Geyserville still at 0 containment. At least half a dozen structures have burned possibly more. There is still no official word on the cause of the fire. We have learned pgn efiled an incident report with state regulators stating it found a broken jumper wire on one of its transmission towers in the area where the fire started. Filing the eir does not tell us where the fire started. The fact we filed it does not actually tell us what caused the fire aware is started. Cal fire the experts in this withdrawal that ultimate conclusion. But we reported our findings to the regulator and are sharing it with you out of a sense of transparency. As for why the transmission line was still energized in the first place they say the forecast wind speeds for that particular area didnt warn a shutdown for larger. Just for those smaller distribution lines. This could you live to Wilson Walker in the hills near the geysers. Reporter we went up towards the geothermal facilities. Just to see what we could find out there. We have flown a helicopter around up there. The early hours of this. Were poking around to see what we could find in the area. Nothing stood out as a focal point of in the investigation like we found with the camp fire when there really was a sealed crime scene at the ignition point of that fire. Something we did see. Im going to show you video of the trip from the Higher Elevations here heading down towards geyserville. The firefighters you will hear them talk about how that fire was moving downhill with the wind. You can see the aftermath. Look at the landscape left by the fire. There are places where fire can move through. There are places where fire can really move through hot with wind downhill. You get that loan smooth earth that you see there. That is evidence of some really intense fire. We are maybe 1300 feet. Geyserville sits at 200 feet. You can think about that fire starting at a high elevation and then racing downhill. That is how you get a really intense really fast moving fire. Im going to step out of the way. We can show you the backside of the mountain where the fire is still burning. That is the downslope from geyser peak over there. With fire burning on the backside. Still in active fire. We will probably be burning through the night. I want to take you live now to geyserville where cal fire is conducting an update on the kincaid fire. Rapidly expanding. Because of the terrain of the area the cruise had a difficult time getting around it early on. The fire grew much more quickly in size. In addition to the fact it was fueled by the dry northern winds we were anticipated to receive. That night the winds we believe were up to around 60 Miles Per Hour or greater. Which pushed the fire out of the geysers area. Down the hill and into the geyserville community. Just below just above the geyserville community. Firefighters continue to engage throughout the night. Today. As well. Bringing resources not only from cal fire but all over northern california. Other local Government Agencies. The fire stands at 16,000 acres. We have made 5 containment. We do have 49 structures confirmed destroyed. That Damage Assessment continues. It is not over. That is our current count. We have over 1300 firefighters on the line. That number is expected to go up by another 50 as early as tomorrow. We have eight air tankers along with the various a Large Air Tanker which was used today. Prior to the incident cal fire in our local Government Agencies staff additional resources. Such as cruise helicopters aircraft fire engines and even a night flying aircraft and anticipation of this wind event. Currently crews work throughout the day to further add to the control lines. Continue to gain containment on the fire itself. It was the first chance they have had to see in the daylight. They were able to get a better map of the area and establish better Strategic Plan for containment down the road. Will continue this process throughout the night and the next day. 24 hou a day. For the next few days into the incident is mitigated. Thank you. Speaking next will be Sonoma County sheriff. Good evening. On the sheriff of Sonoma County. Im going to be giving you an update on the current Law Enforcement activities. Surrounding the kincaid fire. The Sheriffs Office acknowledges this is a stressful time for many members in our community. It brings back memories from two years ago. We want to assure every Community Member at the Sonoma CountySheriffs Office is in your neighborhoods right now being affected. We have over 50 deputies on duty. Overnight we will have 26 deputies. Protecting the neighborhoods that have been evacuated. And directing folks on how to evacuate. I want to address a little bit of rumor control. There has been posting on social media that the Evacuation Order has been lifted. That is not accurate. All Evacuation Orders and warnings remain in effect. Currently the Evacuation Order in the town of geyserville in the hills east of geyserville up affects 2000 people. We want to continue to emphasize we want people to heed the evacuation warnings. Leave the area. We have plenty of deputies in the area to protect your property. We will assist you in your evacuation. Currently we are holding all evacuation routes. Once you leave an area you will not be allowed back in. We are doing that for your