Turkey is very happy. The United States is very happy. Reporter the president defends his ceasefire. Despite an agreement by turkey to temporarily halt the fighting in northeast syria, gunfire reportedly broke out overnight. Reporter White House Acting chief of staff Mick Mulvaney backtracking on his statement about quid pro quo with ukraine. Get over it. Theres going to be political influence in foreign policy. Next years g7 summit will be held at a florida resort owned by President Trump. It will be completely and totally unfuneral. Its a domestic of the domestic emoluments clause. The son of el chapo free after he was detained by mix Security Forces following hours of intense gunfire. In support of chinese prodemocracy supporters in hong kong has cost the nba millions. Reporter a monster fall by lady gaga when the oscar winner invited a fan on to the stage. Reporter all that Quarterback Patrick Mahomes injured his right knee against the denver broncos. A lot of pain. And all that matters Energy Secretary rick perry has informed President Trump that he plans to resign. Perrys been secretary of energy since the beginning, but soon, like all the others, he will be when ben carson wakes up, hes going to be like, where the hell is everybody . On cbs this morning. Former defense secretary James Mad Dog Mattis roasted the president at the annual dinner. He reportedly called mattis the worlds most overrated general. Im honored to be considered that by donald trump because he also called meryl streep an overrated actress. So i guess im the meryl streep [ laughter ] this mornings eye opener is presented by brought to you by toyota lets go places. Jim mattis is gone, but clearly his sense of humor is very much intact. Very good last night. Welcome to cbs this morning where the story is alive and well at the white house. Thats where were going to begin. The white house is trying to contain political fallout on two fronts impeachment and syria after a pair of announcements drew major, major backlash. Acting white house chief of staff Mick Mulvaney now denies that he confirmed an apparent quid pro quo over u. S. Aid to ukraine. There is also heavy criticism of Vice President mike pences deal to stop turkeys attack on Kurdish Forces in northern syria. New video shows evidence of gunfire and shelling in one syrian city along the Turkish Border just hours after the ceasefire agreement was announced. The kurds blame turkey for the violation. Charlie dagata is in the region and filed this report. Reporter good morning. Welcome, a shaky ceasefire and a shaky deal. Not everybody here is happy about it. As for the role of the u. S. Military, theres some serious questions about exactly how the terms of that ceasefire will be implemented. Turkish attacks continued on the border today, breaking the socalled pause in hostilities. 120 hours, five days for the u. S. To facilitate the reason turkey went to war in the first place. The removal of Kurdish Forces from a 20miledeep safe zone along the Turkish Border. Pentagon officials tell cbs news so far theyve received no direction as to how to remove those forces, and theres no change on this americas own withdrawal plan. Still, at a rally in dallas, President Trump painted himself as a kind of playground peacekeeper. It was unconventional what i did. I said, theyre going to a little while. Sometimes you have to let them fight a little bit. Like two kids in a lot, you let them fight and pull them apart. Reporter far from childs play for the hundreds ed and almost 200,000 displaced by the fighting. And Turkish Forces have been accused by a chemical weapons expert of using what looks like White Phosphorous against kurdish civilians banned by chemical weapons conventions. The u. S. Has declared a ceasefire to a war they werent even fighting and enabled turkey to achieve its primary objective which has enraged u. S. Lawmakers on both sides of the aisle. The decision to abandon the kurds violates one of our most sacred duties it strikes at american honor. What we have done to the kurds will stand as a bloodstain in the annals of american history. Reporter now it may be telling that turkeys calling this more of a pause than a ceasefire. Why, five days, thats exactly the time that turkish period erdogan is due to meet with the real power broker in this region, president Vladimir Putin in russia. Thank you. The newest evidence in the impeachment inquiry comes straight from the president s own acting chief of staff, thats Mick Mulvaney, who tried walking back comments yesterday that the president withheld nearly 4 hm in military 400 million in military aid to ukraine while demanding that ukraine investigate democrats. Nancy cordes on capitol hill. Quite the press conference for mr. Mulvaney. Whats the reaction . Reporter democrats see it as an admission of wrongdoing while republicans see them as a headache at best. Even the president s own lawyers were told were blind sided by what he said. Mulvaney is now insisting that this is all the medias fault and that his words were misconstrued. Things have just gone from very, very bad to much, much worse. Reporter after rejecting the notion of a quid pro quo for weeks, the white house appeared to suddenly switch