But they said its going to change around 6 30 or 7 00 this morning. Thats because aaa estimates more than 6. 5 million will be flying this Holiday Weekend. About a million of those passengers will be flying in and out of San Francisco, oakland or san jose airport. Officials are expecting longer lines at checkin, tsa security checks and heavy traffic getting to the airport. People flying say its worth it. Trying to hit the amex line, have a couple of drinks, and wake up on the other side. Reporter another reason for the slower lines a lot of people flying this weekend arent regular travelers. So you have heard the advice before but it is especially true today. Leave yourself plenty of extra time. They are saying 6 30 to 7 00, they expect more people to come in, more lines to build up. Right now, the line at tsa is really about 5 minutes long but they said the precheck lines could get all the way out to the ticket counter within the next hour and a half to two hours. Michelle. Congress has bought a little more time to work on a federal spending bill avoiding a midnight deadline that would have forced the government to shut down. Before leaving dc for the holidays yesterday, lawmakers approved a stopgap measure to fund the government for four weeks. The bill serves as a shortterm extension to the Childrens HealthInsurance Program or chip and provides funding for veterans healthcare. It sets aside 4. 7 billion for Missile Defense in response to the north korea threat. Some lawmakers expressed concerns about the frenetic pace of recent developments on capitol hill. People are failing to get us back to regular order and to end this process of moving from crisis to crisis. The house passed a 81 billion Disaster Relief bill for puerto rico and states impacted by hurricanes and wildfires but delayed any decision on that measure until the new year. California senators Kamala Harris and Dianne Feinstein pushed to include protections for Illegal Immigrants enrolled in the daca program in the temporary spending bill. More than 220,000 new enrollees selected a plan through december 15th and thats ahead of last years pace by about 10 . As part of the tax bill Congress Just passed, Senate Majority leader Mitch Mcconnell told maine republican senator Susan Collins that he would get a vote on two obamacare market stabilization bills by the end of the year but thats not happening. No one believes that those two bills would make up for the detritus, for the destruction, that is caused by removing the mandate and theyre going to pay a price for that big time. They talk about, you know, again the increase in premiums for so Many Americans will far outweigh any tax decrease they get. The obamacare individual mandate thats still in place requires americans to buy Health Insurance or pay a fine. Thats going to be removed but still in effect for 2018. So people who dont have coverage for this upcoming period will still get fined. The long burning thomas fire in Santa Barbara and ventura counties is on track to become the largest in california. More than 1,000 structures have been destroyed so far. California governor jerry brown requested a major disaster declaration from the trump administration. This request would boost state and local officials with clean up and recovery efforts. Brown also issued a statement thanking all of those who have battled the blazes and reminding californians that the golden state will recover. A man is in custody in connection with two mail bombings including one that targeted an east bay Police Officer. One was delivered to the home of a Police Officer in alameda. His wife opened the package and it exploded and burned her. This is 56yearold ross laverty from oakland. Federal investigators say he was arrested in 2013 by the same officer he allegedly targeted. Investigators say that laverty mailed the bomb to get back at the officer. Dna found on a battery from the first bomb links laverty to the crimes. The first package was sent to a home in east palo alto. The man who opened that one was injured on the stomach and legs. Laverty is now facing federal charges of mailing an explosive device with the intent to injure or kill. Theres no word yet when he will face a judge. A random attack at a santa rosa restaurant where a man was stabbed in the neck. This is a surveillance image of the suspect inside lolas market. Police say the suspect never talked to the victim, attacked him and then walked out. The victim suffered life threatening injuries. The suspect is on the loose. Mourners got together in San Franciscos chinatown area last night to pay tribute to the late San Francisco mayor ed lee. They lit candles in memory of lee who died unexpectedly last week. Mourners signed a white sheet and shared stories about San Franciscos First Chinese american mayor. Many remembered how he began his Public Service career fighting for causes in the chinatown area. One member of San Franciscos board of supervisors says he will not run to replace lee as mayor. Mark farrell sent a letter to supporters saying now is not the time for him. They typically already are are already on by now. But traffic is light so well let you know when those metering lights go on. If have somewhere to be, perhaps leave now while its still looking okay out there. Thats a check of your traffic. Back to you. A bay area voters may soon be asked to decide on another toll hike. A proposed ballot measure would raise tolls on the 7 staterun bridges by up to three dollars. That would raise the toll to 9 on the bay bridge during the commute and 8 everywhere else. A poll commissioned by the mtc found most voters support the hike with 54 saying they would vote yes but opponents cry foul. Drivers in alameda, contra costa and solano counties cross bay area bridges the most but voters in all nine counties will get to weigh in. Santa clara county has the largest population in the bay area so the county will have a big say on the proposal. But an mtc study shows only 3 of the Santa Clara County voters are frequent tollpayers. Thats unfair. You dont use it, why vote for it . Thats not right. I dont think people in san jose should be voting if they dont use the bridge. They may not like it now but it will lead to less congestion and fix choke points on highways. The money would also include Public Transportation like bart, buses and the ferry system for improvements. A deadline for Health Coverage through the state Health Exchange is approaching. Dutoit is second highprofile conductor to be accused of Sexual Misconduct recently. Earlier this month, the metropolitan opera in new york city suspended Conductor James Levine while it investigates. Some people who live in hillsboro are celebrating a successful fight against plans to build cell phone towers. Cell phone coverage in town could be spotty because of the steep hills. That led to a proposal to install 16 new towers ranging in height from 35 to 54 feet. But some neighbors had concerns ranging from Health Hazards to ugliness. Yesterday, city manager cathy larue said a contractor for verizon never got an environmental review. So all 16 towers were denied. Verizon does have the option to appeal to the full city council. Most of the victims were at a public sauna on the second floor of the 8story building. Some survivors jumped from balconies to inflatable mats to escape. Its unclear how it started but people are angry over reports of shoddy construction, broken doors and other building problems. The Santa Clara ValleyWater District says that there are flaws on some spillways similar to the oroville dam. A new engineering study says that the spillways at anderson, calero and guadalupe reservoirs have flaws such as cracks similar to defects that led to the oroville spillway failing earlier this year forcing massive evacuations downstream in butte county. The Water District says that heavy rains would need to happen for the spillways to be at risk of failure. People living near anderson dam are afraid that there could be a repeat of the flooding problem from february. It could be fatal and damaging. A lot of families will be affected. Not just in morgan hill. All the way to san jose. The spillway at calero is more than 80 years old and doesnt meet current design standards. Replacements of all three spillways should be complete by 2025. San mateo police are warning people of some grinches who have targeted a popular shopping spot. Burglar have broken into multiple cars lately at Bridgepointe Shopping Center just off highway 92. Police have now beefed up patrols there and at other malls in san mateo. They are urging everyone to keep valuables out of their cars or at least out of sight. Thieves sometimes go after purses and backpacks even if they are empty. A concord teacher is charged with having sex with a developmentally disabled adult. 55yearold Daniel Gonzalez was a teacher at loma vista adult center. Now just within the last 20 minutes, you can see how many people have filled in. The line just to get through security is at 20 to 25 minutes.
