They say that they gave no good, logical explanation as to why this was going on in their home and basically deputies are saying that both of these parents were acting as though everything going on inside was normal to them. Kpix 16yearold ryan joseph was hurt during a wrestling match last week. He is now according to doctors paralyzed from the neck down. Kpix5 reporter Juliette Goodrich is live outside College Park High school in Pleasant Hill with the latest on his condition. Juliette . Reporter ken, ryan is in the icu. His family says hes coherent. He even has a sense of humor. The Athletic Director here at the high school said the family is preparing for the long haul. On the schools web page it says everyones friend. Theyre talking about 16year old College Park High school sophomore ryan joseph. Ryan suffered a c4 spinal cord injury in a jv wrestling match last week. The high schools athletic coach jim keck spoke on behalf of the family today. This is the only time ive ever seen Something Like this happen. It was not an illegal move. It wasnt a move that was done with any type of malice. It wasnt something i think when most people in the stands saw it happen didnt think much of it. Reporter ryan competed in wrestling and lacrosse at the high school. He was wrestling in the 160 pound weight class when he suffered the spinal cord injury. Ryan, the son of former de la salle football and wrestling hall of famer tom joseph, is now at the trauma have at john muir in walnut creek. First thing that tom said when i saw him in the hospital on saturday when this was really, really fresh was ive got a son. His brain is in perfect working condition. Hes still joking with us and i think thats whats going to get him through. Reporter the wrestling team is designing these t shirts that read falcon family wrestling for ryan. This really does sting because he is very passionate about sports and all the athletic stuff and hes just very passionate towards other people and when people found out, very devastating to all his friends and teachers like its just really sad. Reporter now the students have been updated on how ryan is doing. The school has been updating them throughout the day. They even had counselors here today to help the students out as well. Ryans family says that he has really appreciated all the cards and messages that have come his way to the hospital. In Pleasant Hill, Juliette Goodrich, kpix5. Chp officers packed a courtroom today as man accused of killing a fellow officer made his first appearance before a judge. Mohammed ali was wheeled into court, his arms in casts. Hes charged with murder and driving under the influence. Authorities say ali of drunk and high behind the wheel. Nearly a dozen chp officers stood at the back of the courtroom as ali was arraigned. 33yearold officer Andrew Camilleri was killed in the crash on christmas eve. He was in his parked patrol car on the side of the nimitz freeway in hayward. His mother was also in court today. Our hearts are broken and our lives are shattered and we love andrew so much and we miss him and well never see him again. His legacy lives on. Ali did not submit a plea. His defense attorney said they are still gathering evidence. S taken to jai these cases are no win situations for both sides. Both of them were fathers. Both of them had kids and families that are bereft. Ali had been in the hospital since the crash but was taken to jail friday. He will appear in court again later on this month. A pittsburgh woman is accused of driving under the influence and then crashing into a chp motorcycle officer. That incident happened just after 6 00 last night on highway 4 near port chicago highway in concord. The driver, tammy walker, now facing felony charges and was taken to the hospital with minor injuries and is now held in the martinez county jail. Officer martin lenway was at the scene of another crash when walker slammed into the back of his motorcycle and the back of another truck. Officer lenway was rushed to the hospital with serious injuries. He is expected to survive. New video of a fire forcing dozens of people out of their rooms at a Senior Living facility in antioch. Firefighters say a commercial drier caught fire just after 1 00 at Country Place assisted living. The patients were taken outside in the parking lot. A total of 49 people were displaced and transferred to a temporary housing facility. No one was hurt and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