gears. I have news for everybody get over it. Theres going to be political influence in foreign policy. Reporter acting chief of staff Mick Mulvaney said the president did withhold millions in military aid to extract a promise from the ukrainians. This is a corrupt place. I dont want to send a bunch of money. Did he mention the corruption related to the dnc server . Absolutely. No question about that. But thats it. Thats why we held up the money. Reporter hes referring to a debunked theory that ukraine secretly helped Hillary Clinton and that 2016 election meddling actually originated in ukraine, not russia. All roads lead to putin. Reporter mulvaneys comments directly undercut what has been the republican defense of the president. Every single witness, every single fact has not supported any aid pause or holdup in foreign aid being attached to any conditions. Reporter mulvaney also suggested the president wanted ukraine to cooperate with a u. S. Investigation, but a Senior Justice Department official pushed back in a statement saying, if the white house was withholding aid in regards to any investigation at the doj, that is news to us. By nightfall, mulvaney was walking back his comments, saying in a statement, there was absolutely no quid pro quo. And that the president never told him to withhold any money over a server. Impeachment investigators were already focused on his earlier admission. Mick mulvaney basically confirmed to us the heart of the matter here which is the Trump Administration held up by the president s order vitally needed Security Assistance to ukraine for political help from the ukrainian government. Reporter mulvaney did insist the aid was not conditioned on an investigation into the president s potential campaign rival. The money held up had absolutely nothing to do with biden. That was the point i made to you. Reporter but its worth noteding that the president did directly ask his ukrainian counterpart to investigate biden in their july phone call. More fallout from this whole controversy this morning, weve now learned that Energy Secretary rick perry who is under scrutiny for his actions in ukraine has now told the president he will resign from his post. He is expected to leave, gayle, by the end of the year. All right. Thank you so much. Mick mulvaney held that briefing yesterday to make an unprecedentd announcement and triggered even more controversy. He said the g7 summit, an important gathering of world leaders, will be held next june at the president s florida resort prompting new criticism that the president is using his office to enrich himself. Ch f washington correspondent Major Garrett has more on the story. A couple of things. How in the world is this okay, number one . And two, whats at stake here for the president . Reporter well, the short white house answer to question one, gayle, is the president s not going to profit, therefore, its not inappropriate or improper. Whats at stake the merging two of intense lines of criticism of this white house. Both with constitutional implications. As we just heard, theres already the ongoing hous impeachment inquiry, investigating whether or not the president used the powers of the presidency to benefit himself preliminariy in ukraine. Now with the g7 summit announcement, more evidence lawmakers say in an existing lawsuit accusing the president of using those selfsame powers to profit from the presidency. Look at the terrible foreign corruption of the bidens. Reporter the white house announcement comes as the president has repeatedly accused his democratic rival, joe biden, of selfdealing. The bidens got rich while america got robbed. Its not the only place, its the best place. Reporter acting chief of staff Mick Mulvaney said there is nothing improper about doral hosting the summit of foreign leaders because mr. Trump will not earn a profit. I dont care about making money. Reporter according to the constitution, all federal employees are prohibited from accepting any gift or fee from a foreign government. With doral, we have a series of magnificent buildings, we have incredible conference rooms. The ballrooms are among the best igin florida. Reporter doral is one of the properties mr. Trump took out a 125 million loan to buy it. Hes got more invested in doral than he does in, say, the trump hotel in new york or other places because this is his money, and hes on the hook for the loan. Reporter the situation is stressed with Net Operating Income falling 69 between 2015 and 2017. Next years g7 summit will come to doral when it needs revenue badly. June is part of the seasonal slump when visitors ten to shun floridas heat and humidity. Youre going to have not only the business that youre going to get, but you are going to have the greatest advertisement for a property you could ever have. Reporter some white house officials worried about the optics of choosing doral for the g7 summit, but President Trump was undeterred. Those same Officials Say the president never influenced the Site Selection process but readily acknowledged, tony, his advocacy publicly and here could not be ignored. That may have made the difference. Thank you so much. We want to get to dramatic violence that paralyzed the streets