So were breathing in some of the cleanest air that we have seen in nearly a month. And r s shows that were going to continue over the next couple of days to see that better air quality as we head at least through the workweek. So some good news with that ocean breeze kicking in for us. And were looking at those temperatures because of a lesunshine, san jose and mid 80s for concord. So right around where we should be for this time of year, well talk about what you can expect and taking you through the workweek with that better air quality and also some changes for the weekend, details on that coming up. Gianna . Good morning, our first look at the roadways today. And if you plan on taking the eastshore freeway, the main lines of the freeway are open. However, one of the exit ramps are completely shut down due a crash that happened overnight. This is the pour tremendous row avenue ramp from eastbound 80. Closed due to a serious crash. This was a fatality. So expect some activity there for quite some time. So again, portrero on ramp to westbound 808 is closed until further notice. Keep a close eye on that. Westbound 58. Already getting busy this morning, 30 minute drive time into the Altamont Pass if you are coming from 205 to 680 and delays are building already out of tracy. Anne . Im anne makovec at the live news desk. We have some breaking news in san jose. A mass shooting late last night. This happened in the 600 block of south 8th street. Five people were shot. And at least two of them this morning sadly, are dead. Happened at around 10 00 p. M. And this is a very busy area of san jose. Its right downtown a few blocks south of san jose state university. Its also just east of the elementary school. We heard from a neighbor about what they experienced when this happened. I was just sitting in my room and just working on my laptop. Heard five shots go off. Then heard a bunch of screaming. There was a couple of cars skirting and then i went and told my wife i was kind of just like shut the lights off and lock the doors. And she said shed already heard some shots earlier. Well, the police have not confirmed many details just that there were five people shot and two of them are dead. They said they can provide more throughout this morning, of course we will be bringing them to you. No suspect description at this point. But several of the witnesses we heard from said that it did sound like a driveby. It sounds like this all happened outdoors. But again were going to keep you posted this morning. Back to you. Anne, thank you. Now to a bizarre blow torch attack in berkeley that ended when the victims subdued the attacker. But not before he pulled out a knife and an ax. This Surveillance Video shows just how quickly it all happened. The suspect in a backpack walks into a tee shop and immediately lights a customers hair on fire. A witness tells us it appeared the man was still trying to light his torch after the first attack so the victims tried to restrain him. Once we got outside, we were kind of just bumping firsts and he got me in the face a couple of times and i got him back. I took him down to the ground and he got to the floor and his hand was there. Stepped on it and stepped on his wrist. Pulled him up. Disarmed him from the knife. Police made a quick arrest and no word yet on a motive. As for the young men their hair was singed and they got scraped up from the fight but theyre doing okay. After some heated exchanges between city leaders and the Police Department i dont believe as a council we should allow for situations that we know are highly likely to cause serious injury and even death to our residents. Im not going to commit the Officers Department to stand on a line and not be able to defend themselves. San jose pd fired rubber bullets several times to a crowd in late may outside city hall. A former sergeant tells us he feels three key elements are needed to change within the agency. Training and doing background checks on officers and encouraging transparency. If you can afford to put 1,000 gun on everybodys head. You can afford to put a body cam on everybodys chest. Even with the changes, the council and the Police Department acknowledged the policies will always need to be reexamined to make sure they are serving their community the best way possible. On our storm watch this morning, slow moving Hurricane Sally made landfall on the gulf coast overnight. You can see that storm just churning near the alabama and florida coastlines right now. Reporter power crews were out overnight, trying to minimize outages. The slow moving storm destroyed docks in pensacola beach, florida on tuesday with massive waves threatening others. Protective dunes and dolphin island, alabama washed away. Everybody aint like me. Reporter just north in mobile, Robert Martin was out enjoying the weather. But had his sights set on better days. After the storm, im just looking through and looking at the weekend and its going to be sunny and 75. And nice beach out here in mobile, alabama. Reporter governor iveo warned of historic flooding. Those who live on the gulf coast are all too familiar with mother natures wrath. We still hope and pray that sally will not bring that type of pain and heartache. It was moving so slowly just 2 Miles Per Hour at points, allowing a time to strengthen as it moved toward the coastline here originally taking aim at mississippi. The storm turned east taking greater aim at alabama and the florida panhandle. All over the place. Reporter residents in mississippi took advantage of the near miss. While keeping those in the path of sally in their thoughts. Just because were not going to you know, be the direct hit or in the path, that means somebody else is. This morning, flames are marching closer to a Historic Site in los angeles. The famed Mount Wilson Observatory is in danger from the bobcat fire. Flames are just 500 feet away. Firefighters are are working to protect the 116yearold landmark. There are also several Communications Towers atop mount wilson that are being threatened right now. Up north in butte county, containment has dropped in the deadly north complex fire. Yesterday, it was at 39 . This morning, its at 34 . Cal fire says the smoke clearing away actually had a negative effect on the blaze. And increased fire activity. The fire has grown to 427 square miles and is being blamed for15 deaths. And cal fire announced they expect to have full containment on the czu lightning complex by sunday night. That fire broke out nearly a month ago in san mateo and santa cruz counties. Over the last few days, businesses limited their Opening Hours or closed completely because of the air. One cafe in burlingame stayed open, losing sales at first, but rebounding as their customers came back.
