A suspected arsonist is accused of setting fires in napa and is in custody. 59yearold debora ann winhold was arrested yesterday. She is suspected of lighting several fires near the north end of lake berryessa. She faces 11 counts of arson to forest land. Investigators say that she has not been linked to any of the devastating wine country wildfires in october. City workers in oakland set to strike for the third day in a row. The unions representing 3,000 nonemergency city workers are in day 2 of their strike. Already, trash is piling up in the streets and other City Services are getting ignored. This homeless encampment on sixth street is blocking a lane of traffic. They told people that live here that they had to be gone but the citys on strike so that would be those workers that would enforce it, i guess. Reporter the unions want a guaranteed 8 raise over two years. The city is offering a 4 raise over two years but at the end of the contract workers could get up to 2 more depending on revenue growth. Is the strike over . Reporter a closed city council negotiating session went nowhere so the strike will continue into a third day. I continue to be extremely disappointed that the unions have chosen to strike when we have not reached impasse. That is very unusual. It is an unfair labor practice. The little guy was found curled up on a building at 4th and folsom. In soma yesterday. The coyote was clearly lost. Ear if it wa in San Francisco coyote seems to have lost its way. The little guy was found near a building on folsom. Its unclear if it was hurt. Animal control say that the coyote got away. Police searching for two dogs who killed a chihuahua in San Francisco. Police believe the dogs are a risk to Public Safety and must be seized. Those dogs are believed to be pit bulls. One is about 70 pounds, brown and white and had a pink collar. The other is about 80 pounds, brown and had a gray collar. Police say those dogs attacked the chihuahua and its owner unprovoked on brunswick street in San Francisco. It happened on november 20th. The owner says the dogs pulled her across the pavement as she held on to her chihuahuas leash trying to protect him. San Francisco Police say the owner of the attacking dogs left them at the scene without expressing any remorse or providing any contact information. The abalone population is plunging along the california coast and as kpix 5s maria medina reports, the situation is so bad, the state may cancel the entire recreational season next year. It is sad and hard because we have to explain it to people. Reporter this past may brian took his kids and dozens of others abalone diving. But next year may be a different story. Not seeing as many as them now. Reporter he is a scuba instructor in santa cruz. Finding them that size is increasingly more difficult. Reporter he noticed the dying abalone thats caused the state department of fish and wildlife to decide whether to shut down the recreational season for 2018. Bigger ones that were seg dont have the meat that they use seeing dont have the meat that they used to have. They are just wasting away. We have seen dramatic decline in abalones because they are dying and essentially no sign of really any reproduction. Reporter fish and wildlife experts say a perfect storm is to blame partially because of el nino. What resulted was the decline in kelp, the primary food source for abalone. To top it off, the sea snails grow slowly. It takes at least a decade to get to Recreational Fishing size. Its going to keep dwindling and thats what were worried about, not necessarily right now or next year, but the next few years whats that going to look like . Then on the west side, down in santa rosa, temperatures in the 30s. So its all about the wind direction and whether or not its pushing that cold air out or not. An undercover ivory bust in San Francisco has three people facing charges. The owner of lavelles gallery in San Franciscos chinatown area was arrested on two counts of illegal ivory sales. Two workers of the gallery face charges. Two undercover operatives bought an ivory statue from the shop last december. Then after a recent inspection, Authorities Say that they found 32 more ivory statues for sale there. The two gallery workers are set to be arraigned today. For years, san jose has been the largest city in the nation without fluoride in its Drinking Water. As kpix 5s kiet do reports, that is about to change. Reporter it may not look like much now, but this 5acre dirt lot holds the key to healthy teeth for generations of families in east san jose. Its the future site of a water fluoridation Treatment Plant and when its done will pipe the water to 100,000 customers nearby. Its yellow and when added to Drinking Water in low concentrations, about. 7 parts per million, helps to strengthen tooth enamel and fight cavities especially in children. These fluoride tanks belong to the Santa Clara ValleyWater District which only supplies fluoridated water to some parts of san jose. Most of the million residents are customers of san jose water company. They dont get fluoride making san jose the last big city in the nation to finally do it. Its coming to your house. Yeah.
