Dwayne Michael Carrie has been on death row since 1996. He died today at a death row hospital. At least 13 other have died since june 24th. More than 1,300 prisoners and 120 Staff Members have contracted the virus. Most of them within the past two weeks alone. Its a lot of people together. Theyre not all masked. The windows are closed. The facilities are not open. And theres a lot of shouting and screaming. Which allows the droplets that the virus travels on to travel further. The prison was built in 1852, the oldest prison in the state. And its got opengrilled cells, barred cell, not closed doors. Reporter fireworks are bright and beautiful. They get their vibrant colors from metal. Now researchers at the school of medicine have found fireworks can release toxic metals into the air. I was surprised they were such high levels. Reporter the lead study author says his son, christopher, came up with the idea to study the toxicity of fireworks particles for a High School Science project. They collect particles emitted from a dozen different types of fireworks and tested them on human cells in a lab. We found high levels of lead in one of the samples. And a common metal we found was copper. At high levels. We also utitanium and aluminum. And reporter researchers also analyzed air quality samples taken over 14 years and found toxic metal levels were higher around the 4th of july and new years eve.