of a mexican city. [ gunfire ] Security Forces traded gunfire with heavily armed members of the Sinaloa Drug Cartel yesterday before taking Ovidio Guzman lopez into custody. That is the son of the notorious drug kingpin Joaquin El Chapo guzman. Under heavy fire, Mexican Forces let the younger guzman go. They say they had to to protect lives. Errol barnnet here. This unfolded raply rapidly and violently. Reporter this demonstrates how powerful the Sinaloa Cartel still is despite its kingpin being behind bars. Offices in mexico on patrol when all of a sudden they were fired upon. And it would ignite a deadly longrunning gun battle that police find themselves outnumbered and bloodshed in the streets. It was a battle zone thursday in the city of culiacan, mexico. Xi. The historic homeland to the violent Sinaloa Drug Cartel. Police confirmed they were once they fought back and entered the house, they captured and arrested Ovidio Guzman lopez, a key figure in the cartel after his father, Joaquin El Chapo guzman, began a life sentence in the u. S. Back this july. Washington post Mexican Bureau chief once word gets out that el chapos son has been detained by the mexican Security Forces, like all hell breaks loose. Reporter police appear to be outgunned by drug cartel forces. Civilians ran for safety. Cartel members setting cars on fire to block roads, preventing Security Forces from maneuvering as men with heavy machine guns opened fire. I dont think weve seen anything like this on there scale in mexico maybe ever. Mexicos own Security Forces dont have the ability to defeat a cartel with, you know, all the gun power that the mexican military has, the mexican police. Reporter to stem the violence, Mexican Security officials were forced to release guzman. His father eluded capture for years twice escaping from mexican prisons in mexico before being brought to justice and imprisoned in the United States. Now his son is free after being captured, as well. Its just such a remarkable embarrassment for the mexican government. El chapo has escaped from prison would probably go at the top of the list. This is obviously just after that. Reporter look, mexican authorities arent the only ones who have been trying to apprehend Ovidio Guzman lopez. He and his brother joaquin were indicted on charges of Drug Trafficking here in the u. S. Two years ago, and it demonstrates just how elusive the entire family and this cartel is even for mexicans how powerful dad still is in jail. You set it up by saying they let him go to protect lives yeah, their own. They were totally outgunned there. Part of the reason el chapo was able to escape so many times was corruption. The cartel being so wealthy they can pay off people inside government. On the inside. All the more impressive he was brought to justice in america and is in jail here now. Thank you so much. Four million americans are in the path of a powerful weather system churning in the gulf of mexico. Tropical storm watches and warnings are in effect for parts of the gulf coast. Chief weathercaster lonnie quinn of wcbstv is here. Wheres the storm going to hit . It looks like the big bend area of florida. Lets talk about the storm. Orange burg, 20 inches below where they should be since january 1. If you look at the track, remember those towns, watch this it is going to move almost right on top of the towns that need the water the most. And the amount of rain that were talking about here, the rain totals are coming in from about two to five inches, that big bend area could see two to foo five feet. Louisiana could become the first state in the country without access to abortion as soon as next year. Cbs News Reporters kate smith has been covering the abortion fight in louisiana and joins us at the table. Welcome back. So if abortion is federally protectsed, how is this possible . So, roe v. Wade legalizes abortion, but it leaves a lot of room for states to regulate the procedure. And how far a state can go is exactly what the Supreme Court will be considering next year. Local clinics, they told us that most hospitals dont grant abortion doctors that permission. A new safety study recommends tougher standards for companies that make those incline sleepers for infants. It follows cyrus of deadly incident series of deadly incidents. 59 babies have died in the sleeper since 2005. Several Companies Including fisherprice voluntarily recalled them earlier this year. Our investigative correspondent anna werner has been covering the story from the beginning. What prompted the latest new study . Gayle, the Consumer Product Safety Commission says it needed to know exactly what was causing those infant deaths. It asked experts to do a study. Turns out the study agrees with what parents of children who died have long maintained that the products are too dangerous for infants to sleep in. We spoke to some of those parents back in august. Two months and ten days old. Reporter these parents spoke to us in august just months after their infants died in fisherprice rockandplay incline sleepers. I would like to raise awareness. Theres people out here that are still using the rockandplay sleeper that our children died in. Reporter haley and ty hampsons son liam was 13 weeks