He said an hour after they went up he was confronted by cal student body senators leaving a campus meeting. Cell phone video he took shows what happened next. They quickly came into the plaza and proceeded to film us, call us derogatory terms, fascists, white supremacists, et cetera, and then proceeded to tear down the flyers that we had just posted. Reporter you got a reaction. You were ready to film it. Was this just to stir up some trouble . Not at all. I would say that, you know, obviously, its more effective to use language that is provocative. Thats sort of the point that were trying to make even if you dont agree with whats being said, it still has a right to be said. Reporter theres culture of silencing conservative voices on campus. Lawyers for the berkeley patriot which is organizing free speech week are demanding an investigation by the department of justice. In a complaint, they wrote reporter the university insists it plans to protect all students during free speech week. Too much is at stake in terms of the security of our community. Reporter to the tune of 1 million in security costs. The office of the president has offered to help pay for it. Aaron says no amount of tearing down posters will stop them. Well be fliering all week in preparation for the event. We reached out to members of Student Government at cal who said, quote, the posters were not torn down because of the political message. They didnt comply with university policy. They added, quote, the individuals involved in the incident were acting in our individual capacities and cannot be interpreted to represent the asuc as a whole. As maria medina explains, they discussed a report criticizing the School District for its handling of a Sexual Assault case. I find this report sobering and saddening. Reporter the 68page report illustrates a timeline of repeated missteps by Palo Alto High School and district administrators which the board fully admitted. Clearly there are systemic problems that are happening. Reporter an outside law firm looked at how School Leaders handled the complaints by a freshman girl who reported being sexually assaulted by a male classmate in the bathroom who was allowed to remain at the school. The report says, the initial steps in the imposition of disciplinary sanction against a respondent were insufficient to meet the districts obligations under title ix, state law and board policy. So my question is, why is it that every time theres a problem, a hiccup, mistake, a misstep, theres a witch hunt . Reporter instead of mainly addressing the report during public comment, one by one i cant say enough about reporter they came to the podium to speak in support of the principal who has been criticized for not doing enough in the case. She is a model of leadership, restraint, class and courage. I support the principal and the administration and the good work they do. Reporter most of them palley staff. Very few parents spoke up. Parents do come [ indiscernible ] reporter a group of current palley parents who didnt want to go on camera say they decided at the last minute not to speak because of fear. Their children will have these teachers and there is fear of retaliation.
