Though some say theyve been told to keep quiet. And spirit of giving. Tyler perry explain yes he has been so generous during this crisis and why he hopes others will do the same. First, heres todays eye opener, your world in 90 seconds. Given the fact that the sun is out, it would be really human for us to take our foot off the pedal here. But that is just too dangerous. There are signs the curve may be flattening. Fewer people are being admitted to the hospital but more people are still dying each day. That means what were doing is working and, therefore, we need to continue to do it. New yorks governor reporting a record high number of new covid19 deelts amid the surge in fatalities, more bodies are being buried on new yorks heart island. We lose 2753 lives on 9 11. Weve lost over 7,000 lives through this crisis. I think the economy is going to do very well. Now thats just my feeling. Its a strong feeling. 6. 6 million americans filed for unemployment. The Federal Reserve announced 2. 3 trillion of programs. Keeping this economy afloat. I say cheers. Hundreds of buildings across the country lighting up in blue. We have money on the walls and time on our hands. And all that matters. If youre observing passover, youre holding a seder. A lot of people are hosting their seder on zoom. Tonight was the traditional prayer of, nana, youre muted. On cbs this morning. I know people who are having virtual seder and easter dinners which is the best we can, do i guess, but also very weird. Its odd to end a Holiday Family dinner by pressing leave meeting. Easter doesnt feel at all exciting this year. Probably because ive spent the last three weeks driving around looking for eggs already. Thodays eye opener presented by toyota. Welcome to cbs this morning on this good friday. Were broadcasting from our homes bringing you the news. Though it will be much different this easter weekend for all of us. Jimmy kimmel said it right, anthony. He said this is all very weird. I have to say thank god its friday took on a whole different meaning for me today. How about you . But my wife did say to me last night, can we get the family together on zoom on sunday . And i was like thats just so weird. But its we saw so many people did it for passover with the seder. So im going to consult some of my jewish friends and say, how do you make this work . Tony, its very reassuring to see peoples faces. It is. Were not together but its reassuring. It does help. I think that matters. Certainly helps. We begin today it really does. We begin with an alarming new milestone right here in america. New york state now has more reported coronavirus cases than any country in the world. Let that sink in. New pictures are a disturbing reminder of the human toll of that. This is a mass grave being dug for coronavirus victims at potters field where unclaimed bodies are laid to rest. Its a reminder that the poorest and most marginal are bearing the greatest burden in this crisis. Its a widening crisis. More than 466,000 covid cases reported nationwide. And the death toll is now well above 16,000. But there are signs of improvement. Hospital admissions from the virus are declining in new york and california, two of the hardest hit states. Our lead National CorrespondentDavid Begnaud is here in new york at the u. S. Naval hospital ship the comfort. Good morning. Weve been hearing about deadliest days in new york for several days in a row. But we may be hearing hitting a turning point, turning a corner . How so . Maybe so. Let me tell you why. In speaking with one of the commanders on the ship, i said, how come youve only treated 100 patients when you have capacity for so much more . He said, sir, were just not getting that many patients coming to us. The need doesnt exist. We called the Governors Office. The Governors Office told us there are 90,000 hospital beds statewide because theyve had to add so many in recent weeks but only 18,000 of them are actually filled. So, yeah, this is really good news. But every time we get good news like that it seems to be said right alongside something thats stunning. Like this. So many people are dying in new york city due to coronavirus complications that the morgues are crowded. To the point where new graves are being dug off heart island near the bronx. Crews are burying unclaimed bodies that have been at the morgue for more than two weeks. Still, the states new hospitalizations are the lowest they have been since the Coronavirus Crisis started. And icu admissions are at their lowest level in more than three weeks. All of this data suggests that we are flattening the curve so far. And thats why one place that was supposed to be a Field Hospital is scaling back. Beds had been set up two days ago at this manhattan cathedral. Theyve been packed away. Meanwhile, logistical issues appear to be part of the reason why the 500bed hospital ship comfort has treated only 80 patients so far. What do you say to people in manhattan who are looking at this saying, youve got this big beautiful ship with a lot of room and its empty . The optics may not be great . Weve been working with the city