Reporter how demonstrators were handled against Police Brutality this past week. Some say their crowd control methods crossed the line. Tonight thousands showed their support for george floyd and the black lives Matter Movement outside city hall. Demonstrators later marched to the San Jose Police department. It was a calmer scene than what we saw one week ago. Violence and an unrest in downtown san jose. There had been a lot of concerns here locally about when police had used tear gas, when they had used rubber bullets, whether or not there was an excessive use of force. Reporter today the mayor said in a Facebook Live address hes introducing a proposal to the city council. Asking the Police Department to share criteria for crowd use of projectiles such as rubber bullets, and reform use of force policies. Reporter and two things can be true. There are protesters who are peacefully here, who are daunted and intimidated by seeing police in riot gear and feel as though their rights are infringed by the heavy police presence. At the same time these same officers, they are taking it in every direction with bottles, rockets, everything else. They deserve to go home safely to their families. Today the chief said we have already begun to evaluate how we deal with crowd control situations. To include how we deploy and the osal isct weapons approved, we would need to get Community Feedback surrounding potential reforms. The California Attorney general has launched an investigation into the vallejo Police Department announcing a full review of the use of deadly force. This after several Police Shootings including the death of shawn monterosa on tuesday. The 22yearold was shot as Police Arrived at a walgreens after reports of looting. He was kneeling just outside that store when an officer shot him, saying he thought a hammer in his pocket was a gun. The review will recommend improvements for use of force procedure, antibias and community policing, acould want ability by focusing of training, community expectations. Tonight several cities in the east bay have become the last in the bay area to lift curfew orders despite ongoing protests. Reporter as each day passes these protests are becoming more and more peaceful without the violence and the looting. Cities like walnut creek and others are lifting their curfews to allow these protesters to rally. A large crowd marched from concord to downtown clayton, chanting all the way to the grove. It was there all the protesters got down on one knee to honor the lives lost for what they call racial Police Brutality. This has been amazing. I mean nothing, but peaceful. I feel incredibly welcomed. Att i was very enraged. T. The clayton resident and his family were at the protest earlier this week. He said police only moved in to disperse a black lives matter protest, just around the time of the 6 00 curfew. There were about 30 people who were antiprotesters, allowed to stay while they were tear gassed and sent home. It is very upsetting. And he believes tuesday nights protest would have ended the way this one would have ended tonight if police didnt move in to enforce the curfew. The rally ended peacefully. I used to believe the tide had turned already. Then i looked ge i really hope this is the beginning of something different. And he did address why the police targeted the blm protesters on tuesday. In mill valley a big crowd came out to protest and march for the black lives Matter Movement. Demonstrators held signs, chanting, while they blocked the street. Cars lined the streets and people were seen going store to store. Not every Business Owner has been rejoicing just yet. Reporter but eager customers discovered not all businesses allowed to reopen are rushing. I went to gilroy, the outlets. There were only five stores out of the 170 stores. A lot of us think these restrictions are being loosened and businesses are going to be excited. Business owners will be excited, but thats not really the case, right . No unfortunately we just dont have enough space. Reporter and Restaurant Owners who dont have patios and adjacent parking lots or property say outdoor seating may do more harm than good. I would have to invest in canopies, disinfecting, the different protocols we would have to put in to place. I would probably have to staff somebody. Reporter restrictions may be lifting, but not the financial burden the pandemic is still causing. As these restrictions went in to place, how do address them and manage them and still say successful. And with people like younger generations on the front lines. Heather jansen reporting. Now crews have extinguished the fires at the theater this evening. The theater opened in the 1940s. Closed back in 1982, but it has been preserved since then. 40 firefighters arrived to fight those flames. The fire spread in caused baony to collapse into lobby. The 73yearold theater the blic de ew thethrough the theater foundation. The walls of the theater are murals, black lives murals, one of the first murals, of the black light in Northern California. They were created by anthony who was a famous muralist. It is multigenerational heartbreak. And now the fire crews will remain on scene until tomorrow, monitoring hot spots. Fairfield fire crews have obtained a brush fire this evening. The fire burned 117 acres, threatening 12 homes. Smoke could be seen throughout the area thanks to a quick response. In San Francisco a brush fire prompted evacuations today. Crews went door to door telling residents to get out as the fire grew to two and a half acres. The flames left behind a charred hillside near connecticut and wisconsin streets. Residents are now allowed to return home. Parts of the beach board walk will reopen for visitors. Starting tomorrow some food concessions and the retailers will be welcoming customers including the coast restaurant. With a famous wooden roll coaster.
