The super bowl. Well go live to minneapolis for a preview of the game and show you how organizers are dealing with fans at the coldest super bowl ever. And we begin with todays eye opener. Your world in 90 seconds. I think it is terrible what is going on in this country. I think it is a disgrate. Republicans release the memo. Recriminations fly. Thats it. Thats all theyve got. This is what all the hype was about. Are there other memos. You said this is phase one. This completes just the fisa abuse portion of our investigation. It is absolutely shocking, it is stunning. We were promised to crack and out pops a minnow. An angry father lunges at larry nassar who victimized his daughters. I did not think wanting to kill him. But i did want to inflict some pain. A funky flu at the e. R. A pennsylvania woman is going on a rant about the flu. A shocking video shows close proximity between a drone and a passenger plane heading into mccarran airport. Police in michigan are blaming a massive highway pileup on the snow. 17 semis. A free fall on friday could lead to a manic monday. The dow dropped by nearly 666 points. All of that and nasa curiosity rover is sending back spectacular images of mars. A small focusing camera on the end of the curiosity arm snaps this. And all that is next. Robert is on the tee at 17. Oh, goodness gracious. So close to going in. Wow on cbs this Morning Saturday. The week began with the state of the union and it is closing with the release of the memo. Republicans talk about this memo. Like it is some smoking gun piece of evidence that they uncovered. No. They wrote it. It is not an intelligence document, it is a Facebook Post that you briefly skim before clicking unfriend. And welcome to the weekend, everyone. Im anthony mason. And im alex wagner. We begin with the document that is deepening division in washington and raising the stakes of the russia investigation. Republicans on the House Intelligence Committee released a memo authored by chairman devin nunes despite strong objections from the fbi, Justice Department and democrats on the committee. It accused the fbi and Justice Department leaders of abusing powers to spy on a former Trump Campaign adviser. Suspected of working for the russian gofd government and the document includes information declassified by the white house is intensifying the partisan battle over russia and its role in our president ial election. Errol barnett is with the president in West Palm Beach. Good morning. Reporter good morning. The president ignored warning signs from the fbi. Deciding instead it is in his best interest to release this republican authored memo which affectively raises a cloud of doubt and suspicion over one aspect of the special counsel russia investigation. I think it is a disgrace. Reporter President Trump made clear his frustration with the fbi handling of the russia investigation. A lot of people should be ashamed of themselves and much worse than that. Reporter illustrating his point, mr. Trump approved the release of a full page memo from republicans on the House Intelligence Committee. It claims before the 2016 election fbi agents relied on a politically motivated dossier compiled by Christopher Steele and seeking permission to monitor trump adviser carter page. The memo said when agents went before a secret fisa judge they didnt mention steele was being paid by the clinton campaign. They wouldnt have received a warrant without the dossier. Reporter devin nunes whose team drafted the memo defended the release. We had to take all of this information and reduce it down into a summary with just the pertinent facts about the fisa abuse. The only area im familiar with that we left out would be the history of carter page. Reporter adam schiff, the top democrat on the Committee Said the court was told steeles work was likely politically motivated. This wasnt about oversight. This was about telling a political story that is helpful to the president. It is about telling a political story that is designed to injure the work of the special counsel and to discredit it. Reporter the fbi opposed the memos release citing grave concerns about material omissions of fak. For example, fbi agents knew russians were courting carter page three years before the dossier was written. Fired fbi director james comey called the memo dishonest and misleading. Saying it destroyed trust within the Intelligence Community. The release of this memo is going to do some very serious damage. Reporter former director of the cia leon panneto echoed that sentiment. The president and congress now have a position of distrust with the Justice Department and the fbi. Reporter amid the turmoil, President Trump refused to vocali vocalize his opinion of the man in charge of the russia investigation. Deputy attorney general Rod Rosenstein. You figure that one out. Reporter now the white house said President Trump made this decision with input from the National Security team and members of the Intelligence Community for whom he has great respect, they tell us. Meanwhile democrats on that same committee have their own memo. It is still waiting for declassification. Errol barnett in West Palm Beach, thank you. For more on another eventful week in washington. Were joined by bob cusack. Good morning. Good morning. How significant is the impact of this memo. It is significant in that it raises question but weve only seen the republican memo but we havent seen the democratic. Will