We will keep you update on new information as it comes in. Pride weekend in is in fullswing. Marches will start at Market Street near the Embarcadero Bart station and walk two miles down to civic center plaza. If you are heading to the area, be prepared for plenty of street closures. The San FranciscoPolice Department is reminding parade goers to leave bags at home and allow extra time to get through the security. And not to a bring alcohol because there will be no open containers allowed on city streets. The 27th annual dyke march rolled through the mitch and castro yesterday. Many rode motorcycles or danced and performed all decked out in the rainbow best. Its a tradition for hundreds of participants. Especially now in the difficult political times, where everything is so precarious, basic human rights are precarious. Peoples human rights el impot to stand out and prd. Wh does word mean . For us, it means we are proud lesbians. That are excited to be here and we are not going anywhere. Expect a heavy Police Presence and leave yourself extra time to get downtown. And keeping with sf pride pray digs, hundreds of volunteers have installed the massive Pink Triangle on top of twin peaks. The triangle once used to identify and persecute gays is a symbol of San Franciscos pride celebration. Its crafted for more than an acre of cloth and can be seen for 20 miles. The perching triangle will remain on the mountain until tomorrow. But the question, will there be sunshine or fog for todays pride parade. Lets check with in darren peck. It will start out w the this from the camera on if you plan tot for pride rly. Thats the low gray sky over much of the city. Not just the bay. But much of the city is looking at gray skies. Here the snapshot forecast for pridech the parade starts at 10 30. Plan on low grade cloud in the low 60s. But the question is, how much of this day is going to look like that, and can i give you a specific forecast on how the clouds are going to be behaving today. I have the peninsula outline. I put pride showing you where the parade is going to be. Theres the time at 6 a. M. Plenty of low grade clouds to start things off at 6 a. M. By 9 a. M. , its thicker. So its going to stay gray through the early morning. Little bit. Ill melt back by 10a. M. Cloud have cleared a little but it has the city into the gray. Late morning, by the time we get to 11 a. M. More sunshine and we are socked oaf here the west half of the city. We get to noon or 1, plan on more so shine. Event at selfcenter or cast civic center or castro will clear out. By the time we got to 4, the clouds will come back the it will stay in the low to mid60s throughout the day. We will be back with more on the rest of the forecast in just a few minutes for now, guys, back over to you. And kpix5 will provide you with an exclusive live stream of the parade starting at 10 30 a. M. Today. Just go to kpix. Com. Turning now to campaign 2020. Bay area voters crowded into a restaurant in San Francisco to see senator and democratic president ial candidate Kamala Harris. People lined up for a chance to see her in person. It was billed as a fundraiser and celebration of pride weekend. Last night harris officiated at same sex weddings as San Francisco da. I was proud to be there. Walking up the steps to San Franciscos city hall in february of 2004. To perform marriages. Thank you. Thank you. And lets remember i was at a time when there were democrats around country saying civil unions will be quite enough thank you. Right . We said no. We said no. Harris credited Governor Newsom who was mayor at the time. Her speech was briefly interrupted when a woman appeared to faint near the front of the crowd. She and her its aes helped the woman move towards the stage and two men helped that woman walk towards the door. And before senator heiress made her way back here to the bay area, she and 19 other democratic president ial hopefuls duked it out in two debates. So kpix5 phil matier and i asked willie brown if it was like the mayors debates. We didnt have all of that kind of talent out there. The motives been on program with was like 5 or 6. And 3 or 4 of those were people with nothing else to do and they left the homeless shelter to come run for mayor. I mean,. We get some of of that with the Public Financing i think. No. Youve lot more of that. And in the old days you have Angela Alioto and actenburg andjordan and brown and thats it. Every time. But it was just so many and the questions seemed to be so repetitious. Gun control. Climate change. Nothing new. Well, its really hard when everyone has 30 seconds or a minute to respond. You are raising your hand over who is the biggest threat. I mean, the number of people really makes it necessary to kind of move around a lot. I got to tell you, the senator from hawaii treated it exactly. Congresswoman. Yes. She she is a major in the military throw times, and no one in the world had any idea who that brunet was standing there al know in a i guess a patriotic suit. She was really welldone. P when they asked her question, she skipped a question and went straight to her