S. mexican citizenship were traveling 100 miles of mexicos bored are arizona. South of the border in arizona. They were on their way to the u. S. When family members say they were ambushed by cartels. Authorities say someone shot at the suv they were in, and at one point, the vehicle exploded. A relative of one of the families spoke about what happened. Its a whole new level of cartel violence. We never even imagined down there. There were other children inside the suv who survived the attack. Theyre now being brought to the u. S. Mexico border for medical treatment. Investigators say the victims killed were not the intended targets. The americans are associated with a religious community that settled in northern mexico. Some members who have ties to utah reportedly had previous interactions with cartels. The u. S. Embassy did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