safety and the safety of the firefighters and First Responders in the area. As of right now we have zero reports of looting. No reports of looting in the area. I attribute that to a large Law Enforcement presence with the Sheriffs Office and Law Enforcement partners. California Highway Patrol. Chp. Santa Rosa Police Department and the hills bird police department. I would like to report we have no missing persons at this time. We have no fatalities reported to the Sheriffs Office at this time. We will continue to work closely with our cal fire partners. We will keep you informed. We want you to make sure you follow us on Facebook Twitter instagram for immediate updates. Lastly i want to thank the public for their incredible support of the Public Safety and the firefighters out there. We have had numerous donations of food and offers of help. It is much appreciated. Speaking next the california Highway Patrol. Captain wolf. Good evening. Im captain Aristotle Wolf the commander of the california Highway Patrol in Sonoma County. As far as Highway Patrol operations related to the fire we are manning road closures and assisting the Sheriffs Department and partners as necessary. Currently those closures are essentially denying access to the town geyserville. I geyserville avenue and 101 and geyserville avenue and canyon. We also have portions of 128 close. East of geyserville. Which begins at Alexander Valley and ends at pine flat road. As the sheriff said we are denying entry. I understand that can be frustrating to people. Please plan accordingly. If you do leave an area there shouldnt be people in the area. If they do leave they are not going to be allowed access back in. Our officers on those scenes are unfixed post. They will be there until it is deemed it is safe to let people back in. In the meantime we do have staffing and from other areas to assist with these closures. So you are still safe and secure on the roadways. We have full staffing throughout the area for regular operations. We would just like to say that it is a frustrating time. I know you have your commutes and your daily business to go about. Be patient with each other and us. Take care of each other. At this point i know it is important to people for tomorrows commute. There is no threat to u. S. 101. The freeway the main freeway will be open. And again just remind everyone to drive safely. Keep your frustrations at bay. Is a tough time for everybody. Thank you. Speaking next the county board of supervisors and Sonoma County. Thank you. Our thoughts are with the residents of the affected area. We are also thankful for the many First Responders here in the county assisting those of us in need. And protecting our life and property. Certainly behind the First Responders there is a deep bench of folks who work tirelessly in the roast to make sure we are all safe. We are happy thus far that i believe there are no injuries reported. We hope it stays that way. It has been a trying day. Again the health and safety of our residents is our number one concern. I would like to say obviously fires bring pore air quality. We want you to minimize. You have been listening to cal fire Sonoma County officials. The county board of supervisors. They have been giving us the latest on the kincaid fire earlier we heard from mike parks with cal fire who said the fire has now burned 16,000 acres. Is that 5 containment. 49 structures have been confirmed destroyed. If there is any good news no fatalities and no missing persons and that they know of. We dont know completely about injuries. Chp said the town of geyserville is essentially isolated. It has been closed off to anybody coming in. They want people who have been told to leave to go ahead and evacuate. They have beefed up patrolling. There is no reports of looting. They have extra personnel on duty to make sure that homeowners all of their possessions will stay safe through the night. 1300 firefighters and support personnel battling the fire right now. The number cal fire said is expected to go up by 50 tomorrow. They are staffing support for this wind even that they expect this weekend. We would like to give you over to aaron peck who has been monitoring the winds. He is in the weather center. The first thing i want to do is lend perspective to those numbers. 16,000 acres. Why was geyserville a concern . The view from space gives us a clue. The satellite is able to read the heat coming out the fire. Geyserville says they are. The fire started here. Every yellow box shows where the satellite detected heat. A red box within the last six hours. The fire started appear at the Higher Elevations on the Sonoma County line. These were northeast winds. It took the fire and blew that across the mountains. Down towards the Northern Edge of the Alexander Valley. Geyserville sits right there. The Forward Motion of the fire at least as far as the last satellite imagery is concern stops at the edge. Look where the more recent signatures are. On the edges. Those could just as easily be purposeful cal fire start to get protective lines. Where they will start the fire. There is your overview on what this thing looks like. Let me show you what it is doing right now from another view from space. The smoke which was getting pulled out from the kincaid fire drawn out over the ocean thanks to the