profile. Thats so. Okay. Appropriate. She did her google searches the highest that night and gets to the point, which i know you will appreciate, how much fund raising is feeding into what these guys are trying to do. Its not just let me connect with voters and let me introduce myself, they needed to get up there and raise their profile. Gabert was one who did. If you treated it other than a ad opportunity you are wasting your time. This was an ad opportunity. You are not running for president. You are running for the democratic nomination. Hopefully you will get the nomination, then you run for president. But until then, its strictly the way of a world visavis the candidates. You know we talked about this yesterday and said because of the format and the number of people on the stage at ti atter shot. So who emerges from the two debates. Who would you talk that. Some people like mayor de blasio or Kirsten Gillibrand distingedwshed themselves by interrupting other people. You can get good or bad attention. I still say, cut the mics. Thats my advice for the next debate. At some point it has to go down. Moving on, today President Trump became the first sitting u. S. President to step foot on north korean soil. He met with north Korean Leader kim jong un. South cree hean present was there for the proceedings. And just an honor to hereou step over the line and i was proud to step over the line. United states and north korea has teams to resume the nuclear talks. President held a press beefing behind closed doors with kim jong un who said we are looking to get it right. The meeting lasted longer than was initially expected. Following the meeting with the Korean Leaders at demilitaryized zone, the president addressed u. S. Troops stationed at Osan Air Base in south korea. I actually stepped in with chairman kim i stepped into north korea and they say they say thats a historic moment and i think its a historic moment. And a very good moment, and heasked me would you like to do that. And i said it would be my honor. The progress with north korea comes after President Trumps visit to the g20 summiter with says beijing has agreed to buy more goods from american farmers. We will be continuing to negotiate, and i promise for at lowest the time being we wont lift tariffs on china. Despite the statements on china President Trump faces questions after a meeting with russian president putin. Where he appeared to make light of accusations that russian operatives interfered to secure him the prez president ial election. That trump Putin Meeting was the first between the two since the release of the mueller report. President trump is on the way back to washington, d. C. And is expected to arrive in the next few hours. And President Trump says that ice raids are back on the table and may happen after the 4th of july. He postponed the raids in 10 cities including San Francisco earlier this month saying he wanted time to perhaps negotiate changes to asylum laws. That hasnt happened. Vigils are planned tomorrow at 2 east bay churches at 6 30 in oakland and st. Clement church in hayward. The time is 6 10. After the break, congressman Mark Desaulnier joins us they discuss spending billions at border. People are making money off the suffering and cruelty and. [ inaudible ] Animal Rights activists and horse trainers square off in the wake of a horse racing law. Were not going to make it. Oh, were going to make it. Woo. Good morning. Joining us is Mark Desaulnier. This morning i picked up the news paper and there appears to be a small bit of agreement in washington about the border. Congress approved a 4. 5 billion dollar emergency humanitarian money to help the kids. To help whats going on down there. But it had had a tough time getting out of the house among democrats. What was going on . Well, it was a long negotiated process. Senate passed the bill we passed. And then at the end we were getting new stories about private contractors, and Border Patrol not providing the kind of support for the families and kids while they wait to get processed. So waed language that we hoped to make sure they would get proper protection and coverage. What was the language added to try to get something done here . What was the tugofwar. Democrats were split on this how can you be split on humanitarian its a. Thats a good question as someone who supported the progressive caucus and is in the progressive caucus. We wanted language that was enforceable to make sure the department, the department of Homeland Security did what it is required by law to do and the courts are telling them to do and they have been ignoring it. But there was others that said lets get it and they prevailed. They did. Why . I dont have the full inside story you have a makeup war majority of democrats but theres differences within the group. And then the republicans were going to vote for the senate bill. So, we had to get it done before we left. A lot of us were willing to stay, but the decision was made at the. How close did it come to gridlocking . I think we should have stayed the weekend and put pressure to get as much of the