Demanding officers be held accountable for recent use of force. It comes after independent reports highlight issues within the department that were just released. A 70 page report came through after spending almost a year analyzing the Police Department. They offered 45 recommendations and demonstrators of change cannot come soon enough. I believe that they are too unhappy. The common complaint . Police unfairly target people of color. And often they use excessive force. You take them, handcuffed them and you take the men. While the shooting is under investigation city leaders released this video. The independent report l. It says the officers use force regularly. And sometimes without considering whether not it is the best response to the situation. They also say some officers received lowlevel suspensions for significant violations. Shani williams says he is already on summoning some of those recommendations. We have a welldefined de escalation policy. We also now have a stronger and more robust camera policy requiring activation. It increases transparency for our department. Some of the partners are caused by staffing shortages. They say officers are overworked and underpaid. They say the department is male dominant. Female officers account for less than 10 of the force. One recommendation is to do better at recruiting and of c ting females. The independent report says if you want to get rid of the Police Department they must spend more money not less. Authority say a total of six fires were set. The first three happened last night in the marsh area. Crews were quickly able to contain those fires. Just before 6 am residents reported a fire and looks burrs this fire burn approximately one half acre and prompted the evacuation of about 20 homes on Authorities Say a short time later more vegetation fires were reported.
