Quality get a little bit better. Yesterday, we started off the day with unhealthy to very unhealthy air and now were looking at some spots even moderate air quality this morning. So that is the difference compared to what we have experienced over the last several days. Moderate air quality in santa rosa, and that is great to see it is or and starts in San Francisco, napa, fairfield, rio vista, unhealthy for everyone for san rafael, oakland, redwood city, livermore, and san jose. We are beginning to see a little bit of improvement and we will continue to improve with the air quality as we go through the workweek. Looking at that spare the air alert that remains in effect for the bay area, it is going a record 29 days in a row with our smoky skies and that spare the air alert. Our smoke model, as we got through the next couple of days does show the improving air quality. So there is hope as we go through the next few days. We will talk more about that, the better days for air quality, coming up in a few minutes. Take a look at the roadways. U have bre this. This is due to roadwork. I hope to have lanes opened by 6 00 picks outbound 880 near the boulevard, you have a slow and go ride. The alternating lane closures are in that area. There is only one lane open for people to squeeze by. If youre going towards the san mateo bridge , once you get on the bridge, things are moving pretty nicely and most of those brake lights are concentrated to that portion of downtown oakland. The rest of the drive is not bad on 24 despite it being a trouble spot. You do have slow and go condition southbound 680 if youre going towards that 24 connector. There was roadwork here as well through walnut creek. You only have one lane of traffic able to squeeze through that area. That should be cleared up within the next half hour, so hopefully we will see an improvement for that 680 drive. If you are taking westbound 580 to 680, that will take you some time. There are brake lights into the Allatoona Pass. Lets take a look at satellite images coming in. A big ne is creeping toward the gulf coast right now. Forecasters are warning of potentially historic flooding for deadly storm surges and extreme lifethreatening flash flooding. So hundreds of miles of coastline are under storm watches and warnings. Lets go to the coast of florida. This is santa rosa county. Were talking 2. 5 feet of rain in some places plus the possibility of tornadoes. You can see it is pretty calm but floridas coastline a single lot of rain from the outer bands and they have declared a state of emergency in the western most counties. Preparations have begun the route the gulf coast right now. A lot of people are boarding up and leaving their homes before the storm hits landfall and then here in is the news that the storm does appear to be intensifying because it has been moving so slowly. The front of storm surge can be as high as nine feet and that is exacerbated by the slow movement. Right now, a category two storm weakening somewhat but it is still churning in the golf. It is expected to make landfall tomorrow morning and may be late morning but some could be overnight. We are going to keep our eye on that. Back to you. On our fire watch, new developments in two of the most dangerous wildfires burning across the state right now. Last night, firefighters lost containment on the bobcat fire, burning near la. New evacuation orders have been issued for about 300 homes and the weather has been warm and dry and it is expected to be even worse today. The fire is only 3 contained at last check. And north of sacramento, search and rescue crews are still digging through the rubble. Now to the coronavirus, over the last seven days, just 3. 5 of covid19 testings came back positive. That is the lowest rate since the state began reporting the data. Do you know what is in your water . At least a 500 Drinking Water wells have potentially Dangerous Levels of a highly toxic family of chemicals. We are looking at how some of the water in the bay area is impacted. Surrounded by lush, green fields, pleasant and often makes the top 10 list of desirable places to live but a new list just now is nothing to boast about. I was just floored. That was jill bucks reaction when she found out her town made the top 10 for dangerous Drinking Water. Pleasanton relies heavily on groundwater for tap water but stopped using one of its wells last fall after statemandated testing found it contained potentially unsafe levels of two chemicals that are part of a family called pfas. It is persistent and bioaccumulative, so it does not just enter your body and flush right out. It stays and the Health Impacts devend, rst used chicale arofromshoes alled fo chemicals because once they get into the environment, they never degrade. . What characterizes this is the strongest chemical bond that we have is in them. Amy kyle is with Uc Berkeley School of Public Health. It is the quadruple whammy and the national we are banning chemicals that are toxic but some of these are all three and also mobile in water. It is not only bad but it is going to get everywhere. According to the centers for Disease Control and prevention, the Scientific Evidence linking pfas exposure with Harmful Health effects is increasing. Some studies have shown that exposure to certain pfas might adversely affect growth, learning, and behavior of children. Lowering a chance of getting pregnant, increasing cholesterol levels and affecting immune systems and increasing the risk of some cancers as well. Better living through chemistry is in our dna. Much of the research came from the settlement of a lawsuit against pfas manufactur rs. One pfas. Laimedlm they began testing for certain pfas and Drinking Water and issued a federal health advisory. But five years later, pfas chemicals are still not regulated. It is not regulated and it goes into the air and it is not regulated when it gets dumped into the wasterist regulated. It is a hazardous waste. Manufacturers do not have to disclose if or how the chemicals are used and there are thousands of them. I had to give federal epa enough because they are allowing all these things to be used in ways that is letting them accumulate in the environment and not even doing the most basic step of identifying what they are and how you can measure them. With little federal guidance, states started stepping up your california started requiring testing of Drinking Water wells for pfas last year , 11 wells in the tri valley area contained levels high enough to trigger notification to residents. Two of them, pleasantons well ate and zone seven mocho 1 were among the 12 most pfas contaminated water sources in the state. They triggered a required response from local governments. The number one messages even though we are finding pfas in the source groundwater, it is not getting to people and businesses tapped. Valerie pryor told us water from mocho 1 is going to wells. Other wells where we are able to, we run them through a reverse osmosis plant, which does remove the pfas. They said zone 7 has hired a consultant. However it will cost. The state has identified airports, landfills, and former and active military bases. Whoever is responsible should help pay for it. That remains a mystery, leading the keynote bill most likely to local residents like jill buck. We know it is not just a continuous cycle of taxpayers cleaning up someone elses mess. Congress has ordered the removal of pfas chemicals in Firefighting Foam by the year 2024. As for the teflon pan, it has been reformulated with no pfas chemicals on the advisory list, however other pfas chemicals are still being used without the requirement to disclose them. Southbound 880, that is towards the 238 connector. South of there, traffic is moving better and towards the san mateo bridge and the span, there are no brake lights towards 101 and 101 itself along that site looks good in both directions. If you were going out of walnut creek, south 880 has brake lights building all the way into Pleasant Hill. You have some roadwork to contend with near this area, blocking one or two lanes.
