The Fire Department says incident commanders in the field would decide on what kinds of alerts to send out. Whether its shelter in place, or evacuation orders. If we cant reach you, then we cant alert you. Reporter we heard today about how the fires knocked out most cell service, and land lines. Thats when the Sheriff Service began. Reporter i asked what would happen in oakland, since most people dont have satellite phones or ham radios. It definitely impairs our ability to communicate. Three teenagers killed in a crash on skyline boulevard halloween night were laid to rest today. The families of matthew cruz, and Ricky Gonzalez held funerals together. All menlo park Fire District personnel attended those services while surrounding agencies covered for them. Ricky and andrew were explorers with the Fire District. Matthew worked with the san mateo sheriff activities league. The young men died when their car skidded off a road and down a ravine on skyline boulevard. The wreckage was found the next morning. The chp is still investigating the cause. New at 5 00, Campbell Police say this group of teenagers wasnt just taking a neighborhood stroll. They were actually committing a string of burglaries. East bay mud is testing the water at schools in oakland. The concern . Lead. Theyre focusing on high traffic areas like faucets and water fountains. Its a process the Oakland Unified School district started in august. They found lead in ten of the nearly 70 schools tested so far, but it wasnt in the pipes. Its in the faucet. Its in the fountain head. Its no the soldering that actually is used to seal up the pipes that lead to those sources. Its not actually in the pipes. Thats a really important distinction. Members learned dhs investigators found more than 70 of the time, undercover officers were able to get through tsa checkpoints with mock knives, guns, and explosives. Both members of congress and the tsa support replacing checkpoint scanners with new ct scanners. Tsa administrator told congress the Ct Technology is the most effective way to keep passengers safe, but the cost is a major hurdle. It requires funding above what tsa currently has.
