A huge group of protesters on the move right now in san jose. Good evening, im ken bastida. And im elizabeth cook. They just arrived at the home of mayor sam liccardo. They started gathering a couple of hours ago and marching at liccardos home. The group is making a plea for the city to divert funding from the Police Departments and invest it into Community Programs instead. They say it will all stay peaceful but it is unclear how long they plan to stay in front of liccardos home. Well have much more on this story coming up tonight at 11 00. A live look at San Francisco city hall. A protest there just wrapping upright now. Chopper 5 was overhead when the group was gathering this afternoon. At one point, some front Warriors Office execs stopped by to show their support. All of this was organized by the naacp of oakland. They plan to march to the hall of justice tonight. Outdoor dining is now allow to resume in San Francisco. Many restaurants opened their doors today to hungry customers, all while maintaining the proper social distancing, of course. There are social distancing hedge to keep the picnic tables apart so people can actually sit down in a restaurant and eat a meal. Outside north beachs cafe, tables are on the street. The smallest glimpse of normalcy in the very social neighborhood since coronavirus restrictions began. Just up the street, the owner of tupalo says the city and states permitting processes arent clear or working. Theres an Additional Fire permit. I went to the Fire Department today to try to get a permit to put some heat lamps out in the new seating area which im supposed to be allowed to have. They werent accepting permits. We heard some Restaurant Owners in sacramento may have not had problems with city permits but problems with abc alcoholic Beverage Control stopping by and issuing warnings if those permits werent properly filed and issued. Some shopping malls are also reopening in the bay area and that means a new type of retail experience. This is what it looks like at the sun valley mall in concord. Shoppers must wear a face mask if they want to enter. There are also social distancing and sanitizing protocols in place. As soon as i heard the mall is reopening, it was great news to my ears. We were excited that we can get a little bit of normalcy with all this thing happening right now. But yeah, we were excited. In sonoma county, all types of tasting rooms are back open including wineries, breweries, and distilleries. Before today, only tasting rooms that served food were able to reopen. And campgrounds and 29 state parks are already reopened. Sites at big basin redwoods, halfmoon bay and lake tahoe. Hayward is trying to recover from a coronavirus outbreak that affected three dozen hospital workers in may. They are following cdc guidelines. The hospital stopped admitting most new patients and testing those who come in, but some nurses believe the facility could do more. One nurse was not infected but found out about the outbreak through her coworkers rather than management. The surprise and anger comes from people in charge, not taking into account that we mattered, too, as health care providers. We no longer at this particular moment are accepting emergency patients but we are taking cardiac patients. Half of the infected workers have recovered and are clear to come back to work. They dont know when they will accept any new patients. The u. S. Air force sergeant accused of ambushing and killing a Santa Cruz County deputy was formally charged with murder today. And the charges in his 19 felony indictment could make this a Death Penalty case. Security at the Santa Cruz County courthouse was tight. Police snipers were on the roof and the front was blocked. But the suspect, steven corea only appeared on a video call. He is being held for his own safety. He allegedly opened fire on officers responding to a 911 call from his property saturday afternoon. One was killed, one wounded, a civilian ended up capturing in the end trying to steal a get away car. He was an active Duty Air Force sergeant who served in iraq, afghanistan, and syria. He has suffered extreme personal loss, family loss in the last several years, and he has also suffered a traumatic brain injury in the past. We are going to be looking into his connections, if any, to other groups. The mercury news reported he could be tied to the killing of a federal Security Guard in oakland on may 29th. A push today for San Jose Police to change their tactics during protests. Hundred of protesters shared their experiences during a Virtual City Council meeting saying they were shot with rubber bullets and tear gas, the police chief has since issued a ban on rubber bullets to disperse crowds but the activists want the city to divert funding to Community Programs. We witnessed an unarmed man shot at and tackled for god knows what. Somehow my mom got shot with a rubber bullet. This is important work and it doesnt get done overnight and there are no simple fixes. Theres hard work to be done ahead. In oakland, mayor libby schaaf had this to say about the current challenges the city is facing with policing. We recognize that experience, the layers of discrimination, of disenfranchisement is on top of this unacceptable culture of police violence. The mar mayor also drew upon a new budget proposal. The city of San Francisco has agreed to move Homeless People in tents out of the tenderloin. Uc hastings sued the city weeks ago appealing to improve sanitation and reduce overcrowding on the sidewalks during the pandemic. The city plans to move 70 of the areas Homeless Population into hotels or safe sleeping sites by july 20th. In concord, it will be a breezy evening overall and it is pushing the low cloud cover and fog back into the region of the bay right now, but it will move inland as we head through rest of the night. A cool breezy saturday on the way. Temperatures below average for one more day before we warm up on sunday. Pleasantly warm weather sunday. It will be warmer the second half of the weekend, right now as we look to the east from our Sales Force Tower camera, you can see the low loud cover moving in. Everybody is in the 60s. Anywhere from 60 on the button to 68 degrees in concord. Whole different story than those warm to hot temperatures that we had inland earlier in the week. Temperatures tonight drop back down into the 50s in most locations. The very coolest spots in the north bay dipping into the upper 40s. Wind gusts throughout the day arent going to be as strong as they were today. By noon already approaching 20 miles an hour, again, these are the strongest winds that we will experience. Not the sustained winds hour to hour. But, when ever the wind gets a little more feisty, we could get in the 25 to 30 miles an hour range. Good day to keep both hands on the wheel when you will be out and about. I think everybody is a good day to keep both hands on the wheel. Mid to upper 60s around the bay. Very similar temperatures to today. Low to mid 70s further inland. The very warmest spots in the upper half of the 70s. Barely struggling up to around 60 degrees. The warmer weather settles in next week and it will stick around through next weekend. There is a significant chance of above average temperatures through next weekend. Mid to upper 80s to around 90. A live look at the white house. The Trump Administration changed a rule blocking protections for transgender under the Affordable Care act. The law will no longer cover transgender people. It erases an Obama Administration policy that made it illegal for Health Care Workers to deny care on the basis of gender identity. The health and Human Services department will start enforcing the new law in 60 days. Todays finalization of the rule is not only poorly timed but shows a lack of humanity by the administration and could impact lives. This doesnt change the law, but it changes how the health and Human Services department views and enacts the law.
