Two weeks ago there were 126 reported coronavirus cases and 17 states. Here is where we are. The virus has spread to all 50 states. More than 6300 reported cases. At least 109 people have died. New york state has the highest number of reported cases. Deadly outbreaks throughout history may offer important lessons on how we can deal with the coronavirus pandemic. A decade ago the h1 and one swine flu killed more than 12,000 americans and hospitalized within 274,000 in the u. S. The death toll from the 1968 flu pandemic in the u. S. Is thought to be 100,000 most of them older adults. The most severe pandemic in modern history happened in 1918. When the flu infected about one third of the worlds population. It killed an estimated 675,000 people in the u. S. Questions surrounding testing for covid 19. I spoke to a doctor who told me thousands of test kits are not being used in california because they are missing a key component mac that is because we have to test from cdc but we dont have the agents to use them. There are thousands of test kits that are sitting here and states that we are not able to use them. That is frustrating. On the Positive Side what we are seeing is private laboratories that are coming forth and we are able to use them for testing. It is still not as good as we would like it to be. I guess we are ramping up and we are getting somewhere. We have test kits but we are missing certain crucial pieces to them . Exactly which pieces are missing . The reagents. That is what we used to extract the rna from the actual nasal swab. We are missing that. If we cant extract we cant do the test. How will testing be prioritized . Who gets tested first . Healthcare workers . First responders . Number one if a patient is symptomatic if they have exposure or have trouble travel or one of the two groups to get priority. Over anyone else. We have our healthcare workers and first responders. There is basically a list of people who also get priority so we can make sure while they are doing their job they are not exposing people if they are positive. As of today we had 5000 positive coronavirus numbers today. In america. I think that not a realistic number. What the experts are saying is it is close to 50,000. We just havent been able to test as many people as we probably would have liked it should have. I think at this point ive talked to many experts and what they say and what i agree with is at this point we should all behave like we are positive. That is the reason it is so important to just stay at home and not go out and socialize with people so we are not spreading this around. Thank you for your time. By now we have heard about the importance of flattening the curve. Minimizing the number of infections so hospitals can handle the load. It is too early to say how well we are doing.
