Contra costa and santa clara counties are reaching out to those voters to get the problem corrected. Kpix 5s da lin is in martinez with the problem and the solution. Reporter the Elections Office in Contra Costa County sent out 125,000 postcards like this one to voters who dont have Party Preference. The office says some of those voters were changed to no Party Preference by mistake. I was shocked. And i had to really look at it and make sure it was my name. Reporter thats because jeri has been registered as a democrat for 43 years. She received this postcard on wednesday saying since she has no Party Preference, the Elections Office will not mail her a president ial candidate ballot for the primary election. She was not happy. My parents werent allowed to vote, so when they were allowed, they taught all of their children, go and voice your opinion. Reporter the local Elections Office says its a thatewide prob blame the motor y program launched last year by the secretary of state and the dmv. People who went to the dmv recently were automatically registered to vote. Even for those who already had a Party Preference, some people were mistakenly changed to no Party Preference. We got 80 calls yesterday. People panic, you know, theres a lot of interest in this upcoming primary. Reporter the Elections Office in Santa Clara County says they received 300 calls in a short amount of time over the mistake. Elections Officials Say its impacting an unknown amount of registered voters of all parties across the state. Because its a statewide issue, it would be great if there was more coordinated centralized state effort to inform voters. I would think the candidates would really be up in arms about this error. Reporter as for jeri, she hopes others catch the problems in time. They get the postcards in the mail, may not know what its about and toss it aside. Reporter there are 3 ways to fix the problem. And elections Officials Say that even if you didnt get a postcard about your Party Preference, you should go to the state website to verify your status and make sure you can vote in the upcoming president ial primary. Ubers stock taking a plunge today after the Company Released its long awaited safety report. Today their stock market fell by 1. 4 billion, shares dropping 2. 7 percent just a day after the Ride Sharing Company said more than 3,000 sexual assaults took place during rides in 2018. Ubers ceo sent out a tweet after the report was released saying the company is working to better protect its riders and drivers. Police in lafayette say theyve arrested 2 additional suspects in connection with a series of violent Home Invasion robberies. In all 4 people are in custody now. 3 people from fairfield, 1 from vallejo. Police got a tip leading them to the first 2 suspects. The suspects are tied to at least 4 Home Invasions in the east bay since late october according to police. Officers say when they arrested the suspects, they found guns and numerous items connected to the robberies. Theyre being held on 1. 5 million bail and are expected in court on monday. Tonight growing concern over the safety of ups drivers. This after 3 drivers were robbed at gun point in san jose. With the Holiday Season comes an extra heavy workload for ups drivers, but theyre not just thinking about more stops and more packages to deliver after a series of 3 armed robberies of ups drivers in san jose this week. Theyre also now concerned about just staying safe. Its really scary, you know, because were here to provide a service to people. Its pretty sad. Reporter the latest robbery happened wednesday night. After making his delivery to a home on war admiral near snow drive, a gunman in dark clothing held up the driver at gun point and forced him to lie face down in the street while an accomplice robbed the truck of valuable packages. They know what theyre looking for. Theyre looking for electronics. Reporter Jerry Sweeney shouno he was a driver and now heads the local teamsters union. The majority of them are out past 10 00 at night in this busy season. So theres a potential for crimes like this to happen. Especially in areas they shouldnt be in. Were learning the name of a florida ups driver killed after his fan was hijacked. It turns out Frank Ordonez was filling in for another driver who had called out. Armed suspected who abducted him led police on a chase and the shoot out left ordonez and 3 others dead. The drivers brother has now created a gofundme to pay for funeral costs and help the 2 young daughters he left behind. An air force officer from saudi arabia is the suspected shooter at a military base today in florida. The attack at the facility in pensacola left 4 people dead, including the saudi officer. Reporter the fbi is now leading into investigation into the mass shooting at Naval Air Station pensacola, where a saudi aviation student opened fire. When you have a Foreign National involved, you know, particularly in that part of the world, the investigation is obviously going to be different than if it was just somebody from the local community. Reporter cbs news confirmed the name of the shooter as mohammed saee d alshmarani. They are trained here, and its important. Reporter investigators say he killed 3 people, wounded several others including 2 sheriffs deputies before a deputy took him out. Walking through the crime scene was like being on the set of a movie. Reporter the wounded were taken to local hospitals including the deputies. Nas pensacola is one of the navys most historic bases. It employs more than 16,000 military and 7400 civilian personnel. Certainly this is a tragic day for the city of pensacola. Nas is an incredibly important part of our community. Hundreds of people protested this morning in San Francisco. They blocked off howard street, held signs and banners demanding action including divesting in oil. We have less than 11 years to change our entire system or else were all going to die climate strikes also took place in san rafael, santa rosa, and berkeley. In washington several actors including several actors like jane fonda were part of the rally. In madrid Greta Thunberg joined the rally. People are suffering and dying from the climate and ecological emergency today and we cannot wait any longer. Climate activists also gathered in new york city for a march and protest today. In the meantime california voters are calling Climate Change a top priority according to a new poll from uc berkeleys school of government studies. It was chosen as the highest priority for the next president. 