we see the democratic memo. I think we will. Because republicans got so much heat for not releasing at the same time. And will the memo answer those questions. But it is another example of how the house Intelligence Community is broken. And how does the work of that committee continue. That is a good question. Members on both sides of the aisle are calling each other liars. They are saying Different Things about what is in the memo and the veracity of it. I think it is difficult. The senate Intelligence Community works very different and very bipartisan. This memo advertised as one thing and has it delivered on what it advertised. I think everything in washington is overhyped and i think this was overhyped but it does raise questions of what they told the fisa court. Did they not give the information fully that this was paid for by the Democratic National committee and hillary clinton. And there is the question whether that matters because the memo does not seem to say the intelligence presented in the dossier was somehow compromised. There is a question of sources partisanship and what meaningful affect that has an on investigation. Right. I think the bottom line is the memo is making the case that the fbi was unfair and violated carter pages rights. Now the question is that accurate. Now peter king said there should be hearings on this. I think this is a good idea. Everything lets get everything out in the open. All out there. And ask questioned. And they renewed in order three finals. And when they go back to the court they cant present the same case. They have to prebts present more. And a lot of this is about Rod Rosenstein is there is speculation that trump would fire because he set up the special counsel and that would lead to the end of robert mueller. Paul ryan said these are separate issues but Rod Rosenstein is mentioned in the memo. This is not the only skirmish. We know the Justice Department has an i. G. Investigating the handling of Hillary Clintons email investigation. What is happening there and how measurably could that affect an already polarized dynamic. That is the most underrated stories that is about to happen. This Inspector General report is being written by someone respected on both sides of the aisle and worked on bush and obama and now looking at the comey investigation. And chris wray has seen preliminary findings of of this report and that led to d. O. J. Official Andrew Mccabe being pushed out. And maybe criticism of james comey himself. Interesting. At the same time we began with the state of the union that people called unifying at the time. At the end of the week we dont exactly feel unified. No. Trump did get a bump from it. But at the same time i dont think it moved the needle and some republicans and democrats say it moved them further away from a possible deal on immigration. So trump got a bump but at the same time i dont think hell get a lot of what he asked for. Bob, what happens with the looming second Government Shutdown this year. It is basically less than a week way. I dont think well see a shutdown next week. The democrats move last time backfired and now i think theyll punt again into march. And then that is where were dealing with the dreamer deadline. All bets are off then. I dont know how the story ends. But i think theyll punt congress is good at punting. A super bowl weekend. A good metaphor. Do the democrats feel theyve completely misplayed this last time. There are conservative democrats up for reelection in 2018 for the senate. They got nervous and didnt want to be plamed blamed and i think that is the driving force and Chuck Schumer learned from that and will use a different playbook this time. Bob cusack. Thank you. And tomorrow morning on face the nation Margaret Brennan will speak with trey gowdy, the chairman of the House Committee on oversight and government reform. Friday capped off the worst week of losses on wall street in two years. The Dow Jones Industrial average lost 665 points yesterday. The biggest oneday selloff since the brexit vote in 2016. Reporter later he told us what he wanted to do when alone in the room with nassar. I didnt think about wanting to kill him, but i did want to inflict some pain. Well look at this bright idea ahead on cbs this Morning Saturday but your campaign about racial your campaign about racial harmony, what are you seeing that is disturbing you that you said i have to do something. The biggest thing that disturbed me is the social structure and infrastructure in schools and in our community that are pushing away from intercessionality of being a black person and a woman and a girl and theyre not including all of us. But they are thinking that because you are black and because youre a woman we are trying to create a system that supports but not thinking about the point of intersection between the two when im a mix of both and include me in both of the realities and not just one or the other. And what about your friends in terms of racial harmony. I have a Diverse Group of friends and we try to be open about whether or not we feel like someone made a joke not appropriate or saying something that was not educated a response to a question. Which i know makes it sound like were really p. C. , or like this. But we have a lot of fun so we try to keep it loose because not every conversation is going to have perfect knowledge with things that we say but we want to always stay educated on things