Thats what a lot of vineyards were dreading, 20s throughout a lot of the valley and east bay. Fairfield just dropped to 30 degrees, so we are below freezing in many areas. Parts of redwood city 31, then on the other side 37 degrees. So it just depends. Some valley spots are colder right now because that cold air didnt mix. So we are under a frost advisory around the coast and bay, except in the city of San Francisco. Everywhere else is under a frost advisory, frost likely with temperatures in the 30s. Please bring the pets in if you have not done so. Check on the people you love, be sure they are doing okay. Most of the inland areas are expected to hit the mid20s to low 30s today. We have been below freezing for a lot of neighborhoods overnight and well continue to stay cold until the sun comes out and warms things up. We are getting reports of a wrongway driver in oakland if youre heading out, northbound 880 at the 80 interchange. We cant see it here, but chp is responding to that call. No significant slowdowns so far with that report. Well keep an eye on it for you. No metering lights just yet but give yourself a few extra minutes. Back to the freezing temperatures, they have dipped to dangerous lows across much of the bay area. We have low temperatures this morning and yesterday there was frost on the camera. In the Santa Cruz Mountains we saw a few snowflakes yesterday. They didnt stick but they did get a dusting of snow there in the mountains. Back out here, take a look at the giant thermometer and see temperatures hovering between 30 and 32 degrees this morning. Definitely feels like it, and driving around through some of the neighborhoods here, i noticed a lot of plants out and some sprinklers on as well. So bring those plants and pets in, and take care of those pipes this morning. For many the bitter cold can be dangerous. We are in front of the San Francisco general hospital, where they have a shelter thats open, 30 beds for folks who need it degrees the cold snap. This is really a dangerous time for those folks camping and living on the secrete. Its estimated there are 7500 Homeless People and officials really hope they go into shelters. They are expanding hours at different shelters. One of the shelters is opening on 6th street and that will be open 24 hours a day, serving hot meals there. Thats through wednesday morning. The other shelters in the San Francisco area, First Unitarian Church and center at 1187 franklin street, and the Mission NeighborhoodResource Center at 165 cap street, the United Council of Human Services at 2111 jennings street, open 24 hours a day through wednesday morning with 100 spaces available. Workers are really hoping folks come in and use these services. Its tough because there are a lot of people that dont come in. You know, there are more people out there that dont make it in. We wonder whats happening to them. Reporter Officials Say anyone who needs a warm bed can come in after 8 00 p. M. Regardless of whether or not that person has a reservation. A lot of folks may be on the street and need help, and you can call 311 to get help for that person and get them in a shelter. Police are investigating an explosion along blue jay drive and bitter way. Police say a device exploded right in front of the house last saturday around 1 00 a. M. They are not releasing any details on the device but multiple people were inside the home at the time and no one was hurt. An actor from 13 reasons why is expected in court this morning. Police say brian bach burglarized homes in marion county, where he was once a care giver before landing his part on the show. He visited former clients to discuss his role on the show before returning to break in and steal valuables. The alleged victims are in their 70s and older. Hes charged with nine counts of burglary and will be in court at 9 00 this morning for a preliminary hearing. The Family Housing nikolas cruz say they took the teen in because it was the right thing to do after his mother died. We are getting reports of some debris in the lanes in the northbound direction at mission boulevard, so a heads up for drivers there. South bay checking in problem free, 101 remains in the green and 280 moving right at the limit. No reports of accidents stalls. A greet view of San Francisco this hour. If youre in the north bay, 27 degrees and i feel for you. All the spots below freezing for several hours overnight and they will be cooler for the next hour to two as temperatures drop even more. East bay is also very cold. San francisco is 41, still feeling pretty cold outside everywhere you go. San josi 37 degrees, and how does that compare to some of the records . Are we going to break any records this morning . Napa could break the record set back in 1920. Some of the other locations could get below 26 degrees, and that would break a record. San josi wont get that cold this morning, so slightly warmer. Anything in the 30s doesnt exactly feel very comfortable. Afternoon highs are also colder than average, san josi 55. Along the east bay temperatures are in the low to mid50s. They will continue to get colder as we wait for the sunrise. Just before sunrise temperatures will be at their coldest. We are expecting numbers to drop a couple more degrees throughout the morning hours. Oakland 34 this morning, and a lot of east bay in the upper 20s. With low temps, many farmers are concerned frost could damage their crops. About a week ago, farmers had unseasonably warm temperatures, and now they are bracing for a cold snap. One cherry farm had sprinklers fired up throughout the night. The farmers say the key is keeping the soil wet. The ground water temperature is about 57 to 62 degrees, and we are trying to keep the soil and temperatures slightly warmer. The water helps warm the surface and keeps the shallow roots of the tree warm. And cold temperatures are impacting the south bay this morning. Reporter the imposter phone scams are soaring. This is where someone pretends to be from the irs and contacts you. They state, you owe back taxes and threaten you with jail time if you dont pay. A lot of consumers are giving in, paying through a prepaid card, wiring money, even and itunes card. The other scam thats old but definitely picking up, criminals are sending emails which appear to be from the irs. Instead, they install malware on your computer, allowing access to your personal information. The irs never initiates contact through texts, email or other social media. If you get an unsolicited e mail that claims to come from the irs, dont click any links, and forward that to the irs. How can protect ourselves . Reporter well, they file a return on your behalf. Even if you owe money, try to file early before they can get busy. If youre the victim of tax refund fraud in previous years, the irs probably sent you a special filing pin. That needs to be entered along with your return to file. If youre working with a tax professional, be sure they have a tax preparation number, certifying the person is authorized to prepare federal tax returns. And store important tax documents on a thumb drive, and never give out personal or Financial Information to someone who contacts you. San mateo bridge, still 13 minutes to get over to 101. This is the westbound direction of the berkeley curve passing powell, and we have crowds developing. Just in, sfo reaching 36 degrees, breaking the record set in 2011. Oakland tied their record from 2006 and napa breaks the record set back in 1920 for the morning lows. Doesnt look like were going to break records but a lot of locations in the mid20s this hour. We have 34 in oakland. This is where we should be on average, usually 48 degrees in San Francisco, oakland 45. Look at where we are. Yes, temperatures are several degrees below average this morning and will stay below average for the highs as well. Some cloud cover throughout parts of the central valley, but for us we are seeing just a few areas, also right along the coast. Once that sun arrives and we see the sunshine, dont let it fool you, only 48 in pacifica today and 54 in palo alto.