language in because we will continue to see stories in spite of the extra money of us, the u. S. Doing things we shouldnt be doing. What does it say about nancypelosi and the caucus. She. Is it split . Its split but thats part of being a legislative leader and shes good at it. She has had to do it before but its a constant effort. When we look at this bill and stories about the children, we are facing this unprecedented at the border. We have never seen children coming across like this. Whats pushing this. The basic problems is the triangle countries where therule of law is broken down. They are trying to get out. And there are people risk in poverty and theres a story in the New York Times the family whose picture is in the favor the father and son floating they were making 300 a month so they wanted to get into the United States. They probably would have been granted asylum. Okay. But we have had this situation in central america. What changed on our side that made it the kids suddenlyattractive to come up. No. The situation is worse in the countries. Some are because we have been successful in colombia reestablishing a rule of law and getting the cartels where they are controllable. That is problem that changed. And we have to adapt. We are not doing a good job. Theres a legitimate issue at the border. Too much volume for the infrom astructure and personnel to process. Calm months ago we were being told i was reading its a manufacturing crisis. Then it is not. What is it . I think its manufactured in the sense the president did it from my view deliberately to stoke racial divide in the country. He is doing it. Are other people denying it . I dont think so i think if we had a functioning federal government and functioning administration in congress we would sit down and negotiate a bipartisan deal. Thats one bell i told you about before that would do that and solve a lot of larger problems. If enforced. Thats right. This goes. History we have repeatedly done compromises about Immigration Reform and when we pass them, we say its time to enforce it it falls apart. This is something thats unique. Immigration is part of the country since it was found before it was founded when people came from europe on the mayflower. People immigrated from here. So we struggled with it and the irish and italians we struggle with that. Thats open borders. Then there were quotas established based on which country you came from. Its always part of the American History to deal with immigration. We need to deal with it on a policy level and stop making it a political issue. But you have politics and policy but again, we had a compromise worked out between kennedy and was it bush. Okay. Or years agop and this was going to be road amnesty and everybody said we solved it and we never enforced it. Regan. Regan. P and the argument against what they did then was it created amnesty so the argumentof the right is that will ep courage people to come if they know. It reminds me of bart we pass the rules, and then everybody just passes through and you go okay, now we have a problem on out trains. But they have been countless exam wes where we got it right and theres countless where we got it wrong and this is a instance. We will get at that in a little bit. Because when we get it right some people say we get it wrong and when we get it right some say we got it wrong. Congress Mark Desaulnier. Right, wrong somebody knows the weather. Its easier in relation to what you are trying to work out. I will show outview. Just outside the Golden Gate Bridge today because its the best way to get a handle on the marine layer is up to. And sure enough, its coming through the gate. Low cloud have obscured the top of the tower. Now thats one view on the start of the day. But thats usually the more extreme view. The top of the trans america tower to see what things look like over the bay. U to expect bray skies. Theres the view over the bridge but you get away from the bay like right on the edge of it or through the golden gate and its sunny. San jose, we are waking with up with a few high clouds. But none of the low gray stuff. In san jose nays 57. 53 in San Francisco. 61 in concord right now. So lets track how long this gray is going to last if we watch it on the futurecast at 6 a. M. We have got it in and around the bay. Over the peninsula and burns back through the late morning. By the time we hid 10 or 11, its the city and coast looking at low, gray clouds and it will stay that way much of the morning i showed you that in detail when we went into what toke expect for pride today at the top of the newscast. You have to expect a lot of gray skies for the start of pride or anything you are going to do for the end in afternoon. It build back in again by sunset. We will see the low clouds overtake the city and work their way out over the by a. This is a healthy influence on the day. As far as what it means for the rest of us. Sunshine inland. 88 in concord. San jose topping out at 80. Santa rosa with 82 and plenty of sunshine. 