Now at 11 00, complete chaos in minneapolis tonight where huge fires are raging amid protest of the death of a black man at the hands of the police. We will take you to minneapolis for the latest development. Protests across the country. One here in oakland as they take a stand against Police Brutality and the death of george floyd. How the police are preparing for protests. Push back at a nursing home where more than a dozen people have died. Tonight residents describe the conditions, they say, were a recipe for disaster. Seven people have been shot during a protest in louisville. This is video from earlier in the evening as demonstrators took to the streets outraged over the shooting death of breona taylor. Taylor was killed in march as officers served a search warrant. One person is in Critical Condition after tonights shooting. Not clear who fired the shots. Meanwhile in minneapolis tonight, protesters set fire to a police precinct. It is the third night of angry demonstrations over the death of george floyd. Officers had already abandoned the building. Floyd died on monday after an officer knelt on his neck. All four officers were fired. Protesters are demanding criminal charges. A bit earlier crowd set fire to a car in a target parking lot. Dozens of businesses have been looted and vandalized and tonight governor tim waltz activated National Guard as the protest spread into neighboring st. Paul. We go to downtown oakland where dozens of demonstrators marched this afternoon as well in a show of solidarity. Reporter unlike some of the images we have seen coming out of minneapolis this was, for the most part, a peaceful protest. The city of oakland is warning the community of a larger event scheduled for tomorrow. What do we want . Justice. Reporter 50 protesters went through the streets of oakland. First they shutdown grand avenue offramp of 980 where traffic came to a crawl. Next stop, Oakland Police department. This protest was sparked by the death of 46yearold george floyd as a Minneapolis Police officer pressed his knee on his neck for several minutes. Protesters are concerned incidents of Police Brutality against africanamerican men continue to happen. It is scary. I fear for my life. I have friends with kids, i have cousins, i fear for all young black mens life. Releasing a video statement speaking out against the officers involved in floyds death. We stand with all in our community who have traditionally been marginalized oppressed and who have been harmed by our systems and institutions. These activists shutdown major incidents not a single arrest as they made their way to city hall. It needs to be peaceful, it needs to be angry, though, because that is what we are. Reporter Oakland Police ramped up their staffing. The city of oakland sent out a notice to residents about the likelihood of more protests occurring in the coming days as anger builds in communities across the country. We have got to do better to restore the beloved community that we all deserve to live in. Tomorrows protest is scheduled to be here at the plaza in front of city hall. That protest will start at 8 00. In oakland. Back to you. In columbus, ohio, protesterred chanted and held signs as the police looked on. One of many protests held from coast to coast. In los angeles demonstratorred marched from santa monica to venice. In new york five were arrested for civil disobedience in union square. In denver, ducking for cover after gunfire erupted near the Colorado State capitol. No word on any injuries. New video shows protesters briefly occupying the Hayward Police station tonight. They are angry over two Police Shootings in the span of a week in their community in the latest incident the suspect admits he provoked the gunfire. Protesters shutdown a street tonight some, of the anger stemming from a confrontation yesterday that was captured on cell phone video. We want to warn you the images are graphic. [screaming] 61yearold man was hit with a taser and then gunfire. Officer body camera video shows the suspect brandishing a wife, being aggressive, neighbors say the police were too quick to fire their guns. He has already been released from the hospital. He is facing charges of assault with a deadly weapon. The police chief says he has apologized and admitted it was his fault. Tonight, San Francisco announcing a new time line to get the city up and running. With that, officials are also tightening restrictions on face coverings. Y ou will be required to wear face coverings outside within 30 feet of people. The mandate here. The reopening dates now on the calendar, june 1st, Botanical Gardens and retail will reopen. Then, june 15th we can see in door retail religious services and even sporting events without fans. The reopening has been show and it has been safe because the purpose is to keep the public healthy. Starting july 13th indoor restaurant dining, hair salons, barbershops can reopen. Sometime in midaugust the reopening of schools, bars, nail salons, gyms, playgrounds and in door museums. Also tonight, families of residents at a Skilled Nursing home are demanding it be shutdown. More than 100 residents there tested positive for the coronavirus. Kpix5 is in vallejo with the mounting concerns about this facility. Reporter like many nursing homes, this care center has been fighting a desperate battle against the coronavirus and is losing. The Health Officials now report 16 people have died from covid 19 here. 112 residents tested positive as have 34 staff members. A group of family members have been protesting for weeks. Some of them started a petition asking the governor to shut the facility down. I believe my brothers death could have been prevented had they taken proper precautions. Reporter her brother had been in the facility since last year after suffering a stroke. The coronavirus killed him on may 13th. The patient that was in his room who was coughing did not have on a mask nor was my brother offered a mask or had a mask. There are things they could of done to prevent the deaths. Reporter state Health Officials just issued brandnew guidelines showing every nursing home has to test every staff member and patient once a week. In fact that is what they are doing here and they are keeping covid19 residents separated from those testing negative. Staffers are isolated as well. And Contact Tracing is being done to curve the spread of the virus. We reached out through their attorney and so far, no response. In vallejo, kpix5. A stunning announcement from the sheriff. He says his deputies will not be enforcing what he calls quote inconsistent and l logical restrictions on businesses and residents. They ordered a two week pause on reopening citing an uptick in hospitalizations. One merchant we spoke to says he is ready to reopen he understands the call for caution. We want to be safe, you know. It is not worth someone dying. We are looking forward to things being lifted and continue to be really careful. County supervisor called the sheriffs comments quote tone deaf. She says she plans on calling him to explain himself to the full board on tuesday. President trump is taking aim at silicone valley. Tonight, kpix5 is in san jose with the new executive order targeting one of the president s favorite platforms. Reporter President Trump is targeting the platform he uses often to reach out to his more than 80 million followers. The executive order he signed today aims at making social media giants crack down on its users like him. Sanfrancisco couple stood outside twitters headquarters with a message for its ceo. If an average user on twitter were to say half of the things that trump says, we would fi our account suspended. Reporter but the president sent a different message today. You are going to have a guy like this be your judge and jury . I think you shut it down as far as i am concerned. Reporter trump signed an executive order to review a 25 yearold law that shields web sites. It comes after they flagged mr. Trump. They have a shield, they can do what they want. The zip code more than any in the county at 290. Serious doubts about the effectiveness of the Antibody Tests for coronavirus. Cdc is now saying that they could be wrong up to half the time. We have the growing medical battle. We feel really lucky that we recovered. Reporter lisa wagner and her mother fell ill from coronavirus in march. In april they had Antibody Tests before visiting her elderly parents. They came back positive. Many people want the tests and major Testing Companies including quest are offering them. Quest launched a program this week for employers that is called return to work. Including the Antibody Tests. And the tests are useful. Once we identify a person who has a positive Antibody Test and we determined that they are not currently infected with the virus, we now know that person is very unlikely to bring the virus with them into the workplace. Reporter quest is now offering Antibody Tests on demand to consumers on its web site for 119 and a 10 fee. Marketing emails like this one the company adults it an immune response blood test and understanding this gives you insight if it is right to return to work, school and activity. A prominent la physician and researcher says these tests could give people false confidence. The problem with coronavirus you can have antibodies but they are the wrong ones, it does not mean they neutralize which means block and it does not mean you get immunity. Reporter with the warning they could be wrong up to half the time there is concern that results may not be helpful. I dont want people taking a test and coming back positive and saying hey, i have been exposed and i go and play and hug grandma because you may deliver the virus to grandma.
