The schools preschool eighth grade and preschool has already begun and they plan to open up very soon for younger students. I feel like we are almost as ready as we can be. The inspectors are carefully going down the list, hand sanitizer, abundant cleaning supplies, windows of being able to be open, students divided into cohorts. So if one kid gets sick only the kids in the cohort will go into quarantine. The Health Department is measuring to make sure everyone is six feet apart, but it not desk to desk. Those are four feet apart, it student to student. So the chairs will be six feet apart. There is also an intense interest in the distance between students and teacher. There is no such thing as zero risk, its just about mitigating that risk. The Health Department has learned a lot about the virus since march when educators were more worried about cleaning surfaces. We told them they can do a routine nidoesnt necessarily need deep cleaning. But they need to focus more on face coverings and physical distancing. We know that children under 10 are less likely to be infected. If they are infected they are less likely to be sick. Dr. George rutherford says that because kids are much less likely to get sick he is generally comfortable getting students back to school as long as officials keep following the science. I think we are doing it pretty carefully, especially for the elementary kids. I do worry more about the high school, as you get older you are much more social, try to be take your mask off. Those are all potentially problematic of years. As for the San Francisco school, once approved they will be one of the first schools in the city to bring students back and there will be a lot for them to learn about, like silent lunch. Kids need to be in school. This is what it is about. The light bulbs need to go back on for their social and Emotional Health as well as their learning. So far worthen 70 private and parochial schools are in the process of requesting reopening in the city. The San FranciscoPublic Schools have not yet announced any timetable for reopening area then theres this to consider tonight. The wind has consistently been coming in from that direction, rever. The atmosphere does aykn been hanging around offshore for the past couple of days but will make its way into the Pacific Northwest tomorrow. Bringing them some very needed rainfall to help with the wildfire situation but unfortunately i dont think it will bring much rain to northern california. As the storm system moves inland, this is where it gets complicated. The winds will shift and we will get a northerly component and that could send some of the smoke back down toward the bay area. Lets shift over toward our experimental smoke forecast model. It starts off good, this goes from 5 00 tomorrow morning through 5 00 on saturday. And things for the short term continue heading in a good direction. But the wind will shift on saturday and here comes the low level smoke back into the bay area. This is one version of one forecast model. It is a strong indicator that we need to be prepared for a decrease in air quality as we head into the weekend. The epas official forecast puts us back into the moderate category for saturday, sunday and monday. And we may see some orange or red dots indicating unhealthy air quality by saturday or sunday.
