Who fought the wildfires. But they are also putting their focus on the fire survivors as well. They have Government Agencies and neighbors all pitching in, to try to help fire survivors get through the holidays. It has been hard for the vitale family to smile after losing their santa rosa house. But seeing the kids faces light up, it is a relief for dad, rich. All of the kids are excited about the animals. It is helpful. It is nice. It is a great surprise. His name is chili and he is fully grown. The family came to the santa rosa fema office to file a claim. We havent thought too much about christmas. The kids lost all of their little treasures. Fema partnered up with animal trainers to make it easier for the kids when their parents come in to help. After a wildfire, it can be devastating for individuals and families and especially children. Oh, my goodness. The trainers brought in the parents, a desert fox, and a camel and a bush baby. Bush babies are primarily in eastern africa. And they start to smile a lot. Sometimes it is infectious. And you share it with one another. And it boosts up the spirits of everybody. Thank you. Neighbors are also pitching in. Dozens of people throughout the town have what they call the garage nonsale. Folks put out furniture, clothes, toy, and food, so fire victims could pick up item force free. We are going to sign a lease on a place to live today. It is great timing for this couple. They came to look for essential items to furnish their new apartment. We have nothing. And it is just it is heart warming. The support the community has shown us has been overwhelming. Almost as overwhelming as the loss. Aside from getting the items that they will need to rebuild their home, there is also the part of healing their mental health. I mean there is a lot of mental trauma that folks are going through and thats why fema is providing a crisis counseling hot line. Hopefully you see it on the screen, the 1800 number. They are asking, encouraging folks who are dealing with stress, or just needing to talk to someone, to call that number. It is manned 24 7. So folks who need help can call that number. Also, i want to end this report with the lighting of the trees here in the downtown area. They will light the trees around 5 45. Reporting live in downtown sonoma, kpix 5. Beautiful sonoma plaza. Cal fire crews in Sonoma County racing to get the scorched hillsides ready for rainy weather. They installed culverts today to help drain water to prevent flooding if we do get heavy rains. Officials say flood risks still remain significantly higher in burned areas until the ground cover sprouts again. And that could take up to five years. Well, new at 5 00, we are just getting word of a homicide in the east bay. The almeda county Sheriffs Office says one person was shot and killed on east 14th street, at 159th avenue. And thats right behind the bayfair mall. We are told the shooting happened during an attempt to sell a used cell phone. And right now, the suspect is still at large. Right now, Berkeley Police are looking for a group of thieves behind a string of crimes. Police say robbers targeted five pedestrians in just the past week. All of the crimes happened at night. And all of them happened near the cal campus. If you know anything, you are asked to call police. Well, Petaluma Police arrested a 15yearold boy today, he is suspected of stealing more than a thousand dollars worth of alcohol, cigarettes and lottery tickets from a convenience store. The burglary happening at the fast and easy mart on petaluma boulevard, north around 4 00 this morning. Police say the teen likely made several trips in and out of the store. Now, unlike most burglaries, the suspect did not make a run for it. Officers found him in a parking lot. San jose is stepping up relief efforts for hurricane ravaged puerto rico. Donationtrive, happening this weekend a donation drive is happening this weekend at a dozen fire stations and some of the most important items needed is baby food and diapers and flashlights and water filters. Community leaders including the police chief and the fire chief, are supporting the two day event. Anything that we can do in san jose, and anything we can do throughout the united states, and the world, would be a benefit to the people of puerto rico. The donation drive will continue all day tomorrow. From 9 00 to 4 00. Roy moore, the Senate Candidate accused of Sexual Misconduct in alabama, is facing added pressure to drop out. Cbs reporter Laura Podesta says some religious leaders in the state are speaking out against him. Several Church Leaders in birmingham, alabama, called on roy moore to step aside from the senate race. On saturday, they urged his supporters, including those basing their vote on faith, to reconsider. This is not christianity. Rather, it is an extreme republican religionism. The the gathering at the Tabernacle Baptist Church came as others pledged their support of the judge. Moore is accused of making sexual advances