So because of that, we have a spare the air alert. That remains in effect today as well as through the weekend. So looking at that spare the air over the next few days and likely even beyond that. Now we are looking at that smoke forecast as we take you through the day, and you can see that is red and purple colors and that indicates that smoke. So still watching that as we head through our day. Were looking at the daytime highs seasonal. Upper 60s in San Francisco and mid 70s in oakland and mid 80s in san jose and low 90s for concord. Again were not seeing any delays southbound 101 working your way out of marin county. Heading into San Francisco. And in fact, from the Richmond San Rafael bridge, to the city, its about 15 minute drive time. But certainly a bit foggy there this morning. Careful using the Golden Gate Bridge and working your way across the span there. There are closures still in effect along the coast. Due to fire crews still working on these ongoing wildfires, san mateo county, highway 1, between the state park and schafer road reains shut down. More on that coming up in my next report. Anne . And now hes apologizing. 37yearold Brian Johnson in jail facing felony charges and a probation violation. He admitted to using credit cards from the firefighters wallet and has since written a letter of apology. Here we have somebody who came from completely out of the area to come here to Santa Cruz County to help our Community Get through the most catastrophic fire that we have seen in our history. And that somebody has the audacity to steal from this man. Well, according to the suspects girlfriend, it was all just a big misunderstanding. She says johnson had no idea the wallet belonged to a firefighter and made the mistake of using the cards. He did not find out until he saw himself on the news. He just was like i should just turn myself in now and it over with. He felt terrible. Why didnt he turn himself in now . Fear. You know nobody wants to go to jail. That and hes got more consequences than the normal person. Hes going to be in a lot of trouble. Johnsons arraignment is scheduled to happen in santa cruz at 10 30 a. M. On fire watch this morning. Crews are making more progress on a pair of massive wildfires. The fires burning across the south and east bays now 35 contained. And in the santa cruz mountains, 24 containment. As for the fires up north, containment remains steady. But the size is getting bigger. The lnu fires exploded more than 11,000 acres over 24 hours. Some evacuation orders have been lifted in solano county. But a lot of devastation left behind. This is what it looked like when families returned home along mount vaca. At least six people are dead and thousands without electricity this morning as hurricane laura now a tropical depression, continues to travel inland. Cbs Laura Podesta has the latest on the devastation left behind. She wanted to go like harvard or ivy league. Reporter 14yearold Cynthia Miller was the first confirmed fatality from hurricane laura. Killed by a tree that fell on her familys home. It was rain and wind everywhere. It sounded huge. We went right to the storm in the parents room and everyone was sitting in there and then the tree it came down. Reporter laura came asheer in the middle of the night, packing 10mileperhour winds. By thursday morning, the widespread destruction was in clear view. Buildings turned to rubble and rail cars knocked over and massive amounts of flooding. In west lake, louisiana, thick toxic smoke billowed from a plant that makes pool chemicals. We did not sustain and suffer the absolute catastrophic damage that we thought on the forecast we had last night. But we have sustained a tremendous amount of damage. Laura podesta, cbs news. The latest now on the coronavirus and just a matter of hours, more businesses in alameda and contra costa counties will welcome back customers. But theyll have to operate outdoors. New Health Orders will allow more businesses like nail salons, gyms and Fitness Centers and massage studios to reopen. Officials are urging people to continue wearing Face Coverings. Alameda county barbers and hair salons also allowed to open outdoors. That was already a south bay ch fines for violating Health Orders and now ut last month, governor gavin newsom shut down Indoor Services at churches and limited the amount of people at gatherings. But pastor jack treber defied the orders. The county fined him twice. 5,000 and according to the mercury news, he was fined again on wednesday. The pastor claims his parishioners are social distancing and wearing masks. This is not a hot spot. We were told that thousands were going to die. Theres not a pandemic here. Well restaurant sales in San Francisco are down 91 since the pandemic began. This is according to the chamber of commerce. The popular moroccan restaurant just debuted in the richmond district. It was meant to give the acclaimed restaurant a boost, something that eateries in the city need. The citys chamber looked at credit card swipes to analyze sales activity. Right now half the citys restaurants are closed either temporarily or for good. Basically the amount of revenue that were making is just to keep the lights on. The chamber of commerce says the richmond and Mission Districts are faring better than others during the pandemic. But so ma and the financial district restaurants are hurting the most. San francisco based Grocery Delivery Service instacart is facing a new lawsuit. The attorney general in washington, d. C. You can see the purple dots and that does indicate very unhealthy air as we start off the day. And looking at unhealthy air for petaluma and for napa for sensitive groups this morning. So that spare the air alert in effect today and now extended through the weekend. Due to our haze and smoke from all those wildfires burning in our region. This low pressure system, this weak low, keeping things on the mild side so another day of seasonal temperatures if not just a little bit slightly warmer compared to yesterday afternoon. Could even see little bit of sunshine along the coast and then were going to see the clouds and fog roll back in tomorrow morning. It is definitely friday light which is some good news here. Kind of been tough week on the Altamont Pass. But westbound 580, brake lights begin just past that 205 connector. Coming out of tracy this morning. Traffic right now looking okay. Stays sluggish to grant line and it speeds down to about 37 miles per hour. So not too bad. Also weve got a broken down vehicle. A stalled car, 680 southbound right at the Benicia Martinez railroad bridge there. It is over to the Left Shoulder and theres some road work on highway 4 not too far from there. Connecting on to 680.
