Times just a second ago for the he says these kinds of bad surprises happen to tenants Altamont Pass commute. Extends to the north flynn like vanessa all the time. Whats worse . Even right now the state doesnt have a mechanism to area. So speak of public transit. Track the Affordable Housing b. A. R. T. Will be having some changes contracts that are about to expire. Beginning september 14th. Actually increasing service, because the developments out there like fosters landing more frequency during peak arent even in the database commute times on several lines. M. Rate in the next year. On weekdays. But schwartz says fosters thats right. Landing is proof there are many so im tracking our air quality more. There are loopholes in the conditions and whats existing state preservation concerning this morning is our unhealthy air quality. Notice law that have allowed a difference compared to yesterday. So looking at those red dots owners of developments like and even purple dots in spots fosters landing to not file in San Francisco and the north documents regularly that are bay, and that is unhealthy to transparent. The reality of the matter very unhealthy air as we start is, this is really a human off our day. So we are looking at the air tragedy. Its a story that is what the city is dealing with but quality worse this morning with its not unique to foster city. Reporter sam is the former that unhealthy air for the bay mayor and now city council area. Its all because of that smoke now not just aloft up in the member of foster city. He says hes been trying to Higher Elevations, but now down strike a deal with the owners to the surface. And we are going with our spare the air alert and a record 24 of fosters landing, essex. To try to acquire the days in a row with the spare the air alert for the bay area. Property if you will so we can now heres a live look with our preserve it. Thats not a feasible option oakland camera and i want to due to the cost its going to show you this. Because it is so smoky that we take. About 50 million. Number one. Number two, we dont have a cant even make out anything willing seller. Reporter schwartzs group was able to help pass a state with our live camera in law that will require all oakland. Oour temperatures this morning Affordable Housing groups to are in the upper 50s to low 60s report their Expiration Date to at this hour. And i want to talk about the the state. But the database likely wont reason why we had those orange skies yesterday. Exist until next year. We have these Massive Wildfire and all that does is track burning around us about 150 expirations, it doesnt miles away. Incentivize owners like essex and smoke from these wildfires to help preserve this rare can actually rise thousands of housing. The incentives just arent feet up into our atmosphere. Then travel hundreds of miles always there. Thats right. Theyre looking at real away. Thats exactly what we saw. Estate as assets that make the upper level winds brought money. Reporter for vanessa, this all of that smoke into the bay will mean displacement. Area. And the reason why we have the shes going to move to georgia. Orange skies is what we call for dozens of other seniors, it rayleigh scattering. So were looking at the depth could put them on the streets. And density of the smoke its hashed. Really, really hard. Particles in our atmosphere. Especially when you spend your life doing everything you are now with those smoke particles, supposed to do. They are actually scattering reporter in foster city, the light. Susie steimle, kpix 5. And absorbing the blue light. So what you have left are those keep sending your stories orange and red colors in the and ideas to sky. Projecthome cbs. Com. So its why we had that and see all of Susie Steimles perpetual sunset yesterday. Now you might have noticed yesterday you couldnt smell reporting on our website. The smoke. And the air quality was a time now 5 16. Hopefully drivers wont be little bit better than what it distracted with another strange looked like and its all sky today. Take a look at this on your left, is what the drive across because of that marine layer. The bay bridge looked like that ocean breeze kept the yesterday. And on the right is a live look smoke suspended up in the at it now. Higher levels of the atmosphere. So you had and you saw that and gianna, i mean, it was orange filter in the sky but you didnt smell the smoke and really eerie yesterday. Man, it was. The air quality wasnt really i was perusing all the traffic that bad. Cameras yesterday and they were all kind of glowing that orange it was moderate for yesterday. But things are changing for today. We still have the upper level hue and even caltrans tweeted winds sending that smoke into out you know Poor Visibility on the freewaysment if that the bay area. But that smoke is