77 in redwood city and mountainview at 75. We are leaving behind, we have this one fire clouds thats been overhead all night. Thats clearing out. We are going to get more sunshine but will feel the influence of the weak area of low pressure that broke up into a bunch of low areas of low pressure thats been holding the weather much the way its been and we are not going to see a change here at all, really, in the next over next 7 days. I mean, its going to stay in the mid80s for highs through until we geto the end of the coming week and we will be near 90 inland. It will warm up. 4th of july locks great. A little above average and plenty of sunshine if you make your plans now. And thats coming fast, guys. I know we were focus on pride as we shed be but 4th of july is thursday. I cant believe its july. I just. Fast. Yeah. We have fast forwarded through half of the year. We. Yes. And it gets by quick. And at least it will be sunny. We are at 10 a. M. , we started to burn some of this off. But its going to take a while. By the time we get to 11 a. M. Second half of the city is gray. More breaks of sunshine. And particularly right through the heart of the city for civic center and parade route. Expect more sunshine as we get through the day. By 1 00, it will be a few clouds out there. And the temperatures will stay in the mid60s the it will be a bit breezy out there as well. So just go prepared for a typical day in the city for late june early july which means agray start and partly sunny finish. It will be in the mid60s by the time things are going strong at selfcenter or in the castro. Lot of other things going on this weekend. I want to talk about those as well. Including the 4th of july forecast. See you with that in a few minutes. Now back over to you. Thanks darren. And, of course, the pride parade starts at 10 30 this morning. Yesterday, we saw thousands of people colorfully dressed enjoying the sun and music in celebration of pride. The celebration at city hall includes more than 20 stages and venues. Donations raised to go to more than 60 nonprofits. They say its about fun and love and pride. Its such a fun amazing experience where you can be with people from all different walks of life. Everyone is like truly themselves here and everyone accepts everyone. Its no judging at all. Gives people a chance to just have an open mind and let everybody know its okay to be whatever you are. Another hot spot at dolores park. Several hundred were lounging in the sun participating in the dyke mark and rally. It wouldnt be pride in San Francisco without the Pink Triangle. Volume untowards arrived before dawn to install the symbol. It was once used as a symbol of persecution of gays in nazi germany but is now a symbol of San Franciscos pride celebration. For many, its particularly meaningful on what is the 50th anniversary of the stone wall riots in u new york. When i see the symbol, i think of the people who went through difficulties before i was able to enjoy the freedom that i do today. And its so much humility and respect for the people and appreciates for what they have done. The Pink Triangle will remain atop twin peaks and will come down tomorrow. Kpix5 has you covered with an exclusive live stream of the parade starting later this morning at 10 30 on kpix. Com. And we have a multivehicle crash on highway 24 to report to you. It left one person dead and one more person seriously injured. The crash happened at around 2 this morning in the westbound lanes just st road and Contracosta County near arenda. One person was taken to the hospital by helicopter. All lanes were reopened around 5 this morning. We will keep you updated on new information as it comes in. As the 4th of july approaches Contracosta County is hosting a Fireworks Take Back Program for the first time. It comes two weeks after fire crews blamed illegal fireworks for sparking a brush fire in antioch. To prevent this from happening again, the county says you cadrop off illegal fireworks this weekend with no questions scad. You can face a misdemeanor approximately any charge depending on what you are caught with and we give you the opportunity to bring them in and we will take them off your hands. Fire stations are holdingdrop off efence. The east contracosta Fire Prevention district will accept firewos untithe infeth gethe condo complex under construction in santa clara on friday. El camino real off pierce street is back opened this morning. And fire crews have cleared out of the 56 unit property and turned it over to the owner. Investigators are expected to interview workers and be review footage and images to establish a timeline for when that fire first broke out. Anyone with information about the fire is asked to contact the santa clara fire department. And onto campaign 2020. 20 Democratic Candidates for president debated this week in miami florida. Several candidates including senator Kamala Harris took the opportunity to challenge current frontrunner joe biden. Kpix5 phil matee ari asked former San Francisco mayor willie brown to name the winners and losers. 