This map of the evacuation area shows the area shaded in red just west of windsor being told to get out now. This is north of Sweetwater Springs road west of westside road and east of palmer creek road. Also breaking, the first planned power shutoffs of the wildfire season getting underway. More than 22,000 bay area customers lose electricity. Most living in sonoma county, but also more than 5000 customers in napa county. Kpix 5 reporter in, is live. Reporter this is about the eighth or ninth time. The city of santa rosa has been affected by this. It tends to affect the same communities east of the city off sonoma highway. Here at this intersection it was completely dark just about an hour ago. Some of the lights of started to come on while many say it is an annoyance. They are now probe paired, they are now prepared to deal with these blackouts. With these windy nights in the heat, there is some ptsd there. This community has dealt with numerous devastating fires over the last few dear, years. Now this is just part of their lives. We saw it coming. We have done some preparations by way of a solar generator. As soon as the city got word of a possible ps ps, they updated preparations. The concern now is when decks. We set numerous records. Close in san jose. Santa rosa set a record for temperature and 112 degrees. There will still be triple digit heat on that tomorrow but not as many spots as hot as we have seen the last couple days. The red flag warning is in effect now. It goes through 8 00 a. M. Wednesday. We get into the details of that coming up in just a few minutes. Back to the fire watch in the explosive fire in Mendocino County. Rfid is trying to gain some sort of containment after the fire erupted near willits today. Flames have squish about 700 acres and there is 0 containment. Evacuation orders are in place. Hundreds of homes are in danger. Officials say one of the Top Priorities throughout the night is going to be keeping the fire from moving south toward homes in willits. Crews will face some of the toughest conditions with peak wind gusts expected tomorrow morning. In fresno county, military helicopters have been unsuccessful to reach 14 hikers stuck in the Sierra National forest. The group got trapped trying to escape the flames at lake edison and china peak. Hundreds of others were rescued over the weekend when they were caught in the path of the flames. The creek fire junta river cutting off the only road out of the mammoth pool reservoir. One count per captured this video and the helicopter landed in the inferno. They made it and my level of anxiety, fear, stress, it just went from 1 million to 10. It was just a big relief. To the north, this is what is left of a small town in Washington State after fire ripped through the area over the past few days. Authorities say 80 of the homes in the town of bolden are destroyed. At one point crews had to start picking which buildings to save as the fire was moving so quickly. We have had some big fires. In many cases, those fires have burnt up a lots of ground. They really have not destroyed as much property. What we see today is a just substantial. It is some of the biggest amounts of destruction i have ever seen. We are combining all the different factors we evaluate when we are diagnosing the fire threat which includes the dryness of the fire fuels and obviously that will be an issue with record he. The amount of moisture, the wind speed but we expect and temperatures we expect. You add that together and here is what the map looks like right now. All these numbers are below the halfway point. They are close to zero. But, watch what happens as temperatures rise. We are up to 5 and 7 because the wind will be gusting up. We are going to be toward the top of the scale heading toward lake tomorrow morning. The winds will be strongest, the temperature will be warm in the atmosphere fairly dry. These are numbers we do not want to see. The red flag warning includes the east bay hills and santa clara mountains. This is going to continue into tomorrow afternoon. It is a combination of very, very dry air. Relative humidity at 5 or lower with gusty winds. They are not bad right now but before the sun comes up tomorrow, at sunrise we are talking 35 to 40 mileperhour wind gusts that is a dry direction. 40 to 50 mileperhour guests heading for midday and then the wind relaxes somewhat but it will still be gusting throughout the afternoon. Any fire that gets going will have very dry fuels and will be able to move very quickly as the gusts push it along. Heres the red flag warning continuing to 8 00 on wednesday morning. That will be the concern as we head through the day tomorrow and any additional smoke makes the air quality that much worse. It is still very warm out there inland. Only mid 60s right now in San Francisco as the marin influences trying to creep back in but it will take a couple more days to really assert itself. I would be concerned about injecting positivity into the scenario. Not an ideal dog walking day with temperatures reaching to the low 90s. A lot of smoke in the atmosphere. These temperatures backing off from where we were today and yesterday. That is a trend which will continue as we head through the rest of the week. Temperatures will drop each day. Will start off in the 60s tomorrow morning. Some spots around 70 degrees. Another hot day but just not as hot. I noon, low to mid 80s with 90s for some of the hotspots for there inland. The hottest locations on the map will hit triple digits by tomorrow afternoon. At least we are backing out of the one tends. 110s.
