A brush fire in san jose damaged a couple of homes is afternoon in communications held. There were several fires burning at the same time. The damaged buildings are on carol drive, additional fires broke out along highway 87. Simon perez joins us live are from carol drive with the aftermath there. Simon reporter we saw some fire trucks pulling out a few moments ago so we are in the final stages of the mop up phase of this blaze. You can see how the flames charred most of the hillside here on two medications help. This is the south side of the hill and around the bend on the north side is ready flames damaged those two structures. The San Jose Fire Department and cal fire both showed up to knock down the flames from the air and from the ground. About 90 minutes ago governor gavin newsom declared a state of emergency for kern county following the strongest earthquake to hit Southern California in two decades. 6. 4 magnitude quake struck about 10 30 this morning. Near the town of ridgecrest. It has generated more than 150 aftershocks in the hours of sense. That was a good one. One homeowner Security Camera caught the moment the shaking started and you can see the whole room swaying pretty violently as things toppled off shelves. The intensity of this quake leading to evacuations, including a local hospital there in ridgecrest. And one expert predicts there could be something more to come. There is a one in 20 chance that this location will be having an even bigger earthquake within the next few days that we have not yet seen the biggest earthquake in the sequence. That is interesting. Were fire doors can be opened automatically. Water valves can be set to protect water supplies. Trains can be slow down, so we are working with bart.
