The fire is burning in the foothills near a born road near san jose evergreen neighborhood. Kpix 5s anne makovec is following the fire from the live news desk. Reporter been watching video from chopper 5 overhead. The fire has been burning for about 35 minutes. And already you can see all of the ground that it has covered. We are hearing between 40 and 50 acres, but it still does have the potential to grow significantly. There on the righthand side of the screen, you can see some of the red material that a flame retardant that calfire has been dropping, trying to protect the homes. It is burning very close to them right now, and we were watching some buildings burn earlier. Those are only outbuildings. Those are not homes we are talking. There were garages and sheds and other things. It looks like two or three small buildings that have been burned so far. It looks like the fire did not spread to very the homes. It has cleared back and let of the ground brush, which is exactly what firefighters tell you to do so you do have the opportunity to protect your home. The smoke that you could see, it is visible all over san jose, from downtown san jose, north near the airport. Just a massive amount of smoke has been coming off of this 45 acre fire this morning. It is now considered for alarms and as michelle mentioned, this is near the the foothills of east san jose. And a lot of dry grass is there and just the terrain. The fire has been able to move uphill very easily. Your from the life pictures that we are seeing the tree burn, and luckily the fire was stopped once it actually got to the roadway. But this is just west of grant county park, and we have seen several airplanes from calfire, as well as helicopters dropping water and dropping the flame retardant. We are continuing to monitor these pictures. We know that the homes in that community are considered threatened. You can see, this might be a home that is on fire. This appears to be a building. We dont know if it was something that somebody was living in at that point, it appears to have fire and smoke making it difficult to even see from chopper five pictures. We are keeping an eye on this. This may be the first home 12 fallen victim to this wildfire that started at 11 15. Kenny and michelle, i will throw it back to you. We are looking at one building which looks very close to a home. Maybe an out building. It is still a small home in the foothills. Do we know how many structures are engulfed in flames. We do not have any information on this at this time. When firefighters attack a brush fire and it is threatening homes, some homes, structures are in flames at this point. A woman was pulling out the parking lot at the stripmall at the capital expressway and she was trying to make a right turn. Two men on bicycles were traveling southbound the same direction that the suv was turning. Both of the men were hit and went down. The driver stopped the suv but parked at a sharp angle in the middle of the street. She remained on the scene. Paramedics took both men to the hospital where one was pronounced dead. The other did suffer life threatening injuries and is in critical condition. The were both wearing helmets. This is a bike lane out here and traffic laws say the woman shouldve yielded walk traffic. Spec anytime youre exiting the i department have to go to pedestrian vehicle check it traffic as well as bicycles. The bicyclist would have the right of way because they were in the roadway, traveling southbound on vista park. She was exiting a parking lot when this happened. Detectives say he confessed to three murders. The most recent killing, his brother, shamus at the familys home in forest hill in march, 2017 and as authorities questioned him about that, they say that he gave him information on a cold case murder back from 2000 for, and information that only can the killer would know. It was a double shooting of two engaged camp counselors. They were killed while asleep on a beach in 2000 for. The 22yearold lindsay of ohio and 26yearold jason of michigan.
