Heres a live look with our treasu imera. Looking at the bay bridge. In San Francisco this morning. Were in the 50s and 60s to start off the wednesday. So concord good morning to you its 61 and looking at 60 degrees for oakland and for san jose and upper 50s livermore and San Francisco and for santa rosa this morning. So a mix of smoke and fog this morning. Were looking at that bad air that remains trapped at the surface. So we have that ridge of High Pressure just kind of acting like a dome trapping the smoke at the surface. Still smoky as we look to our afternoon. And continuing actually over the next several days. In fact, we are going to see that ridge of High Pressure strengthening and that means our heat wave will kick in again for our holiday weekend. So checking air quality conditions, it does look better for many spots except for parts of the peninsula. Re air, the red and purple dots indicating that. For the south bay, san jose, moderate air quality for you. Looking at unhealthy air for sensitive groups for union city to fremont. And for concord, walnut creek, danville, looking at moderate air quality around the bay, moderate in saano and for oakland. Thats great to see. Were going to see temperatures that are going to be slightly below average for this time of year. With those hazy skies. And ill have more on a heat holiday encoming up in a w minute er iSan Francisco. With the very latest when it comes to the reopening plan for the city. Of course, its a rolling opening of sorts. But the one question on every parents mind i know is when are your kids going back to school . We love them but maybe its nice to have them back to School Little bit and give yourself break right . The timeline is actually the slowst of all the timelines with reopening. In midseptember, Community Learning thats like the pods, those hubs, and k6 schools, those will be able to reopen with safety waivers. We are working towards trying to reopen according to the city, middle schools, i guess it starts pretty much with the youngest ones and then moving to the oldest ones. All the way through eighth grade and nonwaiver k6 schools then to open by midoctober. However, high schools are really the big question mark here because High School Students transmit similar to adults. So theyre being more cautious as they approach the reopening of high schools. All of that however, is dependent upon us continuing to make progress in slowing the spread with reopening of businesses. What we have seen this year, with our students, especially those students who may not have parents or grandparents or Family Support to help them in their lessons, even when weve provided them with the devices and internet service, they are still falling further behind. Its why it was so important that we open these learning hubs and we are almost at capacity. Reporter again, so there is a big push to get kids back in school because they recognize the importance of that in person learning. But thats all dependent on being able to do that safely. Of course, this is again a rolling opening of sorts. And we will have a full recap of this coming up in the next half hour. Reporting live in San Francisco, im emily turner, kpix 5. This business offered for the speaker to come in on monday and told they were allowed by the city to have one customer at a time in the business. The speaker complied with the rules as presented r the establishment. Its unfireuating but its not surprising. I feel like people need to get their hair done and theyre going to. Pelosi has been heavily criticized on social media with many people accusing her of hypocrisy. Republicans are weighing in, House Minority leader mccarthy yet in part americans have shuttered businesses and complied with local orders and sacrificed everything to defeat the virus. President trump also tweeting criticism this morning. He retweeted the video and scolded the congresswoman for not wearing a mask. Lets go live to the big board now. The markets just opened and you can see the dow is up about 113 points. The numbers come as treasury secretary Steven Mnuchin hopes to soon reach a bipartisan Coronavirus Relief package. Developing this morning, just days before new York City Schools were supposed to reopen, the city is delaying the start of inperson learning by more than a week amid the threat of a teacher strike. Mayor bill de blasio says the first day of inperson schooling will be pushed from september 10th to september 21st with Remote Learning set to begin on september 16th. Meantime, spain has been preparing to reopen schools on friday with the host of coronavirus precautions in place amid surging new infections and increasing anxiety among parents and teachers unions. 11,000 additional teachers are being hired and makeshift classrooms are being built in schoolyards. Back here in the bay area, some musicians are fighting back this morning after park rangers silenced their performance. A jazz pianist has been Holding Small concerts a block from his home in the Golden Gate Park triangle. On friday, park rangers demanded they stop playing because schultz didnt have a permit. Some of the musicians have started a petition drive to get the city to allow small outdoor concerts that follow the health order. Happening today the street food park is providing the first outdoor barbershop with a food and beer garden experience. From 10 00 to 6 00 offering 20 barbers to fix home quarantine cuts. Touchless payments will be offered and mask wearing will be enforced. Another check of traffic and that big backup on the bay bridge. Yeah, it is a tough ride as you work at the bay bridge toll plaza. Were seeing lots of brake lights this morning. Because of this, traffic incident, motorcycle accident is whats causing this. Its just past the incline westbound there. Two left lanes are still blocked and the latest from chp though is theyre hoping to open up the lanes within the next couple of minutes. So that will certainly help. However, when something happens at the bay bridge, i mean the damage is done. You are going to have brake lights pretty much most of the morning for that morning ride and you have got delays beyond the point 58 ateastshore freewa commute. So it is a bit of a struggle there this morning. In fact ill show you on the maps here. Look at the red out of berkeley into emeryville. Also backed up there towards that 24 and 580 connector. The good news is, once you are past all that its a very easy ride heading into the rest across the upper deck into San Francisco. Use the san mateo bridge instead and were seeing a few more cars on the bridge likely because the delays of bay bridge. But still moving much better at a much better pace and only about 16 minutes for your drive time to go between 880 and over to 101. So that might be a better alternate route until we get the official word that lanes are cleared. Ust a headsup though. You work out of hayward 92st of freeway though pretty quiet this morning. Westbound 580, still busy were still seeing pretty busy ride coming out of tracy into the Altamont Pass there, our busiest spots between Mountain House over to grant line. So traffic is still a struggle there. And looks like delays are starting to form for that morning ride on westbound highway 4 especially out of bay point. Westbound ride there is definitely slowing down just a bit. All right, thats a look at your morning drive. Now lets check the forecast with mary. And gianna im tracking the smoke and haze and still looking at a spare the air alert that remains in effect and you can see how smoky it is from the Lick Observatory as we start off the wednesday. Temperatures are 50s to low 60s and were dealing with foggy conditions with that haze. Looking at 61 in concord and 60 for oakland and for san jose. Francisco and 58 for santa rosa. So checking air quality conditions. Many locations looking a little bit better compared to yesterday. But still one of the trouble spots, one of the worst spots for parts of the peninsula, you can see those red and purple dots and that does indicate unhealthy to very unhealthy air for redwood city down to mountain view. For the south bay, san jose looking at moderate air quality. Were looking at moderate air quality for concord and walnut creek in morning as well as for danville. Around the bay, moderate air for San Francisco and for oakland. For the north bay, looking pretty good for san rafael and kent field as well as for lark spur. But looking okay for petaluma as we start off the day. But because of this haze, we have that spare the air alert that remains in effect today, tomorrow and likely through the rest of the week and we have now broken the order for the most consecutive days with the spare the air alert in effect and now going on day 16 for us. And that breaks the old record of 14 days in a row set back in 2018 with the camp fire. So heres what you can expect. We have that strong ridge of High Pressure in place kind of trapping in that smoke at the surface.
