Mayor lee often told me be careful what you wish for because he wished for jobs when he became mayor. When he became mayor, the Unemployment Rate was nearly 10 , city budget had a five hundred Million Dollar shortfall and there was a state of emergency. So lee got to work getting San Francisco back to work. He pushed for a change to the citys tax system to make it more attractive to bio tech, twitter, and startup. He wanted companies to move into the blighted area. By october 2017, the Unemployment Rate was 2. 6 and the city budget was 10 billion. He had steered them out of one crisis but unintentionally into another, housing. Weve got to get the housing crisis under control. He cut red tape to help meet that goal. He focused on homelessness, and building navigation centers. Still even he acknowledged no San Francisco mayor has ever found a solution to homelessness. I dont think we have the answer yet because i dont think society as a whole knows what that answer is. Reporter issues of homelessness, housing, crime, and drug use will bedevil his successor as well, but theyll benefit from the housing he put in motion. He frequently talked about how happy he was to have increased the minimum wage to 15 an hour. And ever the sportsman, he was so proud to help get approval for the new warrior stadium. Gunfire erupted at the four seasons on Market Street just before 5 in the morning. Exclusive details on the suspect. Reporter brian, the good news tonight, no one was hurt but the people i spoke to who were staying at the hotel say this is the last thing i would expect to have happen there. The four seasons, about six to seven shots heard. Reporter multiple sources tell kpix5 news offduty Police Officer Phillip Sanchez is the person who fired multiple rounds inside the Four Seasons Hotel early sunday morning. Police would not comment or confirm that. San Francisco Police are not releasing many details about what happened either, but they told us at 6 30 a. M. , the gunman surrendered peacefully. We recovered a firearm from the incident and there was a shelter in place during the incident. He was on the force for eight years and was once described by the richmond confidential as a, quote, coolheaded cop. Some people said they were not told what happened. They came and they didnt say anything. I was a little surprised that nobody notified the guests at the hotel there was a situation like that. Hours after the shoot being and arrest, Police Officers were still scouring the hallways. This man was staying on the sixth floor, the same hallway the police were examining. Still weird, kind of scary. Reporter on the eighth floor, detectives were going from room to room and asking people questions like did you hear gunshots . This couple said police were looking for a woman. It was a detective and theyre asking people that are staying here questions. Definitely not what i expected. I thought it was housekeeping at first, and he had his badge and i was shocked. Reporter sanchez was taken to San Francisco General Hospital to assess his medical condition as a precaution. Sfpd is still trying to determine a motive. Richmond Police Released a statement saying the officer involved has been placed on leave pending this investigation. Jackie, how did the staff of the hotel react to the situation . Reporter the four seasons says the safety and security of the guests are the top priority and everyone is safe there tonight. Jackie, thank you. Tonight San Francisco police are investigating a crash between this prius and one of their own cruisers. The white car slammed into the Police Vehicle near at t park leaving the passengers side of the cruiser slightly caved in. So far no word on who was at fault. A fire tore through part of a cafe in san jose today and may not have been an accident. It broke out at the pandora cafe on north capitol avenue. The blaze went to two alarms. Firefighters needed more than an hour to knock it down. Other parts of the cafe have smoke damage. Police say an arson investigation is underway but so far firefighters arent releasing any details about how the fire might have started. Meanwhile the massive thomas fire burns through Santa Barbara county. Santa barbara itself is a ghost town. The fire now covers more than 420 square miles and is still just 40 contained. Thats despite the best efforts of thousands of firefighters, who have been on the front lines for nearly two weeks now. They set up a base camp near a big Santa Barbara county reservoir where they get a chance to rest and refuel as they rotate through 24hour shifts.