of new york, fema, any Disaster Emergency Response takes a little bit from a coordination perspective. Reporter there are moments of joy happening around the country. In missouri, 87yearold Don Lockmiller has survived the coronavirus. He spent ten days in the hospital and is now home. The virus continues to spread in the midwest. In michigan, the number of deaths in a single day was expected to peak on thursday. Detroit nurse jennifer ralko saw three bodies taken to the morgue in one shift. Thats a bad day, but unfortunately, there are days that that has become a normal. Reporter in flint, michigan, sandy brown lost her husband freddy brown jr. And her 20yearold son. They both died from the coronavirus in a span of just three days. They are two of four parishioners from pastor kiemba knowlins church that died this month. Speechless. I get a little emotional because of the effects that is happening in america, but then come again, here it is in the black community. Reporter freddy iii hoped to walk onto the Michigan State football team. His dad helped to organize church services. Heres an example of our new normal in america. L bury her so husband. Groundsmen will carry their caskets to the grave while sandy is asked to sit in her car and watch. Anthony . David, thank you. And as you alluded to, theres new evidence that the virus has had a troubling racial impact. An Associated Press analysis of nearly 3300 coronavirus patients who died found 42 of them were africanamerican. Blacks only make up about 21 of the total population in that study. Reporter councilman Darrell Clarke says there are many reasons people of kocolor of bearing the brunt of covid19. You look at all the structural issues around the health care inequalities, lower income jobs. It tends to impact individuals in neighborhoods of color a lot more than it does in other neighborhoods. Reporter and clarke says people of color tend to be on the front lines with jobs leaving them exposed. We have individuals that are working in these jobs in retail, in supermarkets, in stores around that are still allowed to be open. Those people have to deal with the public on a consistent basis. They are more likely to come in contact with somebody that may be affected than other people. Were also told generalized mistrust in the government from generations are feeling marginalized, may be playing a role of why its more difficult to get these messages to minority groups which is why you see folks like Majeedah Rashid using phone banks to speak to the elderly. They just want to hear a trusted local voice and they are afraid right now. You can understand that, errol. Thank you very much. Lets get clarity on a variety of issues from dr. David agus who is going to join us from his home in los angeles. Dr. Agus, good morning. I want to start with something that came out of the White House Coronavirus briefing yesterday. The president himself did not think we need widespread testing. That seems to contradict the advice of many of his medical experts. From your perspective, from where youre sitting, what do we need to have in place from a testing perspective before we lift the social distancing guidelines at the end of the month . Were going to need three things. One is were going to need the ability to do millions of tests a week. And that word was right. Millions of tests. When we open up, there are still going to be cases. We also need to do what we call immune surveillance. Thats a blood test to see whether you actually have the virus or not. So not whether you have it. Thats the dna test or rna test. But actually whether you have it. And then the third is we need to do social tracing. That is, we need the ability if you do test positive to go back and say, who did you interact with over the past few days because those people need to be kept at home. And so when you have three of them in place and low numbers of cases, were going to be able to let people out in a graded way and well get back to a new normal. But we need those in place. How much progress have we made to having those in place . Are they in place today . Well, we are getting a capacity of tests. Were not there yet with testing who has the virus. We have a ways to go. There was data that the abbott machines are out there but not everybody is using them yet. So the infrastructure needs to grow to do the test. The tests for who had the virus in the past tense, that blood test, were nowhere with it. We really have not scaled that across the country and theres a couple of small tests being done, but very little. The idea of social tracing, well have to talk about privacy issues going forward. Do you need to know who i interact with over the last two days . I think you do to do true social distancing quarantining of those individuals. Those conversations have to start happening now and technologies have to be scaled. On the subject of immunity, what are we learning about whether once youve had this, if you recover, can you get it a second time . Its a great question. And there is data that came out of south korea that showed that individuals who had it tested negative