offshore flow. Wrapped back around into the state. You can almost see the clockwise flow of high pressure. Most of the smoke is going over the ocean. If you watch the flow some of it is going to get wrapped around the backside and brought down to the bay area. The get with the air quality sensors are. Most of us. Od news story fo see ranch the one place right now that is reporting unhealthy levels of air quality. In terms of the next wind event that veronica talked about. That will be the focus of my next visit. Sunday morning right now has some issues. More on that in a few. We will keep checking back with you. Coming up it is a crisis that has killed six barry area teenagers in the past few months. Bay area. Pills laced with fentanyl are flooding not just high schools. But middle schools as well. What can you do to keep your kids safe . Our original report just ahead. With fire danger expected to get worse this weekend. We are learning of another massive power outage being planned by pg e. For the east bay and elsewhere. The Opioid Epidemic has taken a treacherous new turn in the bay area. Kids are getting their hands on counterfeit pills laced with fentanyl. That can be deadly. In this report we spoke with a local teenager who said those pills are all over the place. Reporter he has lived a lifetime in his 17 years. He has been to helen back. Somehow is still alive to tell his story. Bobby said it all began with wrappers writing lyrics about xanax. The highly addictive Prescription Drug for anxiety. Was now the latest deadly trend. It wasnt long before bobby mimicked his idols and swallowed his first pill in 10th grade. I got hooked i got hooked the first pill i took. Reporter at first he was getting high at home. And then on campus. Copping pills and in the Bay Area High School is easy. One text away. Any type of pill basically. It is all press. Reporter bobbys pills were not xanax at all. They were counterfeit. Many of these fake pills contain fentanyl. To give you an idea of just how powerful two milligrams a few grains can kill most people. Taking a counterfeit bill is 5050 you are going to die early the next day. Reporter you are playing russian roulette. The risk now is higher than ever. That is because the mexican drug cartels have taken over the counterfeit hill market. The drive the pills up from the border and into the bay area on heroin trafficking routes. And distribute them to their network of drug dealers. I would put this near the very top of the issues that i have seen out there. Reporter Chris Nielsen is the special agent in charge for the San Francisco region. Three years ago the trafficker was probably an independent trafficker who was trying to get his equipment. His drug off of the dark web buying it from china. The quality of the pills wasnt that great. The pills that are coming up from mexico now are professionally done. You cant tell the difference. The color is perfect. The markings are fine. The texture of the pill. They just look exactly like the real thing. Scary. Pope to give you an idea of the danger the dea seized the 6. 6 pounds of Counterfeit Pharmaceuticals in 2018. This year 37. 1 pounds. An increase of more than 500 . As you can see the real and the fake are very similar. It is not just xanax. Volume we will see from time to time. Hydrocodone. Oxycodone. Percocet we will see. Adderall is out there as well. Reporter counterfeit oxycodone killed four teenagers in august alone. Deputy District Attorney brian is investigating the cases. The problem here is these superpowerful drugs are masquerading as something benign. They are masquerading as something they are not in terms of how they are pressed. How they are shaped. There is not the stigma you have with heroin. These acute light blue pills. Reporter the epidemic is especially bad in schools. Have a 20yearold dealer. He will know 18yearold students. People start selling. These young people will drive. They do deliveries. It is russian roulette. You dont know what is in it. Reporter as for bobby his family locked him up at a Rehab Facility in utah for three months. He has relapse on. He has been sober for 4 months. His dream to be a rap artist. How is it you survived to be sitting in this chair talking to me . It is a miracle. Reporter his father said dont judge. If it happened to them it can happen to anyone. If they got through it so can you. He showed me he can be trusted again. I dont know what is going to happen in the future. But i feel like he is going to be okay. Reporter they have fixed all the damage bobby did to the house during his drug fueled rampages. Everything except for a whole he punched in his bedroom wall. It is a reminder of how far he has come and how far he has to go. Knowing how dangerous xanax is and how much life it has taken for my friends and from me. Im glad. I want everybody to know you can make it. No matter what. I didnt think i was going to make it. But i made it. Just this week we learned of two more deaths in monterey county. The counterfeit prescription pills. One of the victims was also a teenager. Law enforcement does not know if there is any connection between what is now six deaths. We will keep you posted. So scary. Not worth the gamble. You gamble with your life if you lose. There are a lot of pills out there. Eyeopening report. We will be right back.
