Joe vasquez is in hay ward where family members of patients and staffers have raised troubling questions about the facility. Alameda county Health Officials now report six patients of this nursing facility have died as a result of the coronavirus. 59 people here have tested positive. Thats 25 residents and 24 staffers. Tonight we watched as mortuary workers arrived to take away one of the sian pose. Nursg reporr we also talked to two men who are married to two staffers who tested positive. They insist that their wives were told they had to come to work even if they were infected with the coronavirus. They told my wife, you have to come to work all you have to do is wear a mask. But shes positive. Of course, of course. Shes not tkwoeupbg , going to come to work. They told my wife, you can come back to work. And she told them, no its against the law. They told us to isolate at home. They belong to somebody. Somebodys grandmother, somebodys mother. Reporter jaime petinas grandmother is a resident here. The family was told shes healthy but nobody in the facility told anybody about the number of coronavirus cases here. Im even more upset now. Reporter the Alameda CountyHealth Department says it has formed a special task force to investigate the nursing home deaths. In hayward, joe vasquez. The east bay postacute Center Reports 17 Staff Members and nine residents have tested positive. Skill nursing facility in river side had to be evacuated because the employees who work thister 13 employup for work. Over the past two days. At least 34 of the residents have tested positive at the nurses home and at least five of the employees. Today the u. S. Saw more deaths from the coronavirus than any other since the outbreak started. According to john hopkins university, more than 1,900 people died from the infection today. Bringing the total number to nearly 15,000. Meanwhile here in california, the number of cases passed the 500 mark. New projections show we could just be days away from the peak number of cases requiring hospitalization. Researchers at the university of washington in seattle say the peak should happen at around april 13th which is next monday. State leaders and Health Officials are now discussing the next steps after the number of new cases starts to subside. Experts say that some restrictions will likely be lifted around the start of summer while others may remain in place. Wearing masks in public.
