Critical businesses will need to develop a comprehensive plan for social distancing for customers and employees. And the list of businesses that qualify as essential has been adjusted. That change will bring most Construction Projects to the bay area to a grinding halt. The chance the virus may spread. A Record Number of californians have filed for unemployment and many are struggling to pay their rent thats due tomorrow. The uncertainty going on paychecks. Reporter tomorrow is april 1 and thousands of newly jobless people in the bay area. They dont want a huge bill on the other end of this crisis. Reporter im feeling really scared. You can only see five feet in front of you. Reporter filing for unemployment for the first time yesterday. The owners laid off 400 employees, temporarily closing down all 17 locations. I dont know how to cover rent after may. Were suppose to be quarantined until may. Reporter in 26 states including california, governors have imposed a temporary pause on evictions or for closures for some or all residents. I think a lot of people wont be able to make back three months rent whenever theyre able to start working. Reporter normally the state will see 2,000 insurance applications a day, receiving a record 150,000. In all 1. 6 million californians have applied. Demand for cal fresh the states Food Stamp Program has also surged across the state. In San Francisco 300 people are applying each day. In san jose they are seeing fresh new faces lining up for free food. Folks on the borderline, now with losing jobs, not having childcare, really being pushed to the brink. Sacred heart announced an 11 million covid19 fund to give checks to struggling residents, receiving 4,500 applications. That fund is now maxed out. And there is a wait list. Ken . Five people at the Pacifica Nursing Rehab Center have now tested positive for coronavirus and one of those patients, they have died. Meanwhile it will appear no one else at the facility, patient, staff have received any test results. The patients were requesting a test for them while they are offering drivethru testing as we cannot drive through patients. And the employees, they offered testing there, however. Reporter earlier this month vingcare fants of the senior burlingame also tested positive for the coronavirus. Same goes for nine Staff Members and two residents at laguna hospital in San Francisco. And im very concerned about it because we understand there could be 300 Nursing Homes across the country now that will have the virus. A professor at the school of nursing and an expert on Nursing Homes warned us a few weeks ago outbreaks like this could happen. A nursing home was at the center of the outbreak. Tonight in southern california, officials reported 51 residents have tested positive for covid 19 at this nursing facility along with six Staff Members. Two of those residents have died. New at 11 00 the San Jose Police department is taking extra steps to protect their officers. From now on they will be wearing face masks, protective eye wear, and gloves when they take a suspect into custody. A mask will also be placed over the suspects nose and mouth. At least one officer and one reserve officer has already tested positive for the virus. A veteran Santa Rosa Police officer died today of coronavirus complications. The detective had been with the force for 20 years and most recently served on the Domestic ViolenceSexual Assault team. The Department Plans to release more details tomorrow. And also today napa county announced its first covid19 death. The patient is identified only as an adult who had been hospitalized.
