Good morning, it was thursday, august 20th. I am michelle griego. I am len keise. A number of new evacuation orders have been issued all over the bay area and Santa Cruz Mountains. There is another one for the entire city of healdsburg. The scu in santa clara, alameda and contra costa counties and the czu in san mateo and santa cruz counties and the l and u, which started in sonoma and not the counties and burned around yolo counties. The lnu has scorched to 24,000 acres, about a 200 square miles. There is still 0 containment. By comparison, the biggest wildfire last year burned just over 77,000 acres and that was the kincade fire in sonoma county. We have all the latest details on the fires burning around the bay area but first lets go to mary lee for the latest on this and healthy air quality. We are tracking that all for you. Unhealthy air quality for san jose, livermore and concord and very unhealthy air for vacaville. Because of this, we have another spare the air alert due to this unhealthy air and in fact this spare the air alert continues all the way until sunday. Not only catching any relief for a long time, but we are also hazy and smoky. Lets check the temperatures. Were looking at temperatures above average this time of year. It is not as hot as we have seen with that extreme heat over the last several days. It is a little cooler, slowly starting to kick in with the flow. It is 73 in San Francisco, 87 for san jose, and mid90s for concord. Some other locations of through our afternoon, looking at 96 in fairfield, fremont at 81, and looking at highs topping out at 88 for san rafael and 89 for the. I have an update on the weather conditions and where they are burning and what you can expect as we look to the weekend for details on that are coming up in a few minutes. We have some new video coming in from the Santa Cruz Mountains from overnight. This is the czu lightning complex fires. Moving into a neighborhood in bonnie. You can see it is a raging. This fire has burned 25,000 acres in the hills of santa cruz and San Mateo County in at least 20 buildings. We saw fire trucks moving into the area but it is so difficult for them to get ahead of it as quickly as it is moving and as shortstaffed as a lot of cal fire crews are. They are spread very thinly. So we saw a structure burning along umpire grade road and along the kest road. Redwood tree vegetation is burning and the winds are not helping. There are two evacuation areas set up in the fairgrounds and Civic Auditorium and in San Mateo County, people can go to the Half Moon Bay high school. In the meantime, we have more information on the others. New mandatory evacuations were ordered near st. Helena and napa county in the wake of the growing lnu fire. It includes six fires spanning several counties. The socalled spanish fire raged through the small area as the night fell, they grew worried because the fire appeared to be approaching other areas including the town here. Helena hospital was evacuated and 50 patients were at the 151 bed facility when the evacuation was ordered. They were taken to other hospitals. The flames burning and wine country jumped interstate 80 in Solano County yesterday, shutting it down for roughly 3 1 2 hours. As the fire scorches acres of land, this one was one of the many homes it took down in its path. One longtime resident i said luckily no one was living in the house. About 3 00, they came over the top of the mountain and i called and told them we will be there and he never showed. It was dc living in the Paradise Valley community in fairfield. It was horrifying. The walbridge fire is 14,000 acres and the meyers fire north of jenner stands at 2500 acres. Both are 0 contained. Cal fire crews have ordered new evacuations in santa cruz and San Mateo County. The czu lightning complex fires doubled in size. 22,000 people have been ordered to evacuate. The flames are 0 contained and have consumed at least 20 homes. Fire crews say there could be more devastation and in davenport, the winds picked up quickly as evacuation orders were extended. Some say they have all but 20 minutes to get away from the flames and others had to speed to get to a safe area. I cannot tell you how many but i know the number of people i know out here have lost their homes. This scene has no working lights but they say power has been down along this area since 5 00. Vehicles appear to be a on the side of the road, covered in ash, but there are people getting a look at the smoky coast. The number of people passing through here do not seem to understand this area is in crisis. As the fire rages, many are unsure what they will do in the next 24 hours. Were looking at temperatures a little bit cooler, and that is because of onshore flow beginning to kick in. Temperatures will be slightly cooler compared to yesterday. We still have warm conditions but not as hot as the extreme heat we have seen. It is 67 in concord, 61 in oakland, livermore is 66, mid 50s in San Francisco, and 54 for santa rosa. I want to talk about the red flag warning. We are talking about a high fire danger and with it, we are looking at a red flag warning for parts of napa, solano, sonoma, and lake county, all the way until 9 00 tonight. We are looking at gusty conditions, westerly to southwesterly up to 25 miles an hour and row humidity levels. We are watching those locations and all areas for those wildfires. We will talk about the spare the air alert. We are dealing with smoky skies because of those fires burning and unhealthy air is all the way until sunday and checking the air quality conditions this morning, unhealthy air for san jose, livermore, concord, and very unhealthy for vacaville and sensitive groups in oakland and San Francisco. It is not quite as hot as we have seen over the last several days with that strong ridge of High Pressure in place and as we look ahead to the week, we will see more clouds this weekend. We will continue with those temperatures. I do want to check the waves because it will be a breezy day with that onshore flow. This will not help firefighting efforts. We have seen those winds at 10 to 15 and 20 miles per hour. Daytime highs for the south bay are 87, looking at 95 for morgan hill, 88 for campbell and mid90s in concord, and around the bay, 73 in San Francisco, 77 for oakland and for the north bay, in the upper 80s to low 90s. Heres the extended forecast. With those temperatures, we are looking at temperatures at least nearnormal if not slightly above average over the next several days and into next week. Lets check in with gianna for a look at traffic on this thursday morning. As we take a look at the roadways, because of the various wildfires, there are a number of closures. Here is one closure on 128 in effect. It is shut down between the silverado trail all the way towards that napa county line. 121 is also affected. There are closures in and around that area. 80 east shore freeway and the upper east shore between vacaville and fairfield is open. Those lanes were shut down at one point due to the fires. We will keep a close eye on 80. There are no delays or issues right now. It should be okay at this moment. We will keep you updated. Other closures to keep in mind, ford ross road. These are parts of Solano County. This is between napa county line and mt. Pleasant. Lets move over to San Mateo County. There is a continuing closure on highway one between pescadero down to santa cruz. Pescadero creek road is also affected.
