Of a sideshow bystander standing too close. He gets hit, flips over, nearly losing his pants. And now this. More video emerging from a recent sideshow. Participants say it was in east oakland only this time a sideshow bystander is firing off a fully automatic handgun with a high capacity magazine. When we slow down the video, you can see him holding up his phone inone hand and firing a handgun in the other. How have things changed . Years ago weve always been advocating for safe and sanctioned events. I seen it happen. Reporter back in 2005 this man organized sanctioned sideshow events. Thats not how your sideshows used to start, correct . Absolutely not. A sideshow at its core is a social interaction. It was about men and women. It was about boy meets girl. It was about trying to show off to get attention and there are certain things that you didnt do because you did not want to scare people away. Reporter we showed the Oakland Police department this video. Opd says it discourages illegal sideshow activity and has a detail that specifically detours sideshows. How did it get to this point, to this level . Well, lets be honest. Monkey see, monkey do. Obviously they didnt create the gun or violence. They definitely didnt bring the guns to oakland. So if were going down this rabbit hole, lets go all the way. Lets not just stop at the easiest target. Reporter when hes talking about an easy target, hes saying sideshows as that easy t sideshows now are illegal in oakland and statewide, for that matter. Any chance that we might be able to give people what they want, a sanctioned sideshow, in the near future . Reporter theres been some talk of having it outside the Oakland Coliseum where theres an empty lot there. The gentleman you saw there is hoping to have a town hall meeting with another community activist, ken houston, to kind of have a dialogue between sideshow enthusiasts and city leaders to maybe work out something. Well keep you posted when that town hall is and see if that happens down the road eventually. Thank you. A San FranciscoKindergarten Teacher arrested for an incident in a school stairwell. Youre looking live at the Nations Capital where President Trump is about to deliver his first state of the Union Address. Hell be facing a sharply divided congress and country when he takes the podium about an hour from now. Cbs reporter mola lenghi joins us live from capitol hill with what we can expect. Reporter yeah, ken. The white house says the president s message tonight will strike a unifying tone as he delivers it to what is very much a divided congress and a divided nation. President trump is expected to tout his administrations accomplishments over the last year and then lay out his legislative agenda for this year. President trump spent the day at the white house preparing for his big speech. In his first state of the Union Address, hell say, this is our new american moment. There has never been a better time to start living the american dream. Hes showcasing his accomplishments, touting the tax overhaul and the strong economy. The country has been so divided on so many things. I want him to unite this country. We have Great Success going right now. Reporter the president will promote a 1. 7 trillion plan to rebuild aging infrastructure and an immigration compromise including 25 billion for a border wall with cuts to Legal Immigration and a path to citizenship for 1. 8 million undocumented immigrants known as dreamers. Hell say, i am extending an open hand to work with members of both parties, democrats and republicans, to protect our citizens of every background, color and creed. There is opposition on both sides of the aisle to the white house immigration proposal and about a dozen democrats will boycott the state of the union. I will not attend the state of the union because this president has not honored nor respected the office of the presidency. Reporter others will attend with dreamers and many lawmakers will be wearing black. To honor the power of women who are now coming out and giving voice against Sexual Harassment and sexual violence. Reporter at least 28 dreamers, those daca recipients, are expected to be in attendance tonight at the state of the union. There will be guests of various lawmakers and, of course, the obvious message there is the stressing for a need to fix daca, a need for the congress and president to come together to fix the daca program. Who is giving the democratic response following and what should we expect to hear there . Reporter that response, the official democratic response, will come from congressman joe kennedy, democrat from massachusetts, democrats hoping hes a rising star within the party. Hes expected to stress the need for an immigration fix while also highlighting the important parole that immigrants play in this country. Hell also talk about the need for policies to focus on working class families and hell also be critical of what the democrats describe as a divisive administration and a divisive president , but the reality is unless theres a major gaffe or major mistake made, the opposition response is hardly ever remembered, ken. Tonight is very much about the president and his message to the american people. Under an hour now, mola lenghi live on capitol hill tonight. Thank you. Chopper 5 was overhead yesterday as the woman came out of an East San Jose home with blood on her hands. Now were starting to piece together exactly what happened. Opened fire but their the armed woman was threatening suicide it turns out. When she pointed her weapon at police, they opened fire, but the bullet hit the shotgun she was holding in her hands. We were very fortunate in this case. The round actually literally struck the shot gun itself, injuring both of her hands as she was holding the shotgun and then ultimately that round ricocheted, hit her in the torso, but it did not cause any further damage. The woman suffered nonlife threatening injuries and was taken to the hospital for treatment. Three people are dead, two others hurt after a helicopter simply dropped out of the sky and into a california home. Side of this h it happened a few hours ago. You can see the chopper crash landed along the side of this house in newport beach, a couple yellow and white blades still intact implanted in the lawn. Police say nobody was in the home at the time, but they found three people dead in the wreckage. Two others were rushed to the hospital. 1 witness said that he saw the one witness said that he saw the helicopter drop like a rock. Its not clear what caused that crash. Coming up, you cant drink in it or bathe in it. A dangerous chemical seeps into water in a north bay neighborhood, the crisis that is baffling scientists. Closed captioning for this newscast is sponsored by living spaces. New at 5 00 another blow for some families recovering from the wine country wildfires, now theres a highly toxic chemical in their water. Kpix5 reporter emily turner is in Fountain Grove where to make matters worse, the city is stumped about the source. Emily . Reporter yeah. That source is yet unnamed and that big question mark, as you can imagine, has the folks who live in these neighborhoods, folks who survived the fires, very concerned. Sam harveys house is one of 13 lucky enough to survive the fire only for that luck to run out when he turns on the tap. He and a dozen of his surviving neighbors cant use their water thanks to their fire ravaged water system. Do not drink. Do not wash dishes. Dont shower. Dont do laundry. Dont do anything that has to heat the water. Reporter the threat is benzene, a cancer causing chemical that somehow found its way into an isolated area of Fountain Groves drinking water. Were engineers and scientists trying to solve the problems and we havent been able to solve this. Reporter they dont know the source, but they do know its a dangerous problem. The regulatory limit is one part per billion. Some tests have turned up with 900 times that amount. So until its fixed the water in those 13 homes is basically unuseable. Weve got 5gallon waters and were kind of ad libbing with that and then there are gyms for showering. Reporter santa rosa water isolated the area and tested outside of it to make sure no one else is affected, but some are still concerned and taking matters into their own hands while the city sorts out the issue. It is scary. It literally is to the point i dont want to shower at my house. I want to have bottled water brought in until i can have it tested. Were reaching out nationally to experts. Theres not a tremendous amount of experience. Were convinced were going to solve it, of course. Its just it may go on for a bit of an extended period. Reporter now worst case scenario, they dont find the source or its something that is significantly a huge undertaking when it comes to fixing the problem, if thats the case, santa rosa may have to rip out the system to the tune of 20 million and thats not a short encan ever either. They should know endeavor either. They should know whether or not theyll have to do that in the next six to eight weeks. Emily turner, kpix5. Reporter over the decade the statue has become a focal point in san jose culture wars. While some view columbus as a brave explorer, others see him as a ruthless school lodgizer. The colonizer. The statue has been attacked and pieced back together twice. I think we recognize that our understanding of history evolves as we learn more. Reporter columbus statue backers say they expected more support from liccardo. Im very disappointed in him really. Hes supposed to be our leader here in the Italian American community.