twice. Then tested positive again. So was it a false negative on the test . Did the virus reactivate . Their answer is we just dont know. Theres a separate study out of china which i think was really illuminating in that they looked at the level of immunity in the blood of people. About 30 didnt have enough immunity after they recovered from the virus. And most of those were the younger ones with the milder symptoms. So what does that mean in the scale of things . We just dont know yet and those studies while in south korea and china, we need them to be done here in the United States. Its time now we started to do our own studies and had our own data so we can make the right decisions based on that data. All right. Dr. David agus, progress clearly has been made but theres still more ground to cover. Appreciate your perspective. Gayle, back to you. Boy, tony. So much unknown, and the unknown is so scary. The Economic Impact of the coronavirus is getting worse every single day affecting households all over this country. The newest numbers reveal that 6. 8 million americans have filed for Unemployment Benefits since midmarch. And that nearly wipes out the more than 18 million jobs created in the past 11 years. Thats the largest and fastest string of u. S. Job losses in generations. You can see the damage almost everywhere you look. Seemingly endless mass of cars lined up at the San Antonio Food Bank just yesterday. It served around 10,000 families. Staff say they are struggling to keep up with the rise in demand. Weve also heard from florida residents who waited to pick up unemployment papers this week from a popup drivethrough in hialeah. Its tough. It is tough. As of now, im living day by day. I have savings, but theres so much money you can use. The United Nations has locked down measures around the world affect nearly 2. 7 billion workers. Anthony . Stunning numbers. The latest cbs news poll Shows Americans expect longlasting economic pain. Nearly twothirds of people we spoke to believe some businesses will bounce back fast, but others will not. We also found more americans disapprove of President Trumps handling of the crisis as it wears on. Ben tracy is at the white house. Ben, the president is still pushing for businesses to reopen as soon as possible . Good morning. He is. The president says he would prefer to open up the country all at once with what he calls a big bang. Cbs news has now learned the president is considering forming an Economic Task force. This would focus on how you get the economy back up and running once the worst of this pandemic is over. But for right now, both parties agree that more Financial Relief is needed. They just cant agree on how much. The Republicancontrolled Senate tried to pass an additional 250 billion in Small Business loans on thursday. But democrats want double that. They want to include money for food stamp programs, hospitals and state and local governments. Now as for the widespread nationwide coronavirus testing that you were talking about with dr. Agus, President Trump was asked if thats needed before the country reopens. Heres what he said. We want to have it and were going to see if we have it. Do you need it . No. Is it a nice thing to do . Yes. Were talking about 325 million people, and thats not going to happen, as you can imagine. Reporter now, the governments own experts including Anthony Fauci have said that widespread testing and monitoring is essential before the country reopens. The federal government had planned to end funding for some of those drivethrough test sites popping up in states across the country. In a reversal, Vice President mike pence says the federal funding will continue for those sites, and it will be up to the states if they want to take them over themselves. Tony . All right, ben. Thank you very much. We want to give people an update on a coronavirus case weve been following. Thats the case of british Prime Minister boris johnson. Hes out of intensive care but continues to have coronavirus treatments. A Spokesman Says johnson is still hospitalized and under close observation. But is in, quote, extremely good spirits. Welcome back to cbs this morning. Im gayle king with Tony Dokoupil and anthony mason. Frighteniighting an unseen. Uncertain times, we answer your questions about the pandemics financial fallout. And acts of kindness. Tyler perry tells gayle about sharing the wealth when so many are in need. He wants to help but first, here is todays eye opener at 8 00. New york state now has more reported coronavirus cases than any country in the world. More than 466,000 covid cases reported nationwide. But there are signs of improvement. There are 90,000 hospital beds statewide but only 18,000 filled. This is really good news. Every time we get good news like that, it seems to always be said right alongside something that is stunning. What are we learning about once you had this if you recover, can you get it a second time . Its a great question. The answer is we just dont know. Americans expect the long lasting economic pain. The president says he would prefer to open up the country all