A Police Motorcycle is apparently leading these marchers. We estimated the crowd to be about 2,000 and we spoke to some of them before they set off. Andrea . Reporter allen, the town square is relatively empty right now, but most people have taken off for the evening, but there are still a few in front of the fox theatre in what has become a tribute to victims of Police Brutality. Breonna taylor, Stephon Clark and orrs are all named here. In the square between the museum and the fox theatre, thousands gathered to honor the memory of george floyd. When i watched the video, all i can do is why didnt jump in . Why didnt somebody Say Something . This has touched all of us. This has ignited the whole country to see that poor man on the ground. It is just awful. You cant even have words for it. Reporter the crowd, the diversity of the people in the crowd, young, old, white and people of color gives then hope. Everything that you see right before your eyes hope for the future. I see a group of passionate, passion driven young people coming together to achieve a higher purpose, and that is to address this issue of Police Brutality in our local communities. I see bag im seeing here, feeling the love and community that i have here, it is things that is world changing. So im to say the least, my gratitude is beyond words. Reporter one thing that stood out in the sweltering sun is redwood citys police department. They were not decked out in riot gear and battle armor. We deliberately were very strategic that we want people to feel they can come in, that they can be welcomed in our square that is what our square was built for, to celebrate and to also have people come and gather to talk about difficult issues and if they do it peacefully, it is theirs. Were glad theyre here. Im glad youre here. I want other communities to know it can be done peacefully with respect and dignity. This was a very, very peaceful protest here in the redwood city town square. There is a curfew tonight here in san mateo community. It starts at 8 30 00 p. M. And itities through tomorrow night as well. Live in redwood city this evening, kpix 5. In fremont, protestors took their message directly to police in a fourmile march through the city. The facetoface discussion at Police Headquarters followed a nearly nineminute moment of silence at city hall. Despite the june heat, the march drew hubs, all aches, all backgrounds. I am out here because i am 73 years old and i have seen this kind of madness for far too long. It is time. It really is. Nobody is asking to get away with anything, justice. Equal for all. Chopper 5 was also over protests that just wrapped up earlier this evening in vallejo, in marin city and along the great highway. Meanwhile in oakland, city leaders pegged yesterdays rally and march at 15,000 people. It was organized by students at oakland tech, but grew to include thousands from the community. It was an impressive scene as the huge group then marched downtown. Later on in the evening the situation turned tense. Police firing nonlethal weapons to clear a very different crowd. In all Police Issued 60 citations. Were in a moment of National Anger about the abuse of police force and governmental authority. And so we take the use of force in this moment, especially serious. And right now napa county is the latest to announce a curfew starting at 8 00. Curfews are also in effect in antioch and san leandro. They are just starting now in pleasant hill. Most other curfews start at 8 00 or 8 30, we have a full list at kpix. Com. Santa clara county was the first to impose a shelter in place. It is one of the last to begin loosening its restrictions. Starting friday restaurant also be allowed to welcome backus tommers for outdoor dining. This area alone about 80 to 90 guests that we can accommodate and then we have the outdoor plaza that can accommodate 100 so were hoping to get close to that number. The order also allows in store Retail Shopping with proper social distancing, and churches can once again hold their services if they can figure out how to do it outside. Tonight we are learning more about the bay area federal Security Guard who was killed in the driveby shooting in oakland. David Patrick Underwood was gunned down while guarding the Federal Building during friday nights protests in the city. Today his friends and family passed out masks in honor of the 53yearold. Reporter were in downtown clayton and we have just wpsed a very short switchish a pretty powerful one. You can see the Police Officers here. They are actually resting after what was a pretty tense stand off, although a very polite one. It was very unique situation, to be honest, as we watched a crowd of about 100 young people, many of then tapings, demonstrating peacefully and then 6 00 came. The police gave the signal and told them to disperse. They waited. They gave them another 10 minute warning. Everything was polite on each side. And then, i dont know if you can see this video, they started throwing smoke grenades to break up the crowd. Much of the crowd backed upped a they were kicking it back and forth like a soccer game. They threw some more grenades. Once somebody would try to kick it back, the police were using nonlethal weapons, and they were able to move them after the property and on to the street. It was a very peaceful demonstration. It was a very polite but forceful move on the part of police. But then they gave them one more washing and