old. He was our little baby, our little cuddle buddy. Reporter your cuddle buddy. Yeah. Reporter jonathan and amandas daughter arya was ten weeks old. She was everything to me. Reporter theyre just two of 59 babies the Consumer Product Safety Commission says died in incline sleepers since 2005. Millions were purchased nationwide. We read the instructions, we knew what we were supposed to. Do still my son isnt here today. It says on the box safe for allnight sleep. We didnt think here could be anything out there like that that could say that it was safe for your child to sleep in all night if if that wasnt the case. Reporter but a new report finds incline sleepers are too risky. None of them we feel are safe for infant sleep. Reporter scientist erin mannen led the story commissioned by the cpsc. She and he exar teamned babies movements in several sleepers and found problematic design. Babies are dying and have died in these products, and i think that based on the results of our research, its something that has to do with the design of a product. Reporter pediatric experts say babies are supposed to sleep flat on their backs. But one key problem with infant sleepers, their angled position as high as 30 degrees. Pediatrician dr. Ben hoffman first of all, knowing what we know about babies, relatively large heads, relatively weak necks, the upright positioning can lead to the head flopping forward, and that can block the airway which is devastating to babies. Reporter they cant pick their head back up. Correct. Reporter the cpsc plans to recommend a tougher standard for sleepers, but these parents say thats no comfort. I dont want another family to go through this because it its turned our life upside down. Ripped it apart. Reporter the cpscs new standard would lower the allowed angle of those sleepers. The commission is expected to vote on that proposal next week. It will then be open for comments. We reached out to manufacturers for response, but we did not hear back. You know, ive always thought they were great baby gifts. Ive given a couple in the past. They werent the fisherprice. The the fisherprice recall. What should people do who have a version of it . If you have one, you need to get rid of it. The regardless of the maker. Well, so the question is the incline of the product. You know, if you have a baby, some type of product and you have the baby in that product, you need to watch the baby, make sure the baby is not falling asleep in that product. If they are, get them to a flat sleeping position as soon as possible is what the experts say. When you say get rid of it, you dont mean give it to a friend. Destroy it. Really, like you should be returning it to the company if its under recall, if you can. If not, dont just hand it over to somebody else. The parents that have them really like them. They work. Yeah. I know they do work. The former chairman of the cpsc said that to us last time, she said, you know, the problem is parents really love this product. And many of them even defend the product. The problem is you dont know which baby its going to be. I know. I have a 6monthold at home. We had one, then we got rid of it. We used a baby box. Google baby box. All they need is a Cardboard Box with a flat mattress. They will nap in it. And nothing around them. Nothing. Exactly. Thank you so much. Appreciate it. The white house is trying to contain political fallout on two fronts, impeachment, and syria. There are some serious questions about exactly how the terms of that cease fire will be implemented. Welcome back to cbs this morning. White house damage control is well under way, after President Trumps acting chief of staff said he would tell the military aides to get ukraine to investigate the democrat, something the president has denied. He also mentioned to me in the past the corruption related to the dnc server, absolutely, no question about it. But thats it. Thats why we held up the money. You just described a quid pro quo, funding will not flow unless the investigation into the democratic server happened as well. We do, we do that all the time, with foreign policy. Mick mulvaney referred to a discredited theory that foreign interference with the 2016 election started in ukraine not russia, mulvaney later denied what he said, saying once again, the media has decided to misconstrue my comments, a biased and political witch hunt against President Trump. And former defense secretary jim mattis is firing back after President Trump criticized him during a white house meeting. The president reportedly called mattis quote, the worlds most overrated general. Earlier this week, said mattis wasnt quote tough enough on isis. Well, last night, mattis had some barbs ready during his keynote speech at the alfred e. Smith dinner here in new york city. Known for mixing politics and humor. Im honored to be considered that by donald trump, because he also called meryl streep an overrated actress. So i guess im the meryl streep of generals. Pretty good line. Mattis also mocked the president s deferments from service in vietnam. He said, i earned my spurs on the battlefield, donald trump earned his spurs in a letter from a doctor. A great sense of humor. I hope meryl streep sends him a note or something. Very funny. 48 hours is shedding new light on the misguided police inestigation into the murder of a young single mother in ohio. In 2015, 28yearold Heather Bogle was found dead in the trunk of her car, just a mile from her work. Her murder led to a yearlong investigation. Lead detective, Sean Oconnell, pursued three innocent people, while the real killer hid in plain sight. Cbs news chief investigative correspondent jim axelrod reports. Reporter 28yearold Heather Bogles car was found just one mile from the whirlpool plant where she worked. What they found inside the trunk still haunts current Sandusky County sheriff chris hilton. They found a beautiful young woman who had been savagely beaten and murdered. Heathers finger nails had been cut down to the cuticles. Possibly her murderers attempt to destroy dna. And her hair had been chopped. Imagine taking like a pocketknife and just going like this with it. The hunt for heathers killer dragged on as the lead detective Sean Oconnell focused on three people. Omar satchel, keyona bor and heather jeffrey. Oconnell ignored exculpatory evidence says the sheriff. He intended to indict people for murder that had absolutely nothing to do with it. In a report to the prosecutor, oconnell failed to mention that dna evidence excluded those three people. An omission that would help lead to oconnells arrest, for misleading a public official, and tampering with evidence. Do you feel you owe omar satchel, keyona bor an apology . Why would i apologize . Did they do that . How do we know it for sure . They found it because they found the real killer. Heathers coordinates from her phone placed her in a trailer home 13 minutes after last seen leaving work. We find out later that day, it belongs to daniel myers. Who is daniel . We find out very quickly that daniel worked with heather. We find out that he worked with her that night. We find out that he left approximately the same time that morning. Thats when we went ahha, we got something. Reporter slowly, they began to piece together a disturbing picture of a sexual predator. A man investigators say was focused on control, domination, and humiliation. After his arrest, the Prosecutor Says ten women came forward and said myers had raped them, and this woman, loriann halley believes this is the first murder victim. You believe it was danny. Yes. No question. No question. And jim axelrod joins nus studio 57. Jim, why didnt the original detective have myers on his suspect list . This is what makes it such a rich hour. You have two stories, a brutal murder, and Good Police Work that solved it and really bad police work, criminally bad police work. Blinders. But the question then becomes, was it incompetence . Was it ambition . Was it racism . We will get into all of that. And do they think the police think it could be a serial killer . The thing is, while theyre not ready to go that far, the killer ended up showing signs that this wasnt his first rodeo. He replaced floorboards, and carpet, at one of the murder, at the murder scene, which led investigators to say wait a minute, how did you know to do that . Obviously, he had some experience. So it would be easy to assume that. All right. Jim, thank you. You can see jims report, good cop, bad cop tomorrow 10 00, 9 00 central, right here on cbs. In a speech at my alma mater, georgetown university, zuckerberg defended facebooks decision to allow politicians to post speeches and ads even if they contain lies. Facebook was widely criticized that it was used to spread misinformation about the 2016 president ial election. We are at another crossroads. We can either continue to stand for free expression, understanding its messiness, but believing that the long Journey Towards greater progress requir confronting ideas that challenge us. That brought a sharp response from democratic president ial candidate Elizabeth Warren, who wants to break up facebook. She tweeted, Mark Zuckerbergs speech today shows how little he learned from 2016, and how unprepared facebook is to handle the 2020 election. I dont know if you can define lies as ideas that challenge us. I mean the thing to remember here is that lies are powerful and therefore profitable for facebook, and that context cannot be forgotten as you evaluate that. I dont know how you can be happy as a proprietor of a company, that your company is essentially spreading misinformation. I dont know how you can do that. Certainly a discussion, the two of them should have lunch and let us sit there and recording. A very interesting lunch. We should invite them over here. Thank you. Call or visit as you may already know, were dedicating mos as you may already know were dedicating most of our broadcast next wednesday to a live special focusing on Mental Health. It will be called stop the stigma a conversatin about Mental Health and we want to remove the shame and blame from the discussion around mental illness, diagnoses, and this morning part of our commitment to tackling issues surrounding Mental Health, we are looking at post Traumatic Stress, about eight million adults experience it during any given year, and our lead National Correspondent David Begnaud shows us a powerful play written and performed by military veterans. It is called last out, and david is here to help us understand it all. Good morning. Good morning. So this is a play that caters not only to people in the audience, but also to those on stage, who are putting it on. Wherever you are watching this, just pause for a moment. I want you to be able to sort of reflect and see what we saw when we went to watch the play in chicago. This is put on by a man who spent more than 20 years in the service. And in dealing with his own pts, decided to write a play. Watch this. We did an eagle down. Stevie, who are you working on . Oh, thats me. Has your time in the Service Affected your Mental Health . Yes. It has . For a lot of years, i pushed down a lot of the aspects of combat that i didnt understand whether it was survivors guilt, or mood swings, or a lot of the indicators of post Traumatic Stress. Scott mann was a u. S. Army green beret who got deployed 12 times in 11 years. Colonel. Ired as a lieutenant you can save your own life. His story is told on the stage. Finish this sentence for me. This play for me is a way to heal. Thats what it has been for me, its been an opportunity to just deal with and process and face a lot of the things that i was struggling to either talk about or to express. Since its ricky and danny that are in that the play he wrote and stars in is all about the trauma of war. Youre home. Im not used to seeing people like you be so vulnerable. That makes two of us. Two things for you. Three things for you. Our director, she said, because its three combat veterans, and then ame is a military Family Member so one of the things she said to us right out of the gate youre vulnerable getting killed but on stage, if youre not vulnerable, it will kill you. Every time you have an eagle down, im here putting a next back into the tree. Who sur target audience . When i started, it was civilians who i felt didnt understand fully that we are 18 years into this war, and my oldest son cody was three when the towers fell, he will be an Army Lieutenant next year, likely going over to fight the war that i didnt finish. There are several scenes in the play which can trigger flashbacks. We saw it happen to scott on stage at a rehearsal. That man treating him just follow my hand. And this crew member is Diego Hernandez. He is a clinical therapist who travels with the show. And even treats members of the audience. While we were there, dan millers heart rate increased rapidly, as he was watching the play. It raced up to his smart watch alerted paramedics. He is a 50yearold former marine whose post Traumatic Stress was triggered. It brings back memories of things in the past that happened. And the loss. The denial. Take a little bit of a deeper breath. Once the paramedics cleared him, Diego Hernandez treated him. When talking about post Traumatic Stress, diego and scott mann intentionally leave off the d for disorder. We need to take the d off. We need to treat it like an injury, not an illness, so these very, very high performing people can get back in the game and lead us because we need them. You grind molars into the dust. The more committed we are into the story, the more the veterans settle in and you can feel them going for the ride. And when its over, you just see the look in their eyes. You know it was just, hey, thanks for telling my story, man. You know, treating the people who were triggered as they watched the play was really the most powerful part. You know, hernandez averages about five pts outreaches per city, thats more than 160 since the show began, and the outreach continues tonight, as the show begins a run of three performances, of last outing in cincinnati. Carthartic it seem force all involve and i think he makes a good point which i hadnt thought of, of taking off the d another form of stigma, calling it a disorder. Treating it like an injury. Rehabilitated so you can move on. David, thank you so much. And join us next wednesday for the live special, stop the stigma ma, a conversation about Mental Health and include queer eye star and Mental Health advocate, and over the next week, celebrities and other high profile folks are among those sharing their stories on our digital platforms, today, former missouri secretary of state jason kander tells us about his experience with post Traumatic Stress following military service. I got an update in the beer wars. Between budweiser and coors. A new twist in the remember, corn syrup beer commercial war from earlier . So earlier this year, the maker of budweiser was ordered by a judge to stop running ads that suggested that their rival, miller lite, and coors light, contained corn syrup which apparently beer drinkers dont want. So now the company is accusing miller coors of stealing its secret beer recipes. In court documents, heavily redacted, that were released yesterday, anheuserbusch, claimed miller coors, an employee of, in february, obtained secret recipes, for bud light, and michelob ultra, from an anheuserbusch employee. Now, miller coors meanwhile told cbs news it quote respects confidential information and takes any contrary allegations seriously. I think it is interesting to see our two big brewers in such a big fight. The real reason i picked the story because i checked and bud wise ser a czech word, it means of bud wise, in the czech republic, a bud bar, the greatest of man find. Really good beer. So im told. You said that because you are czech. I am czech. The czech bud wise ser a phenomenal beer. I will take your word for it. And remember we have been talking about millennials and side hustle, maybe all of those side hustles are paying off. A surprising number of millennials in the u. S. Apparently are millionaires. Thats according to a report this year from coldwell banker, global luxury and wealth engine. There are approximately 618,000 millennial millionaires, who have a net worth of more than a million. 