at once with what he calls a big bang. In predictable pandemic news, a new survey finds that pot use reached an all time high in march amid lockdown measures. Really . All time high . Then you werent with me chief bong and the warrior out at the point. That was the all time high, boy. Im joking, obviously. This mornings eye opener is presented by toyota. Welcome back. Were broadcasting from our homes and we hope youre following guidelines to stay home as much as possible. We begin with this. The coronavirus death toll in the u. S. Has now topped 16,000. Near the end of what officials warned would be a devastating week. Heres where the approximate death toll stood at the beginning of each day since sunday as of midnight more than 8100 americans have died just this week. We still have two full days left to go. Hard to contemplate. New york state is still americas epicenter. About 800 people died there yesterday. That is the most ever for the third consecutive day in a row. But a decline in hospitalizations in the state. Something dr. Anthony fauci spoke about yesterday. At the same time were seeing increasing death, were seeing decrease in the need for hospitalizations. I think yesterday was Something Like 200 new hospitalizations and its been as high as 1400 at any given time. Thats going the right direction. A lifesaving medical worker is one of the younger americans we have lost to the coronavirus. A 24yearold emt from new jersey. Hes survived by his wife who told us this morning he would always go out of his way to help everyone else before he helped himself. His death is an important reminder that while the coronavirus is most deadly for the elderly, anyone can be affected. And gayle, a go fund me has been set up to pay for his funeral. More bad news, but we hope people can at least say goodbye in some sort of order. Yes. Im happy to hear that people will want to contribute to that. Again, another reminder, it does not discriminate. Someone else who risked their lives to help others. Zblrcht across the country the u. S. Military also risking their lives on the front lines in the fight against the coronavirus. This pandemic is also taking a toll on Service Members who risked their own health to help all of us. Defense secretary mark esper joins us to talk about that part of the story. Good to see you. Thank you for taking the time to be with us. We appreciate that. Youre welcome, gayle. Thank you for having me. Were very glad youre here. Were hearing about military Health Care Workers that will now be deployed in new york city to relieve the workers here. Where are they going and what will they be doing . First, let me say how proud i am of the 50,000 plus american Service Members deployed around the country helping their fellow americans. As you noted, many are certainly deployed from their own families but also risking their own welfare, their own health to help their fellow americans. Im proud of them. The department of defense has tried to stay ahead of the curve and need. I think we have since going back to january. Weve tried to be adaptable in terms of how we respond to the state and local governments. Ive had several conversations with Governor Cuomo and the mayor and weve worked well together. I appreciate the mayors kind comments in the past couple days. With regard to the medical professionals in new york city, we have about 2500 doctors, nurses and others in the city. That includes 1,000 on the comfort. A couple im sorry, 1,000 at the Javits Center and weve deployed to 11 new york City Hospitals 350 doctors nurses and respiratory therapists and today well be deploying another 300 to help those local hospital workers who have been struggling to keep on top of the cases. Help them out. Provide additional relief from the department of defense. You know, mr. Secretary, i hear you say youre proud of them. Its interesting to me, theyre proud to do it. They want to do this. They want to get out there and help and risk their lives. Thats the definition of a true hero to me. They really do, and many of them, if you look at the national guard, the ifirst to deploy, theyre coming from homes and communities. And then as weve had to start reaching into our reserve forces weve had many doctors, nurses and others volunteer to come back on active duty or volunteer for active duty to serve. Im proud of them. They have my highest respect and regard for what theyre doing today and across the country. The biggest outbreak were hearing is on the theed dor roosevelt. 