You can find news anytime of the day on your favorite devices. We love the weather, but a significantly dry winter has brought a drop back to california. Meteorologist derek peck joining us now with just how dry we are. If you want to be technical about it, according to the latest Drought Monitor, 10 of the state of california is now in a drought and if you look over my shoulder you can see that is the area that is shaded in the tan color, the smaller patch of brown, basically that is like the central southern sierra but if you look at the bay area, we are included in the area on this map that is shaded in yellow and vicki over here shows you that means we are abnormally dry. Now, that is a change from the last time the Drought Monitor was issued a month ago and of course theres no surprise why we are talking about this. Look at the next map. This is the rain fell rainfall from october first up today. It is colorcoded, theres a lot over here on the key, but all you have to do is look at the shades of deep orange and over here, it shows you most of those places in orange, which includes the bay area. Ive only got about 40 of the amount of rainfall we shouldve got and weve been showing you rainfall totals here for the last several weeks. This is not necessarily news, the one other thing to think about would be snow in the sierra. We are looking at about 56 of average in the central sierra which is where much of our water comes from and if you look from the statewide as a whole there, numbers are not good. Lets hope we start getting that storm track back here. I will be back with our complete forecast coming up in just a few minutes. Back over your. Pg e is offering local clean energy providers, it does sound like a fabulous deal. Millions of dollars of electricity at no cost. But, there is a catch. Kpix 5s john ramos tells us that that is a dealbreaker for many. Reporter some bay area communities are learning that even when something is free, it may come with a price tag you are not willing to pay. Community Choice Energy companies called ccas have been taking business away from pg e for a few years now, so it was a surprise to alameda countys east Bay Community energy when the utility offered up to 11 million of carbon free energy. The catch . It comes from the Diablo CanyonNuclear Power plant. That is a problem for a nuclear free zone, like berkeley. The Nuclear Energy is known for having waste, which is for hundreds of thousands of years. Even if you could get it for free, you wouldnt want to . That is correct. Reporter the mayor agrees, he sits on the board of east Bay Community and says if they accept the offer, customers will question the very purpose of the agency. I think if they look at the power content, that is going to be a real black mark for the agency. But it is not really free at all. Under the rules, ccas have to pay pg e and annual exit fee to reimburse the utility for its Energy Production cost. Including Diablo Canyon. So, the agencies would be refusing the energy even though the customers will still be paying for it. The Nuclear Plant is scheduled to close in 2025 and clean Energy Activists suspected as an effort to keep that from happening. They are pulling on the greedy strings of Community Choice programs. If they take this, that will justify keeping Diablo CanyonNuclear Powerpoint open and we dont want to do that. Community choice providers are facing the same dilemma. Protect their bottom line or stay true to their philosophical mission. Do we want to be cleaner and greener and more affordable or do we want to adopt pg es same approach . Senator Bernie Sanders is out with a new video that takes aim at pg e just a few weeks before california primary. Decades of negligence, pg e has a long, long history of really messing up the people that they are supposed to be taking care of. Stone is awaiting punishment for lying to congress. The president complained on twitter about a possible prison sentence for stone of 79 years. The department and recommended a lighter sentence, overruling case prosecutors who resigned and protested. To have public statements and tweets made about the department, about cases pending in the department, and about judges before whom we have cases , make it impossible for me to do my job. The Justice Department insists there was no coronation of the lighthouse on reducing the recommended prison time. Left another check of the letter. Darren peck is in the Weather Center peer darren, it was definitely a lot chillier this morning. Yes it was. You can see part of that change that shows up when you take a look at the live view for camera, this, looking off toward the west and sure enough, it almost looks like a summer pattern here, where you pulled in the blanket that is the low clouds and the marine layer, not only looking west, but also looking east across the bay bridge and if we go to our camera that sits on treasure island, you see theres plenty. So, youre going to wake up friday morning with another shower like this with the gray skies that stick around but by the middle of the day tomorrow, stronger offshore flow picks up, gets rid of the clouds and that will allow tomorrows daytime highs to be noticeably warmer than today. We are not staying as cool and gray as we were today for long. At least not for tomorrow. But before we get into tomorrow, here are the morning lows we are going to go back down to the low to mid 40s for most places, daytime highs pretty much on the mark for average. Big number in the middle shows you where we are going for daytime highs.
