Devastating. Reporter firefighters face under tense flames this morning as the massive thomas fire reached Santa Barbara county. Crews attacked the blaze from the air and the ground but were unable to save every home. After a week on the lines firefighters are tiring. Talking to the firefighters that have been out here day one, they said this is one of the most trying and taxing fires they have been on. Reporter with the fire bearing down, firefighters ordered hundreds of more residents from their homes this morning, many not know figure their properties will be standing when they return. This road divides from mandatory to voluntary. Reporter they live outside the mandatory evacuation area. A big fire. It is scary. Reporter this fire crew kept a close eye. Across southern california, wind fueled wildfires devowered nearly 800 homes and structures. More than 200,000 people have been evacuated but many are hoping to return home soon as firefighters are beginning to get the upper hand on the devastating wildfires. Still the fire here is only about 15 contained at this point and there are 15,000 structures standing in its way. I have a couple questions, i know the fires are attacking residents and students. Winds tonight between 30 and 45 Miles Per Hour in the Higher Elevations and it doesnt, any fires could spread quickly. There is a rapid fire growth threat. Tomorrow they will meet with the mediator and the negotiator for the union tells kpix 5 the strike could end right away. Negotiations continue. The city has been bargaining in bad faith and agreeing to a mediator does not undo that. If it does appear they want to compromise and reach an agreement with us we will consider ending the strike. We respect them so much. Oakland mayor says the citys most recent contract suffer a the best it can do. The unions are saying that is not true. The mediator does not have Legal Authority but all sides hope they could move talks to the point where the walk out can end. An attempt to make streets more bike friendly is having the opposite effect.