32 percent chose health care reform. 14 percent immigration and just 3 percent criminal justice. Flu season has started a bit earlier than usual this year. The California Department of Public Health says that now is the time to get that flu shot. 16 flu related deaths have already been recorded since the start of flu season in september and doctors say getting vaccinated is the best defense. Another storm is getting ready to slam the sierra this weekend. While skies were clear earlier today, the skiers enjoyed all the fresh powder on the slopes, but not for long. Traffic starting to pick up on i80 just a little bit. Getting here this time of year means getting here when the getting is good, and for many that means starting early before closures and delays. Blowers, shovels. Reporter cindy stocks up when snow is about to pile up on i80. Once that slows down, theyll all start turning in here. Reporter she runs a company that cleans and cares for travel centers. They can clear out supplies in the bathrooms in no time flat, so to keep it stocked up and swept up. Ve hareporter thousands will head up the hill to enjoy the estimated 2 feet of snow in just 2 days. You ready for fresh stuff . Oh, yeah, fresh powder for sure. Reporter ski resorts are ready for what Mother Nature brings. Snow cats, plows, frontend loaders, huge snow machines. So we dont require any outside assistance. Reporter and so is cal trans when 650 employees on duty and nearly 200 pieces of snow equipment between i80 and highway 50. This time of year all that white means plenty of green for those who bank on business during the winter season. This year to receive already 75 inches of snow, another 20 on the way, we have a 48inch base, i mean people in the bay are stoked. Reporter you will not be stoked if you dont bring chains and theyre required, so please plan ahead. Who will be stoked, chain installers if the wintry conditions are as big as were expecting. All right, rachel, thank you so much. We head over to darren peck. Thats a look at the sierras this weekend, but back here in the bay area, we are going to be getting tons of rain. Veronica, we have to bring it back home because we have just seen some of the best bands of rain come on shore. Look at high def doppler. Its lit up like a christmas tree. Plenty of yellow, green, and orange. And a very well defined line. See it from north to south, thats the cold front coming in just in time for the commute. This is some of the most impressive rain were likely going to see from the whole storm. Its happening right now. North bay got it first. Theyre not the only ones in this, but ill start in the north bay because this is where it began, and weve already seen really good rain coming down at times in santa rosa. But coming in for a close up look, you can see from 12 and 101 intersect, heavier rain in the hills. Lets follow it down 101. Petaluma, youre now seeing it, and also strong wind. As the cold front comes in with the heaviest rain, the winds gusting near 40 Miles Per Hour at times. All down the 101 corridor. You can see what it looks like here looking at marin. Mill valley with heavier rain on mount tam. And it just got into the city. This happened within the last 15 minutes. In fact, look at the richmond district. Right up through lands end where you have the red bulls eye. Thats heavy rain and moving this way across the grid, and its not just the city. We come back out for the wide view. Theres the rest of the peninsula. East bay and south bay right now, at least as far as the radar is concerned, nothing. But you have to look upstream. This is moving pretty quickly. So were going to see this develop over the entire bay area within the next 45 minutes to an hour. Particularly in the east bay. In fact if we come back out. Switch from live high def doppler and switch it to futurecast, it picks up on that line right where we had. Thats a good sign. We can trust the forecast models going forward. Into the evening you can see the heavier bands of rain from now until after midnight to finally call it quits for the first wave. And remember, this is just wave number one. Saturday is coming in with another wave of rain will almost as Good Organization that has the stuff coming through tonight. So it will be like a double hit. In fact, look at rainfall totals for tonight and then ill show you saturday. This gets us through friday. With the heavy showers coming up from the south, the Santa Cruz Mountains get hit really hard because the mountains force the rain up and theyre shielding san jose from the heavier rain. That happened last weekend. It will likely happen again with this one. But were not all in that situation. Look across the rest of the bay area. Especially up here in the north bay. Well pick up a half inch of rain just tonight. So far ive only shown you the leading edge of the storm which is friday. We need to look back here. This is the rain we have now. Thats our saturday. And the radar cant raid that far to detect all the isolated thunderstorms that are embedded in the middle of that. And thats going to be overhead for much of the weekend.
