And neda is seeing more snowfall. Yes, snowfall in our local hills. So its also happening in the sierra. But east of san jose snowfall is coming down. In our area the showers and wind have arrived. We heard the howling overnight. I certainly did in San Francisco. Heres the snow flurries. These are the hills by mount hamilton, lick observatory, that area on 130. Definitely going to get a little dusting. Its very light. The amount of rain very light. Fremont raining. Along 680 across a lot of the south bay will be slick could get a little rain. Probably in the form of a drizzle. So the areas of very light green is where its just drizzling. You may need to use your windshield wipers once or twice as jaclyn did earlier. Santa clara coming down lightly and a little bit of rainsnow mix. Thats that slush that happens when its just cold enough. So some of that could actually cause some slick roads if you are heading that direction and then along highway 1, as well. Its coming down a little bit stronger south of the park so if your route takes that you way to rohnert park, keep that in mind. Higher elevations we are seeing snow coming through so lake tahoe, 80, 50, they are expecting to see snow today. Theres actually a Winter Weather advisory for a lot of the sierra all the way down to 2,000 feet in elevation. Thats where were expected to see snow flurries for our hills and santa rosa 30 degrees right now so below freezing but the rest of us pretty warm. Temperatures in the 40s because of that cloud coverage associated with the rain thats coming down. Also want to show you the winds. We have winds coming in from the northwest, west winds at sfo 15. Pretty strong in fremont right now at 11. Just picked up there. Oakland winds sustained at 18. So San Francisco also. We are going to continue to feel the breeze today with gusts in the local hills in the 40s, perhaps. It could be strong across many areas. Im not sure if the wind was the cause of this accident but we are tracking a twocar crash in fremont along 880 northbound just as you approach thornton. You can see that one lane is blocked and speeds are reduced about 50 Miles Per Hour heading through that stretch. Your travel time remains in the green but likely to jump into the yellow here. In fact, a lane is blocked for any longer. Right now we are tracking a pretty busy ride along 580. This is the westbound direction, headlights moving towards you, 24 minutes between 205 and 680. No reports of any accidents or problems on the stretch. A big backup developing at the bay bridge toll plaza. Look at those cash lanes. Almost to the west grand overcrossing. If you have fastrak, good to go in the green into San Francisco, 10 minutes. That doesnt mean you get to shoot either one of them. You have to give them an opportunity to comply. If they dont comply and looks like one is a threat to another person, then you do get to shoot them. Reporter the question thats not clear from the video, what prompted the officer to open fire . The chief says thats still being investigated so it is a question he still cannot answer. Joe vazquez, kpix 5. Bart is moving forward with plans to build a second transbay tube. The price will be up to 15 billion. Hundreds of thousands of commuters pass under the bay every day. And after 20 years of talk, bart is spending 200 million for a look at a second bay crossing. We have talked about reaching our existing capacity in the mid 2020s with the existing transbay tube and so were going to have to put something on the table. But there are some tough questions that need to be answered including the route from the east bay and where it would land in San Francisco. South of market in the Mission Bay Area where we see that growth, is it going to be in the traditional downtown area of San Francisco . Thats one of the most important questions. And another issue a new transbay tube will likely mean either digging up or digging under alameda island. Bart promises to have something on the table by the end of the year. Time now 4 42. Its been one year since widespread flooding for thousands of san jose residents from their homes. How one mans loss brought him a lifelong friend. 36yearold alan chow was last seen on his way to the hetch hetchy tra this morning an oakland man is report missing in Yosemite National park. 36yearold alan chow was last seen on his way to the hetch hetchy trail on saturday. He did not return home on sunday. Searchandrescue crews started looking for him on tuesday. Tuesday morning, the first thing we did was call yosemite to doublecheck, you know, hey, did, um, alan chow check out at all . They said he signed in but never checked out. Mainly, that he is injured there. Thats the main thing im worried about. Another concern, the weather. It was forecast to be 14 degrees in yosemite overnight. This week marks one year since floodwaters inundated neighborhoods along san joses coyote creek. Thousands were forced from their homes and some are still struggling to rebuild. Kpix 5s maria medina has the story of a young man who who lost his home but gained a friend. Im not a strong believer of, like, destiny and fate. Reporter xavier may not believe in destiny, but he does agree he wouldnt be here if it werent for a flyer he had seen on the San Jose State University campus that led him to cackling crow. I saw her flyers and i wanted to do something for the homeless. Out of 33,000 students on this campus, about 300 at any time are homeless. Reporter kathleen is the