44 of millennial millionaires live in california. But the top zip code for young millionaires is, may surprise you, is traverse city, michigan. That does surprise me. 70 million millennials and the report says by 2030, millennials will hold five times as much wealth as they have today, because they will inherit 68 trillion in whats called the great transfer of wealth. Your generation. Yes. What kind of things are they doing, for side hustles making this much money . I am shocked by this number. I dont understand why. A little town in michigan. Why there. Traverse city is a very nice town. There is some pretty nice real estate. And size hustle, in the barbershop or beauty shop, we have bootleg tapes. I might have bought one or two, maybe. Tell me more about that. The transfer of wealth. When did that happen . Im looking forward to the great transfer of wealth. It doesnt come in my house. My is in the been there, done that category. A woman in the philippines became an internet sensation for her airport outfit and five 1 2 pounds of clothes to lighten her luggage because she wanted to avoid paying an excess baggage fee. And you saved 75 and you do it a thousand more times and then a millennial millionaire. There you go. All right. New york times bestselling author and educator simon sinek gave one of the most popular ted talks ever, nearly 50 million views online, sineks talk inspires people to live their most successful lives. Take a listen. If you dont know why you do what you do, and people respond to why you do what you do, then how will you ever get people to vote for you, buy something for you or be more important be loyal and want to be a part of what it is that do you . Sineks new book the infinite game explains how to achieve success of thinking of life like a game with no end. He joins at the table this morning. Gd morning. A game with no end. Life as a game. Is that a good idea . How does that help people . In 1986, a philosopher james carr articulated if you have one competitor, a game exists and there are two types of games, finite games and in fin game, the finite games, has finite players and fixed rules and agreed upon objective, baseball, a beginning, a middle and an and sometimes extra innings. Yes. But it eventually comes to an end. An infinite game has known and unknown player, the rules are changeable and play however you want and the objective is to perpetuate the game. When you have a game with no finish line, there is no such thing as winning because we dont know what the end is, what the metrics are. So what is the difference between somebody who thinks with a finite mind and infinite mind . Can you give examples of those categories. Finite thinker does what . Somebody with a finite mindset is obsessed with winning in a game where literally will is no finish line. So there is no such thing as winning Global Politics or no such thing as winning business. No one has declared the winner of business. It doesnt exist. But when we listen to so many leaders, they talk about being number one, being the best, or beating their competition. Based on what . Ratin advertising. For now. You can be number one for now. So whats the advantage when you shift your tg . O thinking to an infinite mindset in the infinite game, youre actually playing for the game youre. In when we play with a finite mindset, in an infinite game, there is a few very few predictable and consistent outcomes a decline of trust, the decline of cooperation, and the decline of innovation. Which means when we play with an infinite mindset in the infinite game, we will see the increase in trust, the increase in cooperation, and the increase in innovation. Is one better than the other . Because i started out thinking finite is better. And then after reading your book, im thinking maybe infinite is better. Isne better than the other in your opinion . It is not a question of better or worse. It is a question of playing with the right mind set for the game youre. In if youre playing baseball, you have to play for a finite mind set. You cant play to improve because the odds are youill probably lose by the end of the game, because it runs out. Who establishes the rules of me . The rules of the game, the rules of the game. I was told this is not a game, this sur life, your one and only life. It is a game with a little g. The most important thing here is that were so obsessed with winning or losing but really it is the journey. Its the play. It is the playing of the game that is more important. The play is the thing. The play