1, 2, 3. You start first night you know it was the lady from boston, Elizabeth Warren the brother from new jersey, mr. Booker. And then of course. What . Day two. No, no you have one more. Youve got the guy wh althe da2, itall alone. There was nobles when the debris cleared harris was standing among a lot of people who were asking help me up. Can you heap me out here. Well,. Hes little hyper. Well, i think theres no question harris absolutely dominated the second debate. Pete buttigieg what couple great moments but i think the big news from the second debate is how disappointing joe biden was i feel like his inability to answer questions from harris that were totally foreseeable on issues that have been swirling around. He should have been able to answer and he didnt have good answers for that. And believe it or not, he didnt follow my advice i said joe, make the announcement and dont come back until on day. Go somewhere. Ive done that with candidates whom i was pushing that i knew could not stand the test of time. I would accepted them on vacation until the election day. Therefore no one got a chance to inspect him. Biden cannot stand inspection. I can tell u you as a media person who covers politics, the Biden Campaign is notorious for being very press shy. They dont like people to interview. They the mayor Pete Buttigieg who is opened to questioning and lets the press have free reign but biden has been taking the mayors advice and really limiting the amount of media and press coverage he has. I mean, yeah. But the debates for better or a worse will be a showcase and they will either expose strengths or you will have necialghts. Thats true. And theres no hiding. Its the one place all candidates do have to go. We have seen his polls subsequently show hes the frontrunner but has taken a hit. All right. New video shows the aftermath of a deadly street race crash that happened in east oakland last night about 5 p. M. Firefighters had to cut through the top of the car to get the driver out. Police say the driver were race eastbound on san leandro near 51st avenue when one of the drivers lost control, swerved into oncoming traffic and hit the sidewalk. Once the vehicle left the roadway hitting the sidewalk it flipped twotimes and then hit a stationersy light pole. The vehicle bent in half as in the shape of the v. And the driver was killed at the scene. Officers say the other driver took off. They are asking for the communitys help to help identify the other driver. And police say the preliminary investigation suggest the driver died was in his 20s. And still to come, a Police Department in Contracosta County is about to lose we will tell you what it is and why. And a plane stolen out of a santa cruise county airport. How thieves pulled off the heist. Good morning and happy pride weaning. Joining us state senator scott wean. Its been 50 years since the stone wall riots. Where were you when the riots act occurred. I was not even in my mothers womb. I was born the next year. Which is the ron i wanted to talk to you about this. As a gay man, you generation of the post civil rights movement. You grew up your life post stone wall. Coming out, all of that, do what was it like and what is it like being in society more accepting . Well, when i was growing up and teenage in the 80s, it was still enormous homophobeo and there is today but more then but i knew as a teenage, what it was like to be scared to be out and to be who you were. But, i am also fortunate that you know things started to change really quickly. Yeah. And i am so grateful to the people at stone wall, people in the 50s, 60s, 70s fighting to crow ate a world where i can out and proud of who i am. Out and proud but we have the president ial contender. We have a its an interesting phenomenon within one generation we have gone from in the closet to Pete Buttigieg known as i cant figure out if he is mayor pete, gay or reserveist who served in afghanistan all three together, hes polling well and people seem to be just as accepting of him as nibbles. Yeah. And even though for the record. This is a symbolic candidacy. Its not. And i am supporting Kamala Harris but i am glad we have a openly gay candidate who is getting traction but we have seen homophobe yo and hatred directed at mayor pete and so, even today, theres still a lot of work to do because theres a lot of hatred directed at our community. There is a lot of advancement as well. And a lot of we the disipt in dublin about questions about whether the flag should go up but thats not so much about gay rights it was about whether we are going to let everybody put up a flag. Flags will be going up left and right. And dublin did the right thing in the end. And all of Alameda County is part of that. So, gay marriage, huge victory. Gay rights huge victories. Where does it go from here because pride in california for example is an ongoing Political Organization and machine. And they tend to take on a life of their own. Where is it next . We have had amazing victories in passing laws and civil rights protections, but we have huge challenges as a community. When you look at Homeless Youth, almost half are lgbt. We are disproportionately represented among Homeless People a lot of people in the community struggling to Access Health care. And lgbt seniors are more at risk of isolation of going into a nursing home and having to go back into the closet. Is that a legal or a societal or familiaro thing because they are isolated from their family. Where is it. For even seniors they are less likely to have Adult Children to look out for them. They may have gone through the aid epidemic and lost bulk of the Social Circle and Long Term Care facilities some are great but others are in dealing with lgbt people. So theres a lot of work to do. What about the youth . Well,. Kids being thrown out of their homes . Yes. Lgbt kids are thrown out of the homes and run aways ending up homeless and sungar to sex work and its big problem. And its enormous bullying against our kids. And theres still too many schools that are not welcoming to lggt kid. Its the work thats still huge. Where is it going in the next years. In california, we are doing a lot of work to support our Homeless Youth and to try to help them and to make sure theres a bill to train every teacher in the state of california about how to interactand educate lgbt kids. Is there a politician in the city that wont be at the pride parade. I believe every elected official will be at pride which is a great thing. And you will be there too. Yes. And. 23 years i been doing it in 23 years . Yep. What are the changes have you seen . Its huge now. And we have some of the companies that come out with thousands of people and on the positive side, its more people engaging in our fight for civil rights. And sometimes it can water it down a little bit because its not what it used to be in terms of the really hard core. You are accepting. I welcome everyone. So republican wanted to march in the parade and republican log cabin group and. Everyone is welcomed. Shouldnt say welcome there are not hate groups that shouldnt come but log cabin brothers and sisters i disagree for being republicans and they are welcome in the parade. Theres the spirit. Now the spirit outside scott wiener state senator what will he look at at the parade. Every other politician in the city and every body who works here at kpix we will be there except me. Everybody had to go and they are sending me to a festival. I will give outforecast coming up. Lets show you what it looks like now. The best way to get handle is look at the cameras we have all over the bay. First, look. Low clouds, write over the bay bridge but more come in right over the golden gaa different perspective. San jose, waking ttsunsdifferto because you nt have e streamer. Stfeys. Had nsis d to e e lotus dsbut v high level cloud and you dont have those now and wont for the rest of today. It will be sunny for the rest of the day down here in the south bay. And if we look east, this is dublin, there are the high clouds. They are leaving. Thats the trailing edge and those are the stragglers and they will be out of here for the next two hours and nothing but sunshine inland. And if we watch the way the day progresses, i will burn back the marine layer to right about 11 a. M. And by that point, west half of the peninsula, west half of the city is going to be under gray skies. Stern grove is gray. The pride parade and all the other events happening should get kind of a mix of cloud and sun by the time we get past 11 this morning. It will start out gray. I showed you that at the top thenewscast. But we will burn the clouds back by late morning. Underneath, heres what the temperatures will look like. 66 in the city. 64 at pacifica. 80 for and so hey. 81 livermore. Theres Mountain View coming in at 75 and fremont at 77. These numbers are on the mark for average maybe a degree or so above it. By the time everybody gets to civic center, mid60sp call it partly sunny. Think you will get more breaks of blue sky and theres the pride forecast on hour. See the sun breaks out in the middle of the day. And remember, the clouds will come back in. If you are out celebrating by 5, 6 this evening, clouds will come back overhead. Alameda county fair not for you, pleasantton sunnylow 80s. Stern grove festival. 65 and cloudy and cool. Music starts out this once we get in the early afternoon around 2, and it keeps going. Get there at noon. Theres festivities going on at noon. And this is stern grove on the west side of the city. Its going to be gray. So if you going and coming out i. Hope you say hi to me i will help host the event. And make sure to dress for cloudy and shacool and by the late afternoon, we might get breaks of sun. Having said all that, 4th of july is coming. Fast. On thursday. It will be sunny and it will be warmer. And it will be a bit warmer than average with plenty sunshine. All right. See you later. An east bay city is suspending a Crime Fighting tools over fears the data could fall into the hands of federal immigration agents. Richmond police cant use automatic loysence plate readers they are ending the contract after learning they store the information and does business with ice. Police say ice has no access to license plate readers but many Richmond City leaders are skeptical.