1900 servicemen, but 400 are on the aircraft the theodore roosevelt. What is being done to protect them there and in other places . We have less than 10 of the crew is infected. All but one are mild to moderate cases. So i think the navy is taking a lot of prudent steps to get that under control. The most important thing right now is to take care of our sailors, make sure theyre getting the care they need and get the ship back to sea so it can perform its wartime mission. The navy has been pushing out supplies, doctors. Weve been able to get thousands of the sailors off the ship and taken care of ashore. And ive spoken with the acting secretary of the navy and the chief of naval operations. I know theyre doing everything they can to make sure we accomplish the two missions. And talking about the acting navy secretary, the resignation has been widely discussed. You have certainly been asked and you have answered. Your thoughts are widely known. There seems to be more information today. The navy chief says that he appears to be open to reinstating him depending on the outcome of an investigation. Depending on that outcome, are you, too, open to reinstating him . Well, look, when i replaced the acting navy secretary, i gave them guidance. I said no further action will be taken against the captain until the investigation is completed. And once thats completed well see where that takes us. And so weve taken nothing off the table. What i look to do is hear from the chain of command. My inclination is always to support the chain of command and take their recommendation seriously. Well see how it plays out in the coming days. Theyll come share their findings and recommendations. Is it ever okay to break the chain of command or protocol . This is a career officer, when hi thinks lives are at stake . Does that matter . Following the chain of command and maintaining Operational Security is very important in the military. There are always extreme cases where going outside the chain of command makes sense. Thats why we want to see where this investigation takes us. But i will tell you the last time i spoke to the chief of naval operations, we have other ships with no infected crews. Im confident that overall the navy is taking prudent steps to maintain the health of sailors and ensure our warships are ready to go. What keeps you up at night when it comes to coronavirus . You have a lot on your plate like everybody who is handling this, i know youre working 24 7. What keeps you up at night on this . Like many governors have said, the biggest challenge is making sure you have sufficient doctors and nurses and because i have mobile capabilities is maintaining adaptability and beingag agile. When the governor or the mayor asked for the mercy ship, we had been preparing her, anticipating this so we got her to the harbor. As we converted the Javits Center, we adapted quickly. Now in the past few days when i spoke to the mayor about a week ago he said i need doctors in my hospitals. I said well get it done. Thats why we to remain flexible and agile. It looks like seattle will release the army Field Hospital. Well look at another place around the country to send that. Because right now we have forces deployed in new orleans, dallas, were looking at massachusetts, chicago, other places around the country that are in need. All right. Secretary esper, we see youre on top of it. Flexible, agile, and pivot. Pivot is a big word these days. Thank you for your time. Thank you. My skin gets so tired. Since were coming from our homes well share a story with each of you and each of us. Tony, i know youre first, but before you start, i got a message from a viewer that said please tell gayle to pull down her sweater. Her stomach is showing. Its a skirt. I promise viewers, youll never see my stomach on television. I appreciate you clearing that up. I am fully dressed. I have gotten notes from viewers that dont like the chest hair. People are going to have to deal with it. I like it. My wife likes it. Shes customer number one. I need people to cast their mind back to a time when we used to go into bars and have a drink. Theres a owner from georgia who had an idea to pay her workers during the shutdown. Its the kind of bar that for the past 15 years customers have come back, knocked back a beer and stapled a dollar to the wall to make a mark. The owner realized that shes got unemployed workers because theyre in shutdown mode. She wanted to help them out. Shes surrounded by money. It took them days but they took all that money down, added it up. It was more than 3,000. Theyve distributed it to the staff as a kind of hidden bonus. Hidden in sight. What a gesture. It makes me remember okay. Not only have an easier yeah. Well have another dollar bill and staple a dollar bill to a wall. We had a little trouble with your tig zsignal, but i love th. You see the money on the wall and wonder how much is up there . What a great cause. Mine comes from a brother and sister in long island who found a way to have a ball with the extra time on their hand. Riley and grace built a contraption in their house. They got a ball to travel nonstop from a bunk bud on their second floor down two sets of stairs. They used items they found around the house including popsicle sticks, books and jenga game pieces. The ball landed in a small cup of water in the basement. It took them two and a half days to set up this project. Obviously theyve got the time right now. They tested this more than 50 times before they got it to work. Riley who is 14 was ready to give up and his sister, grace, who is 12 kept saying stamina, riley, you cant give up. The parents say its emotional taking it down because they wanted it to stay up forever, but they need to get back up the stairs. Gayle . Thats what girls do. You cant give up. We dont give up. My story is from the caribbean. The Prime Minister of the caribbean island of st. Martin has become an internet sensation. She had a very no nonsense message to the citizens about staying home during the pandemic. Look what she had to say. Simply stop moving. If you do not have the type of bread you like in your house, eat crackers. If you do not have bread, eat cereal. Eat oats. Sardines. Youre supposed to have a twoweek supply for hurricane. Oh, god, it cracks me up. Her speech had more than 1 million views on twitter. I just love this woman. And i think we could all take a lesson from her. Shes terrific. I love it. She aint playing. Very direct, gayle. Yeah. Eat a cracker, anthony. Sardines. Sometimes you need it to be said in plain language. All right. Many of you have been asking questions related to the financial fallout from the coronavirus pandemic. We are joined with answers. Jill, good morning. Welcome back. Thanks. Let me start you off with the first question which comes from jim who writes that his workplace is closed, but his employer has not communicated what his job status is at this point. So hes wondering should he file for unemployment . Absolutely. Dont wait. I think its fair to say that anyone who has been sidelined more than a week and you havent heard from your boss, just presume youre unemployed. Remember, the cares act that was passed a few weeks ago expands eligibility for unemployment, so go ahead, make that claim and bring your patience with you. Its going to take a while to get the unemployment claims moving. As soon as possible, do that. Jill, i have a good question from andrea. She says her familys income is inconsistent. They have a mortgage, loans and credit card bills. She wants to know which one to prioritize. Its so important to do this. I think that for anyone who has any income at all or even those who have been laid off or furloughed, looking at the expenses and prioritizing the bills really a number one job. So heres a great tip. You can go to consu consumefinance. Gov. Theres a prioritizing build tool on the site. Food comes first. But everything after that is negotiable. You may say i have to make my car payment, because you know what . I need to drive to work. Or you may say, i dont need my car right now. Im going to tell my the lender that i need some help. Regardless, go through the exercise. Prioritize your bill. For those bills you cannot pay, reach out to the lenders. Reach out to landlords. Ask for some help. Say the virus has impacted you. Many are willing to cut you some slack. Jill, our viewer andrea says her familys income is inconsistent. They have a mortgage, loans, and credit bills. Sorry. We asked that question. Forgive me. I want to go to a question from bob. Bob says i am 67. I was planning to retiring next year. What are people who are approaching retirement be doing right now . I have gotten this message a thousand times on my podcast. Theyre coming in fast and furious. The thing is as you approach retirement, you would have hoped that you came into the period with some lower risk in some of your assets. Maybe youd have not as much money in your Retirement Plan in the stock market, but a lot of people just found out they made a mistake. So now what do you do . You go back and start running your numbers for your own Retirement Planning. If you need help, theres a lot of resources online. But what you want to make sure is that youve got enough money to create the income you need, and if you need to work longer, that might not be the most ideal scenario, but it might help you really get through this period. Because if you can go back to work, work for an extra year that you hadnt planned on, that may allow you to not invade your Retirement Assets at a time when markets are still trading a lot lower than they were just a month and a half ago. Jill, this question comes from stacey in a position i think a lot of workers are. She writes shes getting a 10 pay cut until further notice, and she wants to know if she should consider lowering her 401k contributions. I think this is a tough decision. It really depends how close you are living to the edge. If you are putting money into your Retirement Plan, comfortably, and you can still do that, it would be great if you could continue. And here is why. When you have retirement contributions automatically coming out of your paycheck, those contributions happen regardless of whether the market is up or down. Imagine this. Youre buying shares lower. If possible, hold on. Keep putting that money away. And try not to mess with your game plan. All right. Jill, many thanks. Coming up, tyler perry talks with gayle about what inspired him to help thousands of people in lately, ive discovered that while keeping safe and staying in, we can still go out sort of. So while youre discovering new things to do in the box, well be here for you. At the drivethru, on the mobile app, and with delivery. Hes also giving back to the communities most at risk of exposure to the virus. This week, he paid for thousands of peoples supplies at more than 70 improesgrocery stores i louisiana. Only on cbs this morning he tells us how he hopes this will inspire a movement of generosity across the country. Youre no stranger of coming in acts of kindness, big and small. I think when people see what you do, it could inspire others. Im hoping by paying for the groceries for these people who are just like me, come from where i come from, im hoping other will join in. You may not be able to pay for 73 grocery stores. Maybe you can buy groceries for one person or a neighbor. Were going to be hit much harder than any other minority in the country, im sure. So my hope is that someone will see it and say okay, hey, i can cosomething to help somebody else. How did you decide to do that . I would imagine a lot of big corporations came to you and said can you please help . Ive had a few of those. I wanted to do something that got to the people immediately. I reached out to grocery stores. I wanted to go directly to neighborhoods where the incomes are much lower and i wanted to really focus and drive the point home there, and try and help there. People when they got the news, that tyler perry had done this tyler perry is taking care of your grocery bill. It really does touch your heart when you see the difference you made, what it did for people that particular day. Thats what we need right now. We need just some hope. We are inundated with negativity. Its bad. So many are dying. Our Health Care Workers are struggle. They dont have ppe. These things are true but also draining on the sole and spirit. Lets spread good news to motivate us all. What this has caught us, were all one, and we cannot get through this unless we realize no matter what our race, were all one. I asked you once why you always do good deeds like this. You said it comes from your mother. I think your mother would be proud of what you do. For sure, and can i tell you this, dpail. In the last ten years since her passing, theres not one day i have not wished she was on this planet until the covid19. My mother had major preexisting conditions. This is the only time since her passing that im glad shes not here to experience this. Thats the other thing they were saying. Some of the conditions that a lot of people in the black community have is the problem. That for sure. The underlying conditions we have. Like everybody i know from where i come from, theres some sort of underlying condition, be it diabetes or high Blood Pressure or obesity. Theres always something. Im hoping that we really take a moment to take it seriously. Ive seen too many things online saying we dont get this or black people dont travel abroad. Its not going to come to our community. Thats a ridiculous thought. It is coming to it has come to our community, and its devastating us in disproportionate numbers. Do you find youre afraid of it . Im not afraid of it as much as i am afraid for a lot of people who have underlying conditions who im hoping we as black people really i know its affecting everybody, but when you have a third of the deaths being african americans, i want us to really focus on what that means. It illustrates the point that this coronavirus is very devastating to the black community. Yeah. Because im hoping we as black people start to take this thing seriously. And i get it. Ive been on both sides of this wealth thing. Ive been extremely poor and managed to do well. I understand what its like to be there and not have the health care you need, not to be able to take care of yourself, only go to the doctor if something is wrong, but to be socially distanced doesnt cost you anything. You said in your post stay home in caps and exclamation point. We cant stress that enough. That doesnt mean were going to have a bbq with all the family. Its locking down in your house with the members of your household and staying away from other people. The other thing, tyler, you did the other day online on your page, on your social. Hes got the whole world in his hands challenge. Im going to start this song, and then i want all of yall to add to it. Hes got the whole world in his hand in his hands hes got the whole world in his hands hes got the whole world in his hands. How did you pick that song . There are many you could have chosen . I wanted a simple song everybody knows. To see it take off like that and have all of these people singing, it was like a little prayer around the world letting everybody know were okay. Its going to be okay. The whole world in his hands when he says everything is going to be okay, somebody said to me this morning, tony, i didnt know that tyler perry could sing. I say tyler perry can do everything. He is a walking talking example of goodness, always trying to make things better. Thats wellput. I didnt know he could sing either. We keep saying this virus doesnt discriminate, and thats true, but this is discrimination in this society, and thats why its important for him to step forward and help those who need it the most. Coming up, gayle will ask jerome adams why hes hopeful social distancing is working. Well be right back.
