The mother of a 5yearold girl told kpix 5s joe vazquez her daughter fell into a big gap. Reporter it happened at the downtown petaluma station 10 days ago. Melissas daughter fell in the gap between the train and the platform. It was terrifying. Reporter as the doors opened the little girl got off before her mother and instead of walking this way to safety, she walked along the yellow strip and fell into the gap. Somebody screamed that somebody fell under the train. Wins heard her scream, then its one of those things where you know your own children. Reporter a passenger hit the emergency brake which stopped the train from moving and a conductor jumped on the tracks. The conductor went under the train and pulled her out and handed her to me. Reporter what did you think . I think a little bit of peace but i had my daughter in my hands and i was never going to let go of her . Melissa is a pediatrician and her daughter was fine. The safety strip is a reminder for people not to straddle the train and to walk on this side of the platform. Katie thomas died two weeks ago. The 40yearold mother of three got the flu on january 2 and then died two days later. Today the city of oroville is expected to file a lawsuit against the department of Water Resources for damage caused by the oroville dam failure. In all, 7 adults and five juveniles were arrested in connection with at least 30 robberies and carjackings since last summer.