to teenaged girls when he was a Deputy District Attorney in his 30s. One of the accusers pointed to this note she said moore wrote in her 1977 evidence as evidence. Moores attorney argues it is formed. Good morning, alabama, day four of Gloria Allreds refusal to turn over the fake yearbook for third party examination. Alabama governor kay ivy told reporters she will vote for moore even though she is troubled by the allegations. Other republicans are voicing concerns for the party. Mr. Trumps outrage in this case is bringing fresh attention to allegations about his own behavior. Last year, more than a dozen women came forward to accuse him of misconduct. The Trump Campaign denied everything. His former opponent, Hillary Clinton, spoke in a radio interview yesterday. Kpix 5 devon feely says neighbors tried to help but turn the back by smoke and flames. Turned back by smoke and flames. I have it all showing from the second floor balcony. Firefighters were not just fighting the flames. Someone is trapped. It is an apartment building. They were in a race against the clock. Rushing to rescue the people trapped inside the burning building. Just calling, fire, fire, fire. Next door neighbor joe, banged on neighbors doors to warn them about the fire. And could only watch helplessly, as the flames and choking smoke trapped the family in the upstairs apartment where the blaze began. We had seen the dad asking for help in the window, his hand was going like this. It was really terrifying. Firefighters would eventually remove four people from the apartment. Two are in Critical Condition. And two others simply didnt make it. I am really broken up right now. There is just no words how i feel right now. Inside the burnt blackened apartment, there was little the flames left untouched. Arson investigators are trying to figure out the how and why of a tragedy. Well, this weekend, leaders of the California Democratic party are meeting in San Francisco, and they have strong words against Sexual Harassment. But some say the partys actions dont exactly match. Kpix 5 reporter melissa kane is at the hotel near sfo where those talks are going on. Reporter yes, we are here where the California Democratic Party Executive board is meeting. And i want to set the stage for you a bit. Back in 2009, assemblyman, a staffer at the State Capitol and a female staffer says at an event he followed her around and grabbed her breasts. She reported it. There was an investigation and he was found to have acted unprofessionally. And he was ordered, among other things, to stay away from her. Well, that recently came out. And so the question for the Democratic Party leaders is, should he, who is now a member of Democratic Party leadership, keep his title . We believe in due process in this country. But this isnt due process. This is a back room protection program. Where elected officials who have no self control strong words today from candidates for office, candidates like delane eastman, and antonio villagarosa. We cant have him in a lion leadership role with that cloud hanging over him. The Party Chairman eric bowman would not give his opinion. But he did manage to point out how long ago the harassment happened. That is really a decision that the speaker has to make. My comment about what i believe he needs to do is look into his own heart, figure out whether he believes he can be effective or not, and make a decision, perhaps talking with the speaker. And remember, that incident happened eight years before he was in the legislature, three years before he was in the legislature. And do you think that is enough think very deeply and how he can serve his constituents best. The president pro tem kevin deleon deferred to the speaker of the assembly. That part, i have no jurisdiction over that subject. He is on the assembly side. Not on the senate side. But deleon did take action against a senator, tony mendosa, whose three former aides have accused him of inappropriate sexual behavior. I made a decision to remove him from his chairmanship as well as other boards. At least for now. It is going to be an independent investigation that will be conducted with regards to the allegations that have been made toward this person. So we will let that work itself out. Now, Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon is reported to be looking into whether or not he will denote brokenegra,. But so far the speaker has not been talking about that process. Community members gathered at childrens ferryland today for the official launch of brilliant baby that establishes a 500 College Savings account for 500 babies born into poverty. One primary goal is to triple the amount of College Graduates from oakland Public Schools in the next decade. This is our way as a community of saying we support all of our families. We believe that every child in this city is brilliant, and deserves every opportunity. The initiative will also offer low income parents financial coaching and Child Development support.
