In san pedro square, a surprising thing started happening that caught managers by surprise. The hardest thing is getting employees to come back because they are making more money on unemployment. Reporter in some cases, a lot more. Which is unbelievable. Reporter Natalie Matheson was laid off in early march from her job as a hostess in Hotel Restaurant but being unemployed is far from the hardship she was expecting. Its wonderful because they are giving me a lot of income, more so than if i was working right now. Reporter she qualified for state unemployment which pays 200 a week, then came the federal stimulus bill which brings in another 600 a week on top of that. I making a decent amount on unemployment so i have thought should go back to work, when should i go back, is it worth it . Basically anyone in california who is earning less than 43 or 44,000 a year is collecting more on unemployment insurance. Reporter and employment Attorney Says workers can enjoy the benefits, until they are offered their old jobs back, because of the pandemic, there is a new twist. Santa clara county is performing fewer than 2000 has per day, recorded its greatest daily total on may 14 with 1897 tests. The numbers have been declining ever since which explains the mayors message and except for a lucky few, the bottleneck. It was very easy, we just login yesterday into the internet and they had appointments for this location and it was super easy. Reporter the county health permits as they are working with partners scribbling right now to fix the problems that we brought to their attention, also every Health Expert agrees that testing is critical and you have to know who is infected if you ever want to have a hope of containing the spread of this virus and if you turn people away at testing sites or make it virtually impossible for them to book an appointment online, you might not get those people back.
