San jose, you are in this now. Yesterday, you woke up to clear skies down here in the Santa Clara Valley. Today you are grayed over just like everybody else. And if we look at the numbers its 63 in san jose right now and 59 concord and takeaways for today . Coolest day of the week. Yes. So more light coast drizzle today. Were warming up this weekend and im going to show you low 90s coming back for inland spots by saturday and sunday. But first, its only mid 70s inland today. Lot more on this coming up in a bit. Right now, police are surrounding the santa clara coil jane after a mas in custody barricaded himself with a gun. Kpix 5s kiet do live near the scene with the very latest right now. Kiet . Reporter good morning, we got word via a tweet from the Sheriffs Office that this whole situation has resolved itself at 5 51 a. M. The suspect has peacefully surrendered after barricading himself inside a patrol car inside the jail. So theyve got us pushed back a whole block from the scene. It was an active situation [ inaudible ] so it looks like its winding down as we speak. So you are looking north on san pedro street and those flashing lights at the end are heading. Thats the exit ramp with the jail and that interior ramp drops down into the low portion of the jail where prisoners are transferred from vehicles into the building. That is where an arrestee somehow got hold of a gun. Sources tell us he fired off about five to seven shots and officers ruined fire. No one was injured. The suspect was surrounded by dozens of officers and teams and negotiators. Sources tell us this involves a San Jose Police patrol car and it is unclear how the suspect got that gun. Was it concealed somehow missed during the patdown and taken from an officer . We dont know yet but well learn more throughout the date. New details this morning from beirut. At least 100 people have beenmi explosion in in the city are inundated with around 4,000 people injured in the blast. The latest count on that shows the slight decline which is a sign of improvement. Happening today, fed up teachers in oakland head back to the classroom to prepare for the school year but its not clear for how long. Students are scheduled to return on monday but theres still no agreement on a safe reopening plan after another day of negotiations. The Teachers Association has voted to authorize a work action if the two sides cant reach a deal before monday. And its not just in oakland. Teachers in the bay area are angry and confused ability why they have to return to the classroom. [ chanting ] teachers in mill valley united last night outside of the District Office to make their demands heard. Not only do they want a safe return to school, they want to know why the district wants them to return to the classroom even for Distance Learning. The district says that its just one of many ideas on the table. This was our first Global Pandemic for everybody at this point. So i think everybody is just working it out and figuring out what works for their individual communities. With what the needs are and trying to meet the needs to help students. Teher just right now,ving nightmares about how do you start the year off as a face on the screen . But i think the safety of our kids, our families, our grandparents, the extended families, is even more important. Well, start of the school year and less than two weeks away. The district plans to have more information next thursday. In san jose, the districts more than 1600 Teachers Want the option of teaching from home. Many parents say if inperson hands on learning isnt possible, they dont really care where a teacher is. Id be more considered for the teachers and the fact that you know, if they are having to spend time on campus around others, you know, that does expose them more so than if they were able to stay home and do the same thing. No one should be forced to do anything like that. I mean, theyre risking their own health and their familys health. Facmask s n g a second ave th chance before their first fine. Under a new law passed violators will be offered a mask first and then theyll be fined only if they refuse it. Santa cruz also just ramped up its fines for people not wearing masks. Violations are no longer considered a misdemeanor. The penalty is now an infraction and first violation is a 100 fine. The second 200 and the third jumps to 500. Weve asked gently. Weve tried to use social media but now were also going to use fines in order to help people understand that the tool is important. This mask mandate will turn me into a criminal. Have to wear your mask. Because i refuse to comply with an unconstitutional law. The ways this going to work, its going to be similar to when you get a traffic ticket. Those who are cited wont need to appear in court but youd have to pay your penalty through the mail. A doctor is comparing crowds at dolores park to the show American Horror story. San francisco will struggle to get out of the 60s today and lets take one moment and just talk about where its really windy and not at all. Basically the coast its very windy. And the mountain passes, Altamont Pass which gianna will talk about in traffic report for a lot. But concord i dont want to leave you out of this. 22mile an hour gust right now for you. Meanwhile san jose, might be cloudy for you. But it is not windy. Its a 9mile an hour please and if you just look at where the colors are