in that regard. Zumper is the Fastest Growing rental platform with some new bigname investors. Its raised 200 million since its inception in 2012. A good view of downtown, the fog spreading in wont be as much of an issue overnight. Temperatures in the 60s everywhere. Everywhere from 60 degrees in the city to 66 in concord. Everyone will drop down into the 50s later on tonight. Open up those windows before the heat settles in. One more day of above average temperatures for tomorrow. Low 80s in the santa clara valley, 80 for a high in san jose. The hotspots are east of the diablo range to around 90 degrees. Upper 60s and low 70s around the central bay and mostly mid 80s for the north bay. Then the heat will really start to kick in on saturday. You can add about 8 to 10 degrees, putting us near triple digit territory. The air quality, also something we have to be concerned about. The past several days, good air quality because weve had that nice onshore flow. Just a subtle little shift in the winds at the level of the atmosphere tomorrow will try to grab some of the smoke from the august complex and drag it down into the north bay and maybe the east bay. Similar conditions on saturday. Its not a big when shift overall but it will send some of the smoke toward us and then things get complicated as we head into the second half of the weekend. These are kind of the midlevel winds in the atmosphere, but a little system will try to duck underneath that and turn those midlevel winds to the east and it will take the smoke from the creek fire and blow it across the bay area. This is one version of one forecast model, it doesnt mean that it is what will happen but it does give us a distinct possibility. At this point the epa and bay area air Quality Management district have moderate air quality, but if things keep heading in that direction you will start to see some orange and red dots indicating unhealthy air quality for sunday, monday and likely into tuesday. Triple digits or close to it sunday, monday and tuesday, still well into the 90s wednesday and thursday. Close to 90 even around the bay on monday and then temperatures drop off slightly by wednesday and thursday.