chaplain at sjsu. Last january, she decided something needed to be done to help homeless students. Little did she know, one month later, heavy rain would cause a massive flood forcing thousands from their homes. The actual damage is about a foot and a half of water inside. Reporter including xavier, the student who just a couple of weeks before had called kathleen wanting to help the homeless. His next call to her is one they will never forget. I called her i was like, yeah, im homeless now. I said well, you just come on down, lets see what we can do. Reporter she found a temporary home for him converting an art room at a church. So do my homework and stuff here. Reporter into a place for not only xavier but several other struggling students. Xavier said had it not been for kathleen, he would have likely slept in his car or dropped out of school for a semester. I dont have many places to turn at this point. Reporter xavier loves his lost his home one year ago but not his determination to continue following his dreams with a little help. As much as the world seems like a cruel cold place, there are people out there willing to end a hand. She is looking for donations. Go to sjs students for students who need a place to live. We have been trying to come up with Creative Solutions for homelessness. It would be nice to have a heater in a lot of our homes. Yeah, right . Some kind of circulating heat . Its hard. Its been very chilly, of course, as we felt all week long. We had warm weather for a while and now what a shift. My goodness, we are seeing snow in the local hills. So yes, around the south bay thats where its happening. East of san jose, look at this. The amount of snow thats coming down is increasing. This cell is coming down all right, not expecting much measurable snowfall. It will be a light dusting or not sticking. But its exciting. Here we are around interstate 880, 680, light drizzle coming through. So if you are coming through milpitas or through fremont expect light rain. Then theres slush in the hills. Anything above 2,000 feet or possibly even as low as 1500 feet could see snow slush mix with temperatures at the top of the hills cold enough. On 17 through lexington hills, theres a chance for a few flurries to come through that way. And highway 1 definitely right along the coastline expect a little light drizzle across much of the southern portion of our area. The sierra is expecting to see some snow flurries. It hasnt quite gotten there yet. This is the one hour loop so we started to see it pick up in quincy and susanville. But its going to be moving towards lake tahoe and so northlake, southlake, the whole area could be impacted. As low as 1,000 feet possibly could see some snow flurries there because it is cold along the foothills, the mother lode, the whole area under the Winter Weather advisory leading to 3 to 6 for some of the tops of the ski resorts there up to 10 inches in some areas and the heaviest snowfall expected this morning and again this afternoon. So low visibility, snowy roads, so please keep that in mind. You will have to go very slow if you are heading out there to try to get some of that fresh powder. Satellite and radar showing we do have cloud coverage associated with the storm and thats why a lot of our temperatures are not that cold. We are in the 40s for oakland. 48. 44 for livermore. 1647. Of course it feels colder because you have winds. The windchill factor is definitely out there this morning. Heres your futurecast. So through 10 00 or so we are going to see continued scattered showers. This afternoon it could pick up, and thats when we may see a chance of thunderstorms and hail. So once the heat of the day starts, its going to cause a lot of instability. And thats when we tend to see those thunderstorms. So expect to see that throughout the day. Strong winds throughout the day today. We could see breezy conditions at the coast and the north bay hills. As far as the thunderstorms and hail go its most likely going to impact the north and east bay hills but those are hard to predict as far as where exactly they are going to hit. So just keep that in mind throughout the day today. High temperatures will feel like this. 50s in the area. I want to talk about the amount of snow that could come towards the sierra. Three to five inches possible for some of the ski resorts and look at mount shasta, they could see as much as 11 inches. So your tahoe report futurecast is showing a change in our pattern so well get a lot of storms coming in from canada for the next few storms that are coming in. The next wont is monday of next week. But its also the next one is monday of next week but its also similar with scattered showers and chance of low elevation snowfall. And if you are planning on heading to the sierra, right now no chains required on 80 or 50. But we do have the crews screening for chains eastbound at applegate. Make sure you have them for that ride. 101 near north first street, traffic fine in both directions in this part of 101. But north of here we are tracking an accident involving an suv and semi and this is northbound 101 at lawrence expressway three lanes blocked. No delays at the moment. It may slow down. Well keep an eye on it. Chp heading to the scene now. Also reports of a wrongway driver multiple reports coming in of this driver traveling southbound in the northbound lane so please be careful. If you know someone on that portion of 280, maybe let them know to look out for that. 4 52.
