Reporter usps investigators say sending a bomb in the mail is a serious federal offense. Two packages made it through their security in the last two months. On friday a male bomb was sent to a Police Officers home on Bay Farm Island in alameda, he was not home at the time. When the officers wife opened the package she thought it looked suspicious so she threw it. She suffered minor burns and ear damage from the blast. It was too big for a mailbox which is why it had to be hand delivered to. Investigators are working on reconstructing the package so they can look at the labels on the package. They will look through all of the pieces and parts, they will do dna analysis and fingerprinting analysis, they will look where the parts are made from reporter we have also learned the officer testified as part of a case against a gang. Investigators are looking into whether this could be a form of payback. The usps is saying the male bomb is being investigated by a number of Law Enforcement agencies. We are asking people to call 911 or call postal inspectors. Reporter investigators thing this bomb was created by the same person that mailed another bomb to another home on october 19. A father was injured when he opened it. The package was sent to his son but the to share a same name. The post office has cameras recording people that drop off packages. The ghost ship warehouse fire is trying to close a loophole and it could save lives. Reporter a two alarm fire in chinatown back in february burned down several storefronts and spread to the upper floors. The basement where the fire began had no sprinkler system. San francisco law requires all Residential Hotels to have automatic speaker systems in the residential parts of the building. The law has a loophole. The other non residential parts are not required to have sprinklers. Some of the fires that have decimated these types of buildings have started in the nonresidential areas. Reporter supervisor aaron has proposed legislation to close that loophole. Right now 300 buildings are affected, if those buildings are sold the proposed ordinance would require the new owner to install a sprinkler system, a sixfigure price tag. Sources tell us, this was the original schedule which shows only 11 deputies working that morning. Somebody ordered the schedule to be altered after the escape to make it appear there was a 13 deputies there. Take a close look at the original which says one deputy was scheduled for court room 88, here is the altered schedule that now shows three deputies. He says schedule changes happen on a daily basis for a number of reasons, that day was because of a murder race case. [ indiscernible ] reporter still those two deputies were on the way to the courthouse at the time of the escape, which means only 11 deputies were there, not 13 that the sheriff told the media. The court was sufficiently staffed during the incident, there was definitely more delays than there was 10 years ago. Reporter he has worked inside the county courthouse for years, he says there are signs of staffing issues. You can hear over the radio that it appears they are scrambling to get enough security to bring the defendant up to the courthouse. There is a cascading effect. Reporter he does admit it takes longer to get inmates up the courthouse stairs because there is not a elevator. He did say the courthouse is sufficiently staffed. I believe the court is still very happy with the level of service we provided. Reporter it is also important to know the public defender we spoke to is one of the escapees attorneys. He says the deputies do a fine job but it is staffing issues that causes the delays. Sources tell me the court has not received any complaints. Kpix 5.