brightest, you come away with a good sense for why some places get really feel it. Other in the hills the winds have to speed through the passes and you feel the winds but in the valleys you dont notice it at all. All right, as far as the clouds, san jose starting out down here, weve already seen that. But if we go up were looking at gray everywhere and so much of that wind bringing the marine layer even into the central valley. You know its a strong on shore surge when our clouds are going all the way to sacramento. Doesnt happen often. It es. Some slower speeds and we have reports of a wind advisory in that area from chp. So things still pretty gusty as you head through there. Westbound highway 4 right around a street. Chp on scene working on the accident there and look like that one in the clearing stages and a look at highway 4 for the drive times. Not bad. 27 minutes from antioch to the eastshore freeway. On 80 itself you are moving at the limit at least from hercules down to the macarthur maze. soughyou will see some brake lights as the metering lights are on at the bay bridge. They were officially turned on at 6 30 this morning. Traffic backed up all the way to the foot of the maze and your approaches starting to see a few brake lights as well. And still seeing lots of volume for that ride westbound taillights headed to foster city if you are trying to connect over to 101 through the peninsula, traffic is nice through 101 as well as 880 the nimitz freeway. Thats a look at your morning drive. Cool and cloudy and yeah its been windy in the Altamont Pass, darren. 40mileperhour dusts over there. It is very windy through the passes and at the coast. But if you are in the valleyings you may not notice it all that much. This is the grayest, coolest, and windiest day of the week. And if we look at the scene from treasure island, you can barely even see the city from there. You can see the Ferry Building there. Just kind of barely down below the gray blanket. This might be one of those days ev c out of the baayer dot day like even parts of the east bay you may be looking at gray for pretty much the whole day here. Were certainly not going to see a break here at the golden gate bridge. We will get some clearing here in san jose. You didnt have any clouds yesterday at all. But today were waking up and weve got the marine layer overhead down here in the south bay. That will likely clear back by the time we get into late morning but if you are in the immediate bay, maybe not. Oakland 60 right now. San francisco 58 and santa rosa at 53. And heres how widespread all of this is. No surprise from looking at all the cameras i just showed you and every single one she had in the traffic report. All looking at gray skies except for santa rosa. Strong onshore flow past the delta into sacramento and enough of this that were getting some light misting rain out of it at the coast. And yes, even in the Berkeley Hills already seeing 0. 01 of rain being reported there. Hesitate to call that stuff rain. Really just a slow mist thats constant enough to add up to something measurable. Futurecast today. I want toplay this until we get to the 3 00 hour. You see how we still have enough of a strong onshore flow here the clouds are certainly overtaking the city and a good part of the peninsula. But even over into the east bay perhaps, never really clearing out and then it builds back in again overnight but as we get into tomorrow, heres thursday. We will burn it back to the coast and you will get sunshine. Thats why i say today is the grayest and the windiest and the coolest day in the whole 7 day forecast. Speaking of which heres the numbers. Neither getting out of the low and mid 70s here not south bay. Campbell 74 and fremont 68 and go to 72 in redwood city. Only the mid 70s here and these numbers were in the mid 90s on monday. Here we are on wednesday and its mid 70s quite the drop. 74 in danville and walnut creek 75 and livermore is going to 76. Oakland doesnt get out of the 60s all day today. Berkeley at 64 and mill valley 69. Novato 74 and 77 in santa rosa today. And a much appreciated mid 80s up in mendocino county. All right, theres the 7 day forecast. Were going to put ten degrees back on tomorrow. So tomorrow is going to feel a lot like yesterday did. Its just today where we take this extra little dip and then well be back into the low 90s for daytime highs by the time we get to the weekend inland. A suspect armed and bare kidded inside patrol car car inside the jail has given up. Word came down about the 5 51 a. M. That peacefully resolved itself. Right now the jail from the sheriffs headquarters direction. There is a ramp that had dropped down into the lower portion of the jail where prisoners are transferred into the building and thats where an arrestee somehow got ahold of a gun. Sources tell us he fired off about five to seven shots and officers then returned fire but nobody was injured. The suspect was surrounded by heavily armed Law Enforcement officers and teams and negotiators and. Sources tell us this involved a San Jose Police patrol suv and it is unclear how the suspect got ahold of the gun. Concealed somehow and missed during patdown . Forcefully taken from an officer . We dont yet know. But were hoping to get more information from the sheriff herself who is set to give a press conference at 7 00 a. M. This morning. Were live in downtown san jose, kiet do, kpix 5.