is the thing. You seem to be encouraging people to think outside the box. The more i read about an infinite thinker i started thinking maybe i certainly want to be one, because they do look at things very differently. They look at the value, what the value they bring, and how they want to make the world a better and different place. Absolutely. This is learnable. So key. We can learn to change our mindset. And since i sort of started writing this book, i learned to become much more of an infinite thinker myself. So if something bad happens at work, or something that i think has set me back, or made me feel like a loser, you know, i lost this, you know, whether it is a piece of business, an opportunity, ive now sort of, i remind myself, take an infinite mind set and i think to myself, no, im behind, i haventos anything, you know, im just behind for now and the opportunity is to improve. The only true competitor in an infinite game is ourselves. Your work is also about leadership and you dont have to be in a position of authority to be a leader. 100 true. I know so many people who are at the highest levels of organizations who are not leaders. They have authority, and what they do is they tell us because they have authority over us. How do you be a leader without authority . So a leader, whether you have authority or not, rank or not, is the responsibility to see thos around us rice and , rise and if you make the choice to elevate those to the right and left of you, you are the leader and everyone can be the leader simon is described as a visionary thinker with intellect. You have a little bit of a chance of showers in the north bay overnight tonight but then clearing out on saturday, sunday. We warm up at the beginning of next week getting back into those 80s. Its common for College Students to form bonds that continue outside the classroom. We all know that. But at one texas university, two people share a connection far beyond campus. Theyve got a very inspiring message. You are never too young or too old to pursue your dreams. Janet shanlian joins us with the story. And they have a very special bond. They are kathy and emma, both hope to enter the medical field some day but theink between these two goes much deeper. Th share the same dna. Kathy is emmas mom. When emma walks to class at the university of north texas, she is the first to admit this is not the unusual college experience. I really cant remember the defining moment, but all i was thinking was like, okay, well, you can come to college with me, but youre not going to take classes with me. Kathy earhart not only emmas mom but classmate. Theres stomach pain. Theres missed work. Together they tackle the same toughed subjects in a shared dream. Both want to become doctors. Kathy enrolled after 14 years as a stayathome mom. You dont have to do this at 18. You can do this at 30, 40, 50, 60, whatever age you want, its when youre ready, and when youre ready to give what it takes. But thats not the only extraordinary aspect of this family affair. Emma is a prodigy. A junior in college, majoring in biology, with a High School Diploma and Associates Degree to her name, at just 16 years old. Im supposed to graduate from here at 17 years old, with my bachelors in biology. And get my m. D. At 22. I started school at five. As every kid does. She was 14, and she was stressing over not knowing what she wanted to be. And im like youre 14, youve got time to decide that. Kathy says her daughters drive gave her the courage to finally go for a goal of her own. Its going to take a lot, and it is a futurist, who is to say i forsure get to go to medical school, or something doesnt happen. What started as one class together, has turned into identical schedules and for good asure. Some healthy competition. And it will be i have a higher test grade than you or i did better on this, and were pretty even. The challenge extends beyond emma and her mom. While theyre in school full time, emmas dad handles home duty with emmas two other siblings. It takes a little bit of sacrifice from everybody. Everybody has to have the understanding that the dues have to be paid for these goals to be met. And everybody is okay with that. Joe earhart is wowed by the dedication of the women in his life. Kathy is all or nothing. So she has already thrown her chips in on it. So shes in it for the duration. And emma, shes young and you can already tell that she is passionate about what she does. So i really dont have any worries about them achieving their goals. For all of the togetherness and shared dreams, emma hasnt forgotten she is her mothers daughter. Shes my friend at school. You know, at home, yes, shes my mom, she will tell me, go, unload the dishwasher. But shes not overprotective of me, you know, were both following our own path, you know. But were doing it together. And i think its really, its really special, you know. Special indeed. How are these two doing in school . It is something of a competition. Emma has a 3. 7 grade average and her mom has a 3. 79. Go mom. Go mom. More important than that, theyre on this journey together both chasing a dream. A great family but i could tell you this will never happen in my house. Beautiful family. I love dad.