then they moved in to the crowd. Again, i would say the majority of the crowd, takes, a couple dozen, stayed in there and said were not moving, and they knelt down and that is when the police threw smoke grenades and eventually tear gas, which, i thought we werent going to get in the middle of it because we were sort of on the eckes, but the tear gas got any my photographer pretty good and we moved out. In some cases parents were waiting to put the kids in the car after what they were hoping would be a peaceful protest, but it ended up with a little bit of shock there at the end. A strange moment in clayton. Reporting live, im joe vazquez, kpix 5. Switching gears, new information tonight on a fiery chopper crash in fairfield that killed three people on board. The chopper wept went down in the hills off of i80 in fairfield. Were learning the helicopter was contracted by pg e to work on high voltage lines. Reporter Marissa Pearlman has the story. Reporter lingering smoke in the hoer don here. Were told that is where this crash happened up on Blue Mountain road. Were still waiting on confirmation at this hour. We want to show you video of the scene here which shows you what is left of this chopper. It is a bell 206 chopper. We learned it was contracted by pg e and three people on board were working for the company. The crash happened after the crew was working on high voltage line. Pg e cult pow tore the lines and 3 8,000 people in the area are without power. No word yet on when that will be restored. Cal fire confirm as water tanker, which was responding to this crash and this fire rolled over on its way up through some of these remote hills here after the crash. Three people were on board that tanker at the time. They are okay. Cal fire reporting all of them suffering just minor injuries. Once again, were hearing three people dead on board that chopper all working for pg e, were waiting on confirmation from the Sheriffs Office on that tonight. Kpix 5. It is a pretty evening. A nice clear view of mount diablo. It is 90 degrees on the nose in concord that is warm for this time of the evening for this time of year. 88 in santa rosa. Temperatures tonight will back off but it is going to take a while. Were still an hour away from the sunset at this point. Then we lose todays heat once the sun goes down. Temperatures starting off in the low to mid 60s. Were going to end up anywhere from 13 to 22 degrees above average so were talking temperatures in the 70s, 80s, 90s and even low 100s. Low 0s is about 10 degrees below normal for you. Father inland in the santa clara valley, closer to 100 degrees. The hot spots are going to be father inland in the east bay. The delta reaching up to or above 100 degrees. It will be awfully close to 100 on either side. And then were talking upper 0s. Low to mid 90s. Common for the north bay. And how about 100 degrees for cloverdale. Even with the hot weather, the only spot that really looks like it will be close to a record tomorrow will be concord reaching 101 while the record is 102 degrees. More bad news for allen. It looks like the pollen will be up in the medium do high category, just be prepared for it. Temperatures are going to back off after thursday down to slightly below average temperatures over the weekend. Even a slight chance of a shower over saturday. Here is a live look at washington, d. C. Where a large group of protestors are gathered in front of the white house. They are violating a curfew. The criticism comes after peaceful protestor across from the white house were forcefully dispersed by federal authorities. The president and first lady visited the shrine dedicated to Pope John Paul ii. That visit drew criticism from the arch bishop of washington. President trump has threatened state governors that he will send in the u. S. Military to stop violent protests and riots. I think that the law allows the president to invoke the insurrection act. Mean while, George Floyds death prompted the state of minnesota to file a civil rights charge against the entire Minneapolis Police department. The resulting investigation will exam n. P. Six atlanta Police Officers are facing Assault Charges tonight. This video allegedly shows them tasking two College Students and then dragging them out of a scar during a protest on saturday. Solano county has declared an emergency and ordered a countywide curfew after crowds of people stormed and looted stores in fairfield. The video shows moments the looters used a forklift to break into the best buy. The curfew goes into effect at 8 00 tonight. Tonight san franciscobased online retailer stitch fix is laying off 1,400 stylists here in california. Employees are being offered the chance to move to a new location to keep their jobs. The company will be hiring 2,000 workers in less expensive cities like dallas and minneapolis. Up next, these two bay area bridge babies now a live look at downtown oakland now where protestors are on the move. This is one of many demonstrations we have seen across the bay area today. This group has about 30 minutes to clear out that is when the citys curfew does take effect. We saw earlier in clayton with joe vazquez the police breaking up that protest right when the curfew hit. Finally tonight, a live look at the san mateo bridge where two little kittens were found abandoned in a box and now lucy and liam, there they are. Will each be adopted. An alert driver found them on the bridge back in april.