happening in our community and the communities that surround us. What are the things and advice you give in terms of being an activist. I think the biggest thing is success is not measured by whether or not you are on cbs this morning or whether or not you make the wait a second, marley. Depending on where you are in your career. Step back. I will reverse. But i mean that it is not measured by the things the place you go and the materialistic things but the people you touch in the places you are servicing. So im serving black girls and educators and all kids to see the beauty and diversity of people but i want to make sure that everyone knows when you help that one person or give back your full energy, you are helping Somebody Just as much as i am. So all these medicines whale thigh do help a lot of people are based out of lottery and it is probably one of the reasons they take so tloj work. Theyll take weeks to months to work and so heres a medicine that people can take infrequently that is based upon a theory of the brain that makes a lot more sense and it works almost immediately. Reporter stallings didnt have time to wait. She had an especially hard time over the holidays and when her father got sick, she thought about taking her own life. He says the drug is not addictive in the way opioids are, but could still be harmful in the long run. There is at least evidence in animal modals that these types of medications can actually cause some damage in the brain, but we dont know where that level is. Reporter dr. Levine says he monitors patients closely. In our population even people who have been having ketamine on maintenance baycy for six years now, we have not seen any sign of that. Reporter for Anne Stallings, despite the unknowns, shes content with a chance to feel normal. And some attacks may have already begun. Wired has been covering these concerns. And this morning were joined by editor in chief mikolas thompson. Good morning. Its dark stuff. Whats happening over there. So what we know so far is there are two major hacks. The russians were mostly banned from the olympics, and theyre not happy about that. So theyre hacking into individual athletes, theyre hacking into organizations, theyre trying to show that russia is not the only country that dopes. Weve got fancy bear on the russian side doing that. Secondly we have another large hacking organization. Were not exactly sure who it is. Possibly north korea. Ke cant be certain. Hacking into basically every Olympic Organization including the ski resorts, tourism boards. We dont know what the intention is, but lots of hackers have already compromised lots of computers. Wow. These are already the most hacked games ever, is this correct . I think its fair to same. Its a little hard to define, but i think we can call it that. This is not uncommon though, right . Olympic games have been hacked before. Its a political event. Hacking is part of every Major Political event it is. This time it will be particularly part of it because russia got band. Theyre not happy and there are a lot of hackers in russia. They really set themselves up for this to be complicated. As you mentioned, several sp been targeted. We dont know the intention, you say. Its partly to show doping and make things confusion. There could be much darker intentions. It could be hacking to get information. Lots of rich people go, celebrities. Maybe somebody figures out way, to i dont know, screw up the figure skating judging and you have an International Disaster and the wsof 8case scenario is the power goes out or Something Like that. You say olympics are a political event. If north korea is one of the hacking parties, what are the implications for that detente if you can call it that . I dont know. The warning has been going on for not that long a time. The hacking has been going on for much longer. It may be the case that north korea started the hacking operation before the slight detente. It may be that north koreas doing this anyway to have a little bit of leverage and it may be the case somebody else is doing it, not north korea. If youre attending these games, do you need to worry about this . Yes, you do. You need to be careful and use good computer hygiene. Use twofactor authentification. Do not open any suspicious looking emails. Turn off wifi and bluetooth when you dont need them. You need to be careful. You may want to get kind of an old computer that doesnt have personal inform snoogs i have one of those. My old clam shell mac in the orange color . Bring the clam shell mac and delete all your fires. And revisit your emails from the late 90s. I would delete those, too, before you head over there. Nick thompson raising the red flag of warning. Reporter if youve ever wanted to experience the heyday of las vegas when elvis and the rat pack ruled the strip and towering neon signs beckoned gamblers to sin citys earliest casinos, then you may have hit the jackpot. This week the las vegas neon museum, a boneyard of former casino marquees, brought dozens of the citys retired signs back to life. Surprisingly, though, not a single broken light bulb was replaced and none of the rusting metal signs are plugged in. Instead, these relics lit up thanks to projection mapping, a type of augmented reality that projects digital animations onto the existing signs bulb by bulb. The cost of restoring the signs the traditional way would have been in the millions. This whole project is the brainchild of digital artist craig winslow. This is las vegas history, and these signs are very important, and theres a lot of like emotion in them. And im working with the neon museum to make sure were authentically showing what they used to light up like, not just shooting in the dark. Can they do a Digital Projection of me winning at the slot machines . That would be cool. Now, that is a great idea. I love that theyve done this and i love the way that they did this. Yes. Very cool. Old school and new school. Exactly. Another lively place this weekend, the super bowl city of minneapolis. I was doing a background on a day show piece and she was doing a piece on black hair in the military, hello, hello, hello. We hit it off and i asked her to cohost with me at a standup show in manhattan and she said yes. We had magic instantly. It was like a great tinder day. A great tinder day. But to go from podcast to tv where we can see you and hear you, whats been the biggest change, challenge. Spanx. A lot of spanx. We got our nails done, hair, makeup, wig budget. It was amazing. No. I think the format of our podcast is we host the show and then we have a lot of standup storytellers and celebrity guests on the show. We always try to make sure we have women, people of color, lgbt community. Its really nice. We basically took that and made it into four taped hbo specials and we taped it at the kings theater in brooklyn, which was lovely. Did that former podcast help you to work out your relationship . Its like an acoustics set. Is that where you worked it all out . Its like the grateful dead. Were like fish, the black female fish. No. Sbenlt so much time. Weve been working together almost four years. We spent so much time just hanging out, prepping for the show, going to concerts, or like talking trash about people or like whatever. Federal investigators are looking into a close call between a flying drone and a commercial jetliner near las vegas. And make coffee great again is a slogan used by a Coffee Company run by military veterans. Well show you just how theyre unconventional business is brewing. But first the latest on our top story. The newly declassified memo about the russian interference in the u. S. Election. Written by congressman devin nunes sh the chairman of the House Intelligence Committee alleging the Justice Department and the fbi abused their powers to spy on a former Trump Campaign adviser suspected of working for the russian government. The document was looes released despite strong objections from the fbi and Justice Department and democrats in the House Intelligence Committee. Errol barnett is with the president in West Palm Beach, florida. Good morning. Reporter good morning. By approving the release of the memo, President Trump has made clear his displeasure with the ongoing russia investigation and deepened concerns among democrats that he may dismiss those overseeing the probe before it reaches the conclusions. This is how it unfolded on friday. After getting mr. Trumps green light. Devin nunes, the republican chairman of the House Intelligence Committee released a gop summary of what they see as willful omissions on the part of the fbi. The memo claims before the president ial election agents relied on a politically motivated dossier from former british spy Christopher Steele in seek a warrant to spy on carter page advising the Trump Campaign at the time. It suggests the judge of the secretive fisa or Foreign Surveillance courts with not told of the steele democratic funding. But adam schiff, the top democrat on the intel Committee Said that is not accurate and he is pushing to release his own memo based on the same intelligence. Schiff said republicans are trying to discredit the ongoing russia investigation. When asked about the republican memo, President Trump said it shows a lot of people should be ashamed of themselves and when asked if he still have confidence in his Deputy Attorney general Rod Rosenstein. Who is overseeing the investigation. President trump said only you figure that out. Errol barnett in florida with the president. Thank you. With more we are joined by mark masetty, a washington editor at the new york time and in our washington bureau. Good morning. Good morning. The scandal of the memo, if there is a scandal, is a warrant to surveil carter page and back and forth is whether or not the fbi failed to disclose partisan kks corrections that Christopher Steele may have had. He is the author of the dossier. What do we know about what the fbi disclosed or did not disclose about partisan affiliation. Youre right. That is the central issue. Boil everything down and it gets to this question of did the fbi tell the court that Christopher Steeles information was politically motivated, that he was being paid for by democrats, and that issue is still in dispute. The memo that nunes released yesterday said the court was never told of any political affiliation steele had. And the democrats were pushing back and say that is wrong. He the court was told. So even after all of this buildup, this question still is unresolved and will still be part of the battleground going forward. Marc, there is a democratic memo, a rebuttal to this. Will we see this memo . Nunes said yesterday that they will put out the democratic memo. It has to go through a declassification process. I dont know what that will be. But he is saying that they will put it out and again this is going to continue to feed the dispute. You would have thought that this issue would have at least been resolved, the facts would have been resolved by the time the memo came out but it created even more controversy and that is something the democrats will continue to push back on because it is a central issue. Folks are saying the real bombshell in the report is that itt it inadvertently confirms that the source of the fbi investigationaz not carter page but the former trump foreign adviser george papadapoulos. That is right. In december the times reported that the information had been given to australian diplomat during a night of heavy drinking in 2016 was the trigger for the fbis investigation which began in july of 2016. It was not carter page, it was papadapoulos and a couple of other elements. The nunes memo confirms that and that carter page, the fisa warrant for carter page came later. A couple of months after that. So it was actually something that confirmed and kind of undercut the argument that conference ca that republicans were making, that carter page was central to this go ahead. One other point is that it was puzzling that the republicans decided to make carter page part of this big campaign after the white house spent a year distancing themselves from carter panthers. The papadapoulos piece is meaningful, right, because the idea that somehow the carter page piece of this is go to discredit the Mueller Investigation, and well if george poppa lop dus is the true source doesnt it suggest the investigation is legit mass, im matter cha the situation with carter page. It revealed the fbi investigation which mueller had taken over was before carter page entered the picture and this fisa warrant was uses. This is a proxy battle for the Mueller Investigation to discredit the Mueller Investigation. And what we sort of saw yesterday was that it didnt really do that. It didnt discredit the Mueller Probe because we learned that the mueller the fbi investigation which mueller took over had begun long before carter page entered the picture as a critical target in this. Marc, thank you for being with us this morning. Thank you. The fired state worker who sent that alert warning about an inbound missile heading to hawaii last month said it is utter hell for him and his famili family ever since. He said he received Death Threats and he truly believed the islands were under threat while he was made out to be the scape goat, they changed their story when the fcc investigated this week. There are new calls for stricter flight regulation after an apparent close call between a drone and jetliner near las vegas. Bumpadum, bumbumbumbum we are one day way from the big game. Tomorrow is super bowl lii in minneapolis. The new England Patriots are looking for their sixth super bowl championship with all five previous wins under the tom brady Bill Belichick regime. Their opponents, the Philadelphia Eagles, are after their first ever super bowl title after two appearances including a 205 loss to brady and the pats. Braving the cold to join us live from minneapolis is cbssports reporter jamie err dahl. Jamie, good morning. How does experience play in . Its been a huge factor in the story lines this week not just a game perspective but how the week plays out. It can be an eyeopener for players who have not played here before. Its been more xs and osoriented oop but for the eagles, a lot of them have not been here. Coach doug peerderson made them sit for an extended period of time so they make sure they know bhat feels like to come off a 30plus minute versus 14 or 15minute time whereas the patriots know having played in the super bowl last year. A vast experience for these two teams. Jamie, we have arguably the greatest quarterback of all time, tom brady, going up against phillies nick foles. David and goliath. Tell us about that matchup. Reporter from pape eric it certainly looks as if thats the way its going go. Tom brady has defined go lie act as the quarterback in the nfl. This is his eighth super bowl. Hes on the vuerge of winning hs six sixth. He had hand surgery earlier. Some joke hes having a sixth finger put on for the sixth ring. He could play the david role. However, ill tell you his teammates dont look at him that way. He may have started the season as the backup quarterback for the eagles. However, this is a pro bowl quarterback. He started his career with philadelphia. On paper this could be seen as a david versus goliath matchup. Break it down a little more, jamie. Talk about the strengths and vulnerabilities of the two teams. If were talking super bowl, im going to say tom grady one more time. He is the strength for the patriots. However, they were pretty much at the top of every category statistically throughout the season. But what makes tom brady so good. One of those guys he almost didnt have this weekend was tight end rob gronkowski. He suffered a concussion in the afc championship just two weeks ago. He did not clear the nfl concussion protocol until thursday of this week. Tom brady called gronkowski a force within this offense, so just noop another weapon brady has this sunday that the eagles will have to deal with. In terms of weaknesses, i would say not too many when you have two teams who have done so well to reach the super bowl stage. Jamie erdahl, all eyes will be on minnesota come this weekend. Thanks for your time. Thanks. It is a brew born on the battlefield thats become a hit here at home.
