Big power outage in San Franciscos Mission bay neighborhood put thousands of people in the dark today. Just hours before the inaugural concert at chase center. The lights went out early this afternoon. Almost 3,000 customers affected about third street by mission bay south. Just a couple of blocks from warriors new home. San francisco fire says its investigating a vault fire in that area at the same time. The outage caused confusion for drivers when the lights went out. That outage did not impact the new chase center. Lets take a live look from chopper 5 over the chase center looking down. After nearly a decade of planning, more than two years of construction, tonight, chase center holds its first big concert. Metallica with the San Francisco symphony. Kpix 5s devon live outside chase center for us right now. It seems like people may have listened to the warnings about traffic and the urge to take public transportation. Lot easier. Reporter yeah, thats absolutely right. Now, tonights metallica concert is going to be the first true test of the chase center and its traffic plan. So far, so good. The street right in front of the new arena is basically more or less empty. Theres a few cars, but not very many. Heres a sobering step. This new arena has the capacity of 18,000. Theres 900 official parking spots connected to it. Compare that to 10,000 at the coliseum complex across the bay. Consider this the calm before the storm. Hours before tonights concert, the streets around the new arena were largely free of traffic. That is expected to change dramatically the closer we get to metallica taking the stage. In the beginning its going to be hard to get in and out. Reporter the new chase center has a small fraction of the parking available as the coliseum in oakland. So the success of the arenas traffic plan rests squarely on convincing people to ditch their cars and hop on public transportation. If you have the valid ticket to any event at chase center, that also serves as your ticket on muni as well. Reporter for a lot of concert goers, it wasnt a tough sell. Its free too, it doesnt cost anything to get down here. Be safe, be responsible and have a good time. Reporter but its not just warriors fans or concert goers who will be affected by event day traffic. The new arena is surrounded by several hospitals and tech campuses. Traffic will be three times worse than before. Its already traffic all the time around here. With the games, concert and everything reporter we want to emphasize there simply is not enough parking for everyone whos coming to the concert to drive their car. Thats why people are really being urged to leave their cars mind and jump on the Public Transit to get down here to the new arena. Kpix 5. Thank you for that. Lets take a look at the traffic conditions around mission bay right now. The street was basically empty. You can see, very light traffic down that south of Market Mission bay area. And just not a whole lot of traffic right now. Albeit, the concert gets going in a few hours. Well see what happens. The freeways though, gotta pack some patience always.
