Governor gavin newsom has slammed the brakes on reopening and says what happens this upcoming weekend will be critical in preventing a coronavirus catastrophe in california. The new restrictions are now affecting 19 counties including contra costa and santa clara and solano. The counties represent nearly three quarters of the states population. The order halts indoor activities, businesses including indoor restaurants, museums, zoos, and movie theaters. As cases rise, one Bay Area Health expert says the governors mandate to shut down indoor restaurants and bars will do very little to stop the spread of the virus. In Solano County socially distanced Indoor Dining has been allowed for weeks. Now the county is shifting focus. I dont think its realistic to stop the spread of covid at this point. I think what we want to do is have as little harm occur as possible while the spread is occurring. In Contra Costa CountyIndoor Dining was supposed to start last night but now owners are on hold. We start hiring people. We start different things. Ordering more product. Yeah. And then for what . For nothing. The states guidance will be in place for the next three weeks. Looking live now at san jose. There was a marathon debate last night over whether the mayor should have more power. And serve an extra two years. The city Council Agreed to send the measure to the november ballot. If approved it would allow liccardo and other mayors to sack department heads. The vote was 65. Council member jimenez voted no says quote the deal breaker for me was the expansion of the mayors authorities as the political head of the city. I believe this enhanced power will diminish my ability to serve you. Now we have asked the mayor for his take on all of this but his office said he is unavailable for comment. Developing news this morning. Some catholic churches in San Francisco are being accused of Holding IllegalChurch Services while everybody was supposed to be sheltering in place. A City AttorneyDennis Herrera sent a letter to the archdiocese saying in part they have conducted both indoor and outdoor gatherings over the past three weekends. That violate the health order and jeopardize the health and safety of san franciscans. The city received multiple complaints of several Churches HoldingIndoor Services including st. Peter and pauls church and star of the sea church. The archdiocese responded saying in part the archbishop now notified his priests the order limiting religious services to outdoors remains in force with proper social distancing and face coverings. The oakland zoo says the t break. Financial troubles relating to the pandemic could force it to close permanently. The zoo has lost 2. 5 million each month since it was ordered to close up in march. Its director says if the zoo tu endeavor for the city to take on. When we reopen, were only going to admit 50 of the attendance that we had at the same time last year. The good news is, were not really seeing needlies or troubles as you head towards the golden gate. Ongoing road work just north of the bridge near the waldo grade. Okay pace as you work through there. Usually closer to 6 00 things will get a little slower as they move the cones out of the roadway. Over to livermore we ats where our t traffic conditions are this morning. Or just a bit east of there. Coming out of tracy. Heading into that grantline area coming off of 580. Weve got the morning commute already starting here westbound 580 right around Mountain House or 205 right around there and extend at least to grantline. Looks a lot better heading to the dublin interchange with no delays there. Only about 25 minutes so still pretty quiet. Eastshore freeway a 13 minute drive time from highway 4 to the maze. And theres a crash though reported westbound 80 right at powell street. Looks like a couple of cars tangled up there. No lanes are blocked all the activity on the right shoulder and im getting a first report of a trouble spot north 880 at mowry avenue. A car hit the Center Divide and thats blocking one lane. Ill have more on that in the next report. Right now back to you. To Southern California now. Many beaches in Orange County are closing for part of the Holiday Weekend. Stacey butler has the latest on this. The beach on the fourth of july will be completely closed except for the bike path. Reporter for the first ti in history, surf city will close its beaches and parking lots for the further of july. Newport beach doing it too. After two lifeguards tested positive for covid19. 23 other lifeguards are now on quarantine. We have to protect the health and safety of our community and our employees. Our front line first responders. Its difficult for us throughout this time, the beach is kind of where i have gone to to make myself feel better. You know and just kind of bring back asee ofalcy.