now settling happens again today, use down to the surface. Caution as you are out and its the reason why we have about. Keep the headlights on but that unhealthy air this morning. Now as we look to the weekend, certainly strange sight indeed. Now speaking of the bay bridge, thats actually an area where we could see less smoke and we have some road work on the upper deck of the bay bridge. Hopefully so as the low and were seeing some road on the sensors. Pressure system ushers in more so it is a slow ride across the of the ocean breeze as we go to the weekend and into next week. Now because of that smoke, upper deck making that commute temperatures below average. Into San Francisco. Cooler and were looking at mid it was backed up worse earlier 70s in santa clara and san jose because of road work. That fremont exit is now open this afternoon. For the east bay upper 70s for but a couple of lanes still concord and pleasant hill. Blocked near the funnel area. Low 80s taillight trivalley traffic is still slow across the span. And around the bay mid 60s for 880 looking a little bit better San Francisco and for the north so some good news here. Bay in the low 70s this south 880 been dealing with afternoon. So heres that extended road work here as well as you forecast and what you can expect. Smoky skies again tomorrow with another spare the air alert head into downtown oakland. Slightly improving. We are seeing still some slow tomorrow as well. Speeds but not as far back as and hopefully, well see better air quality at least a little bit better as we look to the it was before. A little slow in downtown oakland. They may be clearing the lanes weekend and into next week. Back to you. As we speak. If you want to use 580 things hopefully, mary, thank you. Are looking better there ahead on kpix 5 and streaming through the drive through oakland. It is a slow ride westbound 580 on cbsn bay area, painting out of the Altamont Pass as you positivity. The 8yearold using her own work your way i should say challenges to help others. Out of tracy working into thnd s thats coming up. Remember, kpix 5 wants to bring you the good news happening in the bay area. Stet. Just go to kpix. Com together. Busier than uathere. Extends to north flynn and sluggish in the south bay as well. We have a crash though just a to find stories of how headsup northbound 280 right at page mill road. Thats a look at your morning drive. Smoky skies and unhealthy air once again today. Heres mary. Thats right. Yeah, were still dealing with it gianna, looking at unhealthy air quality as we start off our day. Current air quality conditions and you can see the red dots indicating that unhealthy air this morning. We are now going a record 24 days in a row with the spare the air alert for the bay area. So that spare the air alert extended today into tomorrow due to our smoky skies. And i know a lot of people were asking just what was happening with orange skies yesterday and i want to get to the Science Behind it in just a moment. But the san jose camera, temperatures in the upper 50s to low 60s. We have the Massive Wildfires burning nearby about 150 miles away from us. And smoke from these wildfires can actually rise thousands of feet up into the sky up hdred. D ats d those hore winds actually pushed all of that smoke into the bay area. Now the reason why we had those orange skies is what we call rayleigh scattering. The depth and density of the particles in the atmosphere. When you have a lot of them they can actually scatter the light and that actually absorbs the blue light. And what you have left are those red and orange colors and thats the reason why we have that perpetual sunset yesterday. With those orange and red colors of what we see. And also we had that marine layer. So we had that marine layer about 1,000 to 1500 feet deep. And that is the reason why we didnt smell the smoke. We had the ocean breeze and why the air quality wasnt quite as bad as what it looked. So that marine layer actually suspended or kept the smoke particles up in the Higher Elevations aloft and thats why it created that orange filter in the sky. Now as we look to today, the conditions not quite the same as yesterday. Were going to see a little bit of change in the winds aloft. But still dealing with a lot of smoke in the bay area. As we look to the weekend theres a possibility with the low pressure system to usher in the stronger onshore flow and ocean breeze. Fingers crossed on that. Hopefully. So looking at the daytime highs because of the smoke, not as atomhoweekend. To the extreme temperatures om reallng all too much. Mid 70s in santa clara as well as for san jose and campbell. For the east bay, looking at and 5 54 right now. New this morning, a maryland upper 70s for concord and for girl using her challenges to make the world a little pleasant hill.
