The Richmond Fire Department is here, chp is here, caltrans is on the way as they try to clean this up. Of course as we approach the thick hours of the morning commute. Animal control is on the way here. In the meantime, as mentioned, you definitely want to avoid this area and traffic is being rerouted around this scene. And from what we can tell, its probably about a quartermile long with all of the Law Enforcement agencies and the fire departments. And animal control on the way. It just blew up overnight, in Riverside County just west of murietta. And there are several evacuation orders in place right now. Mandatory evacuations. As this fire gains steam. It is burned about 1000 acres. Only 5 contained. So schools in the area are closed today. And there are several other fires being reported as well in Southern California as well as in Siskiyou County right now between five and 10. They think these fires are being started by dry lightning. We are keeping an eye on it. Another bay area victim in the dive boat tragedy has been identified. Spiral lanes based in campbell confirms one of the employees, julia crash and maia was on board the boat. She worked at the Cable Company for about six months and lived in berkeley. At least 11 of the victims were from the bay area. We learned to other identities just yesterday. Carrie mclaughlin and christian taxman both worked at brilliant based in San Francisco. Federal investigators have been searching for clues near the site of the fire. So far they have met with victims families and interviewed crewmembers. Five were tested for alcohol and the results were negative. 16 investigators from the National Transportation safety board are expected to be on site for 7 to 10 days. Teams are documenting the wreckage, which is currently submerged under 60 to 65 feet of water. And it is inverted. And the documentation is occurring with side scan sonar so that they are actually mapping the wreckage before it is moved. Also this morning, former crewmember of the conception dive boat is speaking out about the tragedy. Chris conley says you can imagine how a fire couldve ever broken out on board. He says that the ship is extreme and well equipped to handle fires. There are smoke detectors and Fire Suppression systems at several hoses. But conley says theres another reason hes sharing his story. He doesnt want the crew to be demonized. I have dove on many dive boats all over the world and i feel more confident being a passenger on that boat from, one, the crew, knowing that they are very knowledgeable. Safety is first and foremost. The skitter say the situation started when the deputy was called to a home by a woman who needed help with her son. It is unclear what provoked the 21yearold suspect. The deputy was not struck by a bullet but was hit by the suspect during the struggle. The suspect was eventually shot by responding officers and is expected to survive. The woman known for years as emily dell, the victim in the brock turner case is stepping out of the shadows and revealing her identity. A big rig carrying a load of chickens has overturned, catching fire. This is that San Pablo Dam road. These are live pictures right now. You can see in this shot, some chickens are running loose. Animal control has been called in. We got a closer look at the backup and the go arounds. And it will really affect the commute this morning in the east bay. Checking with chp, they really have no estimate as to when the lanes will be open. That means traffic is building and it is in the commute direction. That means it will be a tough one depending on how long the lanes are shut down. This is westbound 80, the commute right at San Pablo Dam road. All lanes shut down. You are back at hilltop at this point. Maybe just beyond that, very slow and go conditions. We have options. They are diverting traffic off the freeway immediately. You are getting right back on. It is not too far of a stretch that you have to travel. Its just everyone leaving their house and trying to get to the eastshore freeway will be caught up in this mess. We are dealing with an overturned big rig that was carrying live chickens. A lot of activity on scene. It caught on fire. At one point, it was engulfed in flames. It will take some time to clear it. San pablo avenue, good alternate, richmond parkway a good alternate as well. Both rfspeeds, sts parallelo stshorfrbay bridge, because a lot of folks are being held up in the backup. So they have a lot to deal with with the storm surge of possible 7 to 8 feet along the carolina coast as dorian moves even closer to the coast. The biggest impacts to the u. S. Will be in the next 24 hours, watching dorian closely. It could make landfall in the carolinas by tonight. Watching that closely and if it moves close not to make landfall, but close to the coast, they will deal with storm surge about one foot of rain as well as Hurricane Force wind. We are on the scene this morning. Mother nature being blamed for an explosive new fire forcing evacuations in Southern California. The latest in fire watch. And a researching Hurricane Dorian is battering the east coast. A live look at the conditions. Good morning everyone. It is thursday, september 5. We have a lot to get to this morning. Lets start with breaking news on interstate 80 and san pablo. A big rig carrying live chickens overturns. And we understand there is a massive cleanup underway. This actually happened a couple of hours ago. You can still see all of the lanes behind me, thats westbound 80 at the San Pablo Dam road exit. They are still closed and thats because all the chp agents and firefighters are looking through the debris. There was a big rig that crashed and caught fire. The big rig was carrying a bunch of live chickens. All of these containers you can see scattered throughout the freeway. Now chp and firefighters seem to be focusing on hillside avenue. We have seen chp rescue a lot of live chickens. The good news is they are live and we can hear them on the eastbound side of 80. This will be a mess for quite a while. Caltrans has been called out to help clean up the scene. Animal control has been called out here. But all of these plans remain completely closed. Probably extends about a quarter to a half mile or so. Chp will be giving us an update in a few minutes. We will work our way down to the freeway to try to talk to someone and get the latest information for you. We will give that to you as soon as we can. In the meantime, gianna has some workarounds for this area. Hopefully people can get to where they need to go, because westbound right here is just a mess. You definitely want to avoid the area if you can. In the meantime, at least until we know when the lanes will reopen. There are surface streets as options. You can use san pablo avenue and richmond parkway. It will bog down a little bit when more people get on the roadway. Right now, its still pretty early. This is west 80 right at San Pablo Dam road. All lanes are completely shut down. We see a backup beyond health pop at this point. Service , san pablo avenue, those parallel to the eastshore freeway, you can use bart as well if you want to skip the roadways. We will keep you updated as to when the lanes will reopen. A messy situation taking it slightly easier at the bay bridge. A lot of people on the bay bridge, Traffic Building just a little bit. Just past the 880 overpass, not quite to the maze yet. A little bit of good news once you get past the accident on the eastshore freeway. What a traffic mess. Right now, 150 mileperhour winds, dangerous storm surges along the coast. 175,000 homes are without power. Lets look at some of the damage in the bahamas after the storm hung out over the bahamas for about 48 hours. At least 20 people are dead and the rescue efforts are rway. The a t places thafficulto get right now. The 20 people that is expected to rise as they continue to search more areas and we keep an eye on dorian for you. Crews are on the scene of a wildfire raging in Riverside County. Tina patel is near murietta with the latest on the fire line. This brushfire continues to burn this morning. If you step out of the way, you can see it on the hillside. The good news is that the wind has died down in the overnight hours and it doesnt look like the fire is growing or getting any closer to homes right now. Tning co be the poppedup cause. Because the winds were gusting, the fire soon got out of control. We are told there hasnt been a fire in these canyons in 20 years. There was a lot of fuel to burn. More than 900 acre soon went up in flames forcing the evacuation of about 400 homes. About 1200 people affected. Cal fire aircraft has been flying overnight doing water drops and they have dozers and ground crews trying to make headway on the fire while the conditions are favorable, but mandatory evacuations remain in place this morning. The crews are hoping that as the sun comes up, they will be able to get in the air and map the fire and have a better idea of what it is doing right now. But right now they say safety is number one concern which is why theyre keeping the evacuation orders in place for now. Federal investigators continue to probe the diving but fire off Southern Californias channel islands. 34 people were killed monday morning. The remains of all but one of the victims have been found. Investigators are taking a close look at another boat owned by truth aquatics. It is a similar setup to the one